My Favorite Characters

Subject to change with my mood swings.

List items

  • Whatever you call him, he's simply the greatest, Bruce Wayne is the center of the DC Universe, and while I like a lot of Marvel's properties, Bat-Man es Numero Uno.

  • I always loved Cap, but I he was more of a role-model and action figure than a character I liked to read, until years later I stumbled upon Brubaker's run shortly after the Civil War and rekindled a comic book passion.

  • Neil Gaiman's Sandman series floored me, and made me a devotee of Prince Morpheus.

  • He's much more multi-faceted than people give him credit for, and ten times as compelling to read, when in the hands of a good writer. His tremendous power makes for some pretty cool fights/ feats.

  • While I have to say that the X-men were my first comic passion as a tot, Spidey followed quickly after and has always been a fixture in my life like an old friend. It's a shame Marvel has trashed him thoroughly in recent memory.

  • From a very early age I loved his arrogance. I loved how he occupied a moral gray zone that as a kid I couldn't label him as good or bad (which simultaneously annoyed me). Most of all I loved his diction in the 60's cartoon.

  • because he's the freakin master of magnetism, that's why

  • Dr. Doom to me is THE villain. I measure all bad guys by Doom standards. Cool origin, awesome weaponry and gadgets, a whole country to command, and a sickly ingenious brain to boot.

  • The dog of war! I love the New Gods with a freakin' passion, and to see them discarded when they are Jack Kirby's gift to DC's proverbial toy box is a shame. If you can find Kirby New Gods back issues, don't hesitate to fork over some cash for the classics.

  • Did Anthrax write a song about your favorite superhero? Didn't think so.

  • I really could have cared less about Elektra until Bill and Frank wrote the greatest mini-series (next to Watchmen) to ever grace paper.

  • One of the earliest villains I can recall enjoying. Juggernaut is a sentimental pick and it's a shame he rarely gets the treatment he deserves.

  • BEST VILLAIN EVER. Bar none. The Joker is the most amazing baddie in comicdom.

  • A contender for most powerful Marvel villain and introduced to me in Secret Wars.

  • APOCALYPSE!!! While people talked about Galactus, I always chuckled and daydreamed about this heavy hitting mofo. In the animated series he once said, "I know more about this world than you will ever know, that is why I must destroy it." I never forgot that line.

  • The first few issues of his 1968 book, are breathtaking and remain some of my favorite pieces of literature ever. SS is pathos and power married together elegantly.

  • my user name. Giant Size X-men #1 is probably the most important comic in my personal comic reading history, so Krakoa is a natural pick.

  • When I discovered Wolverine he was getting the treatment Deadpool is now, so I liked him but didn't love him. Now that he's not AS much in the limelight he's really grown on me.

  • Matt Fraction did for him what Brubaker did with Cap.

  • I must have a thing for vulnerability, because X-23 takes the cake. She's a broken sad soul, who has the power to cut you into thin strips.

  • I had the foil first issue of his series from the 90's and it came with an ash can that depicted War Machine massacring almost every Marvel villain known to man. I was hooked Rhodey's exploits from that point on. Those who missed his 12 issue series missed out on a lot.

  • Love and Rockets for the win.

  • Cyclops, if I were a comic character this would be my father figure. Yes, he's stuck up. Yes he's stern, but I can't help but find something endearing about this dude.

  • Conan just appeals to all the basest levels of fantasy. Big burly sword wielding ladies' man.

  • A combination of all the classic monsters and at the same time, a lasting product of atomic paranoia, the Hulk is very cool.

  • Few characters in the Marvel Universe have as much diversity in their history as DD. From the yellow costume days fighting against Electro, etc. to Frank Miller's run and introduction of Elektra, to the more modern issues, DD has never hit a sour note.

  • Seeing this guy stand up to a tractor in his first appearance and smash through just about everything else in subsequent ones, made me a fan.

  • I was a skeptic. Then I became a believer.

  • Where are thou, oh Sunfire? It's a shame that marvel has guys like these collecting dust.

  • Angel was a smug, but likeable costumed hero who became a badass and even more likeable costumed hero.

  • Simultaneously the X-man, you want to smack and cheer on to victory.

  • An incredibly cool villain. The guy spends a large chunk of his history searching for something called the Anti-Life Equation. You don't fuck with Darkseid.
