I've always enjoyed reading DC's Elseworlds stories (much more than most of Marvel's What If?) so I consider this another Elseworlds story, for now. Unfortunately, while I'm reading an Elseworlds, the "regular" DC universe is still going along strong. I don't love the new DCU, but I don't hate it either. So I can go either way - - if they decide to go back to the way things were after a couple of years, fine. If not, then I can live with what's currently going on.

Well, the Chinese don't go for Chinese villains in an American movie. They did ban the Dark Knight in China theaters after all due to Batman going to Hong Kong to get that Chinese guy and bring him back to the states. Oops - - painting China/Chinese in a bad light? A big no-no! I was surprised they allowed The Mummy 3 to be shown here with Jet Li as the villain.

So, yeah, if the Mandarin is a non-Chinese character, then it might be received better. BTW, all these big powerhouse superhero movies (except, well, that one Batman movie) are HUGE hits over here - - Iron Man especially as he is sort of a Manga-ish kind of character with his ever-changing arsenal of armor. Captain America didn't go over especially well here. Wonder why? :)

In response to the other recent thread in comparing similarities between Marvel and DC characters, I thought an interesting counterpoint would be to come up with lists of characters or groups that seem more unique to each of the big two. I can think of a couple of teams right off the top of my head: Marvel's Alpha Flight and DC's Metal Men. Granted, there are some members of Alpha Flight that may have a counterpart in the DC universe, but the actual team dynamic, I can't think of any right now. What about Wolverine? Hulk (the original green guy)? Martian Manhunter? Surely there must be several more (and of course, feel free to negate anyone who I or someone else deems as "unique"!).

More:

Black Lightning/Storm

Martian Manhunter/???

Teen Titans/Original X-Men (now maybe Young Avengers, if they're even a group any longer)

J. Jonah Jameson/Perry White (and of course, Daily Bugle/Daily Planet)

Doom Patrol/Original X-Men

Niles Caulder/Professor X

Vixen/Tigra

Catwoman/Black Cat

Citizen Steel/Colossus

Geez . . . we should create a book for this! :)

I would agree with LoSH/Imperial Guard as the Guard were purposely created as a copy of LoSH (much like the Squadron Supreme was mimicking the JLA). However, I have to throw in another comparison: Guardians of the Galaxy/LoSH. I know the numbers aren't the same but the original idea was - - a group of superheroes in the future with a strong memory/tie of the group that inspired them. The JLA and Superman inspired the LoSH and the Avengers and Captain America inspired the Guardians of the Galaxy. Heck, Vance Astro even carries around Cap's shield! Also, Dr. Polaris/Magneto; Black Panther/Black Lightning (not because their powers are the same, rather their names and of course ethnicity). Hmmm . . . Silver Surfer/Rocket Racer(?) - - the guy on skis who is kind of like Death. Do I have that right? Phoenix Force/Crisis on Infinite Earth's red skies and anti-matter; Superboy-Prime/??? That one stumps me.

Not all Doctors in comics are evil. There's Dr. Strange of course and (the good, female) Dr. Light. Many heroes have a PhD or two such as Reed Richard or Mister Terrific.

I liked the movie quite a bit. It was fun and interesting and the time just flew by. Yes, it was a retelling of the story from the comics when Grant Morrison was doing JLA (did he get any credit for this "borrowed" tale?) but had enough differences that it still felt somewhat original. I missed Aquaman but I guess they included Cyborg for some obvious computer and tech-related points. I give it a thumbs up.

Supes should probably be Henry Cavill, assuming his movie will be better than the last one, but Batman can be almost any strong-looking, gruff-voiced actor as we probably wouldn't see much of Bruce Wayne in a Justice League movie with a lot of characters running (or flying) around. I don't mind Christian Bale at all, but just saying it really doesn't have to be him. I like the Chris Pine idea for Flash/Barry Allen and have NO IDEA who I'd cast for Wonder Woman. Whomever she is she has to have strong arms and can pull off wearing the WW costume well. Martian Manhunter would probably be CGI (like The Hulk in the Avengers) and may only occasionally be featured in a human form, so not too worried about who would play him; the voice actor would be more crucial. I liked Justin Hartley as Green Arrow in Smallville but could totally get behind him as Aquaman. He has a good physique for it. I think they should stick with the "Big Seven" in the first movie and leave it at that. Maybe introduce an Atom or a Black Canary in a sequel. And, contrary to what most say, I actually liked Ryan Reynolds and the Green Lantern movie so I would like to see him play this character again. Probably not going to happen after all the bad press, but it's my opinion and I'm sticking with it . . . . so there.

I have to wonder about zombie's rotting flesh. Eventually, that rotten flesh-meat is going to simply fall off the bones. Would werewolves even eat rotting pestilence-filled flesh? It may not kill them, but it could sure make them sick (and weak?). Eat one bad zombie and get sick and incapacitated and the rest of the horde can pile on. Just a thought.
