Started very intriguing only to end with cliche 0

I did not really care for the looks, but the beginning was very engaging. The mystery of the centre was promising, but only until its final reveal. The film was to busy juggling origin stories and setups only to suddenly shift to final battle mode.Rating:Animation: 6/10Character design: 8/10Narrative: 6/10Overall: still just a 6/10 ...

Puts the pussy in the Pussycat... a little oversexed but amazing! 0

This short makes amazing use of its limited running time of about 15 minutes. The story is well structured as a sort of epilogue to Batman Year One.One thing of note... the amazing animation is used to portray some "slutty" elements, not that I mind, but I'd rather not watch this with my mother.Rating:Animation: 9/10Character Design: 9/10Narrative: 8/10Overall: 8/10...

Does not work as part of Nolan-verse, but is amazing as STAND ALONE 0

Even though, this is not part of any continuity (it definetly does not fit well with the Nolan-verse), these stories are kinda suposed to show the early career of Nolans Batman and we do not have many of those in animated form. The quality of the stories, the animation and the narrative are mixed, but still still on the very positive side of the spectrum. If you look for something straight foreward and classic, then do not let your expectations overshadow this massive collection of awesome!1. This Wonder Woman has not aged well 0

Well... this definetly is NOT the Jenkins movie. There is some true cringe in it with the playfull nude amazons in the lake, or some of Steve's coments. It is not offensive, but 10 years later it does stick out, especially when the dialogue is about how men are all bad, but then we get a tit shot while she is getting dressed.I never have anything against "fan service" (for example I do not mind the Catwoman strip from the SHOWCASE strip) but the message of Wonder Woman kinda is way out of sync w...

May sit proudly on the shelf next to BATMAN BEGINS 0

While cinematiccally not as amazing as BATMAN BEGINS, this is still an incredible adaptation directed mostly at teens and (young) adults. The atmosphere is very dark, the characters are ruthless and the fights are bloody.Beautifully animated - no really, this thing looks amazing. One thing I did not really like, was Batmans voice, other than that, this can sit proudly next to BATMAN BEGINS.Running time of 60 minutes never lets it outstay its welcome.Rating:Animation: 9/10Character Design: 10/10Nar...

The Dark Lord through the eyes of a veteran Clone trooper 0

When I heard the premise of this story I instantly thought that this is a great idea and the book did ot disappoint. This is one of the best Vader stories I have read to day.The story shows us the growing legend of Vader through the eyes of a clone, disenchanted with the Jedi. In order to please his lord, he excells at his duties in the ranks of Stormtroopers, but once he arrives at Vaders side, the legend will have to be confronted with the harsh reality. This is equally a book about a clone as...

Visual gore mixed with a deeper meaning 0

This is a quite simple tale of two fractions having to kill one another. It is not their vicious nature, it is not what they want to do, it is what life forced them to.The story is told really great, almost like Garth Ennis used to write the Punisher. Visually you get a total gore fest, but the words that accompany the blood and guts tell a story of longing for peace and life. What is striking, is the fact that neither the Romans (everyone’s favorite bad guy) nor the Darkness are pictured ...

A retelling of a classic - but is it classic also in it's comic form? 0

I won't start a 100 words essay on how important and classic the Timothy Zahn books are, upon which this is based on.Although this is by far not the birth of the Expanded Universe, now know as LEGENDS, it is its revival, it sparked tons of new life to a franchise, that lay dormant for a while and it gave the hungry fans something substantial. Now onto the comic adaptation. The Story:I judge not how awesome this story is (because it is very much), but how well it was translated from the books, an...

Steady improving in quality 0

I was less than impressed with the first 3 or even four episodes, but the trip to Russia changed all and the show grew on me to the point where I am now totally hyped to see how it will end. I still think the humor is kinda by the number and it can not measure up to the humor or the heart of the movies but it is good enough (and way more seldom) to not be a critique point anymore. There are also way less visual effect on display, so it all looks much more believable. Also the mistreatment of Pegg...

Overhyped mediocrocity but still watchable 0

Although a proper episode with moderately high production values, watching this directly after "The First Avenger", one cannot help but notice, that the heart and whit of the movie are seriously lacking. While the plot and acting is above average, visually this show has the same problem as Arrow... it is television... and not the Netflix or HBO kind of quality... and it is visible right from the start...The jokes are all well known, the action is just proper, the script hits the notes that need ...

Dandelion apocalypse 0

Great writing and even greater characterization leads to a highly enjoyable book. Matt Hawkins as always excels at presenting scientific themes to the amateur comic reader while Linda's art is amazing. Her characters facial expressions go toe to toe with her husband’s.Although Matt's story moves through well known paces, it still manages to be fresh with characters both believable and likable. We see how mundane people try to manage this extraordinary situation (dealing with guilt or simpl...

Holds level almost until the end... then falls apart... 0

The biggest selling point in Matt Hawkins and Linda Sejic's Wildfire was for me how real to life all this was. A simple situation evolved into a cataclysmic event, where people with everyday life's like you and me, had to somehow survive. People that where believable and likable. All this was almost constant throughout all four issues. But then came the solution, which seemed kinda cliche but still worked, because it was setup quit early in the first issue, but where it all felt apart to me, was h...

