Ecological terrorism at its best

Swampy's back !!!! Hmmm, looks like EVERY one better rush out and buy CFLs and electric cars. Don't get me wrong, I believe in protecting the environment but this reeks a bit too much of wacko greenery to me. What's next? Kill off all the farm animals because they produce too much methane and make people turn into vegens? Oh, wait, I forgot. The Everglades naturally produces far more methane than farm animals. Umm... I know, let's stop the burning of fossil fuels because it releases carbon dioxide. Oh, wait a minute Alex, uh, plants actually require carbon dioxide which all animals breathe out AND forest fires AND volcanic eruptions produce (far more than our cars). I know, hey Swampy, go after oil rigs! Wait a tick. Oil naturally seeps out from the ocean floor, far more than all the oil spills combined. Well drat! How about controlling water vapor, the number one global warming gas? Huh? Oh, yeah. Plants give off water vapor in the process called transpiration. Melting polar ice caps? Umm, oh, they do that every year and freeze back up plus there's more ice in the south pole than there was last year. Global warming due to human activities. Kill the humans! Oh, yeah, climate change did happen long before people were here. Well... what do you think happened to the dinosaurs? They were burning too much fossil fuels and had to be killed! Um, right, they are the fossils in fossil fuels.

Holy Give Me a Salad ! Can Swamp Thing be powerful enough to protect the planet from... itself?

Well, just to be safe, I'll get my CFLs, turn the A/C up to 78, make sure my tires are properly filled, turn off all unnecessary lights, grow plants , not eat meat and move to Mogo!

MOGO WHAT !!!! Well that just sucks!

Protect, Serve and Kill?

Just watched this. I would recommend it to all Green Lantern fans. Good story lines, especially since they deal with other GL's besides Hal Jordan. Mogo once again proves that yes, size does matter. lol  The only drawback that I saw to this movie was the timeline. Someone did post the Blackest Night error but this is dealing with the apparent time that Jordan has been a GL. Based on First Flight, we are led to believe that Jordan was not long on the Corps, as in still a rookie, before defeating Sinestro and Arisa was already a GL. In Emerald Knights, Jordan seems to be fully trained and integrated into the Corps as though he has been there for many months and Arisa is brand new.  Perhaps there was some hidden time warp in First Flight that I missed. You tell me.

Compared to First Flight, there is also a bit more violence. While we accept that GL's may have to kill in self defence, this goes a bit overboard, as in the Titanic hit a small chunk of ice. Somehow, I just don't think GL's would be quite so mercenary. One other bit, we do get the story of how the Guardian's created the first four rings to combat chaos and create order in the very beginning. Seems like the Manhunters did not exist since they came before the rings, right? Yet Jordan promises to tell Arisa about his fight with the Manhunters. Another time warp perhaps?

Without giving away too much, Krona is the main villian here, and his shadow demons from the "Crisis". There is only a little bit of a back story here that cried out - "Hey, don't forget the Anti Monitor" but no such luck.

The Good : Nice to see alien lanterns given a turn. Nice tie ins to what's to come. Plus I finally know how to pronounce Atrocitus
The Bad : Nothing really. The aforementioned time difference with First Flight and Emerald Knights does not distract from the story unless you really want to be anal about it. Sinestro's voice over is a tad bit too "English", not to knock you blokes
The Ugly: Why has it taken so long for DC to make these movies? True, they could be better but GL would have been nice a few years ago when SUperman and Batman animated shows were riding high. It would make a decent (if well written) animated series of its own.

All in all : Worth the purchase. Go out and buy it Poozer!

Turok Son of Stone # 2

This was a highly disappointing issue for me. I grew up reading Turok, that is, the original version by Gold Key and Warren. I tried to like the new version when it came out but lost interest when the whole Mothergod story came out. My spirits were lifted when the animated movie came out. A real life version would have been great considering the advances in dino CGI thanks to Jurassic Parks. But, back to the chase, I had hoped that this new path for Turok would follow the original, that which made it enduring to me, two Native Americans in a land of "Honkers" trying to find a way home. Instead, we get back to the land in which time has no meaning and future tech and people appear alongside T-rex. Sorry, it was a let down. Somethings are best left as they were originally meant, others can be improved but for me, this isn't the way to do it. Others may like the storyline but I think for we who liked the original stories, we're gone. I, for one, will sadly make my way back to the happy hunting ground.
