R18+ video games finally legal in Australia

You probably heard that a lot of games got banned in Australia, due to the lack of a 18+ rating. Well those days are hopefully behind now. At the beginning of the year, the R18+ rating for games was finally legalized (only a decade after the rest of the world). Shortly after, the first R rated game was announced; Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor's Edge (namely the Wii U version). Since then there has been a steady trickle of R Rated games into shops, with more inbound and the rumours and promises of rereleases of previously banned/heavily censored games, such as Mortal Kombat and Left 4 Dead 2. No doubt other future games like The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt will be R18+ (unless stupid old politics decide to ban them again).

R rated games are now on all platforms except the 3DS and possibly the Mac. Hopefully parents and draconian politics realize that it's their fault if they buy their kid an R18+ game, not the makers of the game. Then again it's not the only flawed rating system; I can't really understand why American movies skips straight from PG to R with no M, and as a result the rest of the world must put up with dumbed down movies made to fit the PG-13 rating. In other news I anticipate Yathzee Crosshaw reviewing an R rated game.

First R Rated game announced.

First R Rated Game released. Though I don't own a PlayStation 3, the release of this game was still rather exciting.

Just saying, what if the next COD is rated R? Then those 12 year olds won't play it. Sales will no doubt decrease and Activision will go bankrupt. Hopefully.
People who owned this game before the legalization will no longer have bragging rights that they own a special R rated game.

The lift on R rated games came just in time!
Hentai for the win!

Wow that is great news.

Its about time they lifted that obscured ban in your country.

I could go into how the idea of banning things that people don't like or personally approve of is stupid, but I will just leave it at that.

But congratulations on that :)

Australia has strange censor laws. Ever since I learned about Adventure Time being heavily censored, I have been confused by them.

Either way, congratulations. Just bear in mind according to hyperbole, your society will be reduced to shambles shortly.

It's illegal to film a porn scene in Australia if a woman involved has A-Cup breasts.

We have funny laws.

@lykopis: It's true. Though I'm not sure if it's been updated. It was definitely true a few years ago.