Science gone mad 0

Although Matt's story moves through well known paces, it still manages to be fresh with characters both believable and likable. We see how mundane people try to manage this extraordinary situation, while at the same time dealing with their private life's. This must be a challenge not only to the characters themselves, but to the author who manages to fit all this in just a few pages. Linda's art is amazing, her facial expressions go toe to toe with her husbands. All this sums to a must read!...

Hawkins & Sejic (either one of them) is a great team up! 0

Great writing and even greater characterization leads to a highly enjoyable first chapter in this book. Matt Hawkins as always excels at presenting scientific themes to the amateur comic reader while Linda Sejic is as competent as her husband at recreating emotions and unique characters. Highly recommended!...

Prequel or beginning? 0

I really like Matt Hawkins and Top Cow in general, and so I am not surprised I liked Postal, but was it enough to put it on the pull list or should I consider TradePaperBack'ing it?The story and setting seemed interesting, the art was alright with nice and moody colours but the story presented seemed like something that happend before the real deal... and that is my problem... the real deal happend in the last panel, it was like the scene that happened before the hook, which would pull it on THE...

Inferior art and pure setup are not enough! 0

After such a long wait I feel this one to be a disappointment. The story itself is mostly the accelerated ending to Hine's Darkness run, which is acceptable, but it does not really get anywhere in this issue. The only interesting thing was, how Sara over-boiled with anger, maybe this is enough when we have both issues, but for now, this was a quick 10 minute read.In my opinion the art was a major down side. I mean, every other essential artist to Witchblade and Darkness would have done a much bett...

Epic and grand! 0

I absoluty love this series! In the past there were a lot of great comics I read, but this one stands high above many other titles (I've read). The story is mighty intriguing, the art is striking and the tissue connecting this back to the other titles of the reborn Top Cow Universe is amazing.A must buy and a hype multiplier for the IX Generation!...

Still a strong 2nd Year 0

In short:Batmans second year of crime fighting continues, and his adversaries get even more exotic. Although Huga Stranges experiments have been halted, now a new threat arrives, a psychopath who believes him self to be a vampire...What worked:I was not expecting much of the first book of Dark Moon Rising, and this was supposed to be worse. But it is the perfect sequel to its predecessor. It shows how Batman tries to focus on his war on crime, but is constantly side tracked by either his suspicio...

Ancient Epic Conclusion 0

OverviewAfter the many introductions of the previous book (The Epic Hyperspace War of Exar Kun, Onderons Beast Wars with Ulic and the Origin of Nomi Sunrider) we finally get to the meat of the Tales of the Jedi Knights. All chess pieces are in place with a few new ones just around the corner (the first appearance of the Mandalorians). The start is fairly slow littered with minor conflicts which soon will engulf the whole Republic in a full scale war. All mayor characters are back, and the way the...

Kinda a Year One tale... but not really. 0

In short:This is the first year of Batman's crime fighting career, but it is not an origin story... it tries to tell about Bruce Wayne's struggle to take over/maintain his company while dealing with a crazy ex-employee of his...What worked:The art was great, I loved the way Batman was drawn. The story had an interesting premise... kinda like Batman Begins... but in the end it did not deliver...What did not work:This book, while entertaining, is hard to like... it takes place during Batman's firs...

A strong 2nd Year 0

In short:After Batman: Year One Bruce Wayne continues his war on the Gotham City Mob, led by Carmine Falcone. In the mean time one Hugo Strange strives to psychical perfection by both: exercise and Genetic manipulation. Things escalate when Strange and the mob clash. What worked:I was not expecting much of this book, the reviews are pretty mixed on Dark Moon Rising, but it is the perfect second act to Batmans career. Batman: Year One is referenced quite a lot, we get to witness (somewhat) the cre...

Catwoman Begins 0

Trying to read the Batman Family comics in proper chronological order, I have hunted this one down... it was not easy! What worked:The art style was an appropriate mimic of the art in Batman: Year One... it even goes as far as to recreate whole pages (with little differences)... some may think of it as blasphemy, but to me this book would not have worked without them. What kind’a worked:The story was not really THAT great… but the portrait of Selina Kyle’s psyche was interesting and seemed m...

Batman Begins 0

I read this book after having seen Batman Begins milion Times, even after watching it’s animated adaptation… and I still loved it. I mean… havin seen the Nolan Origin story and the animated one… well, this book has not much to add, still it reads great. It is basically the same story overall you get to see in Begins, with a few differences, but it is great to see where the roots of the Nolan-verse lie...The artwork might seem dated (because it is) but it really is still great. Although you ...

Old but highly recommended 0

OverviewThis is Star Wars in its best (comic-) form. It is as epic as the movies, but without Jar Jar or the Ewoks… it is tragic, touching and at the very end… it is very sad.But let us start at the beginning… or even before that. The first ca. 12 issues tell the story and machinations of the Sith Lords of Korriban and their downfall… although these story are considered to be lesser to the rest of the Tales of the Jedi, they still are amazing. It is fascinating to see the Sith empire in it’s glor...
