Superheroes Never Die

As a follow up to the question of aging and death in comics, I also wanted to point that superheroes never die. I don't just mean the 'Simon Williams' weekly resurrection', I mean the fact that comic books take religious mythology super-literally so that 'dying' is basically just being transformed into an immortal ghost that dwells in another dimension.

Real death is it - you're done, caput. Even if they could rebuild you, it's not the same mental continuity. That's what happens when machines (like human beings) stop working and fall apart.

The same is not remotely true in comic books. 'Murder' is really not 'murder' in the real world sense, it's 'kidnapping'. From my point of view this lessens the impact of 'death' even more than resurrections and super-tech do. If Uncle Joe is 'up in Heaven', Uncle Joe never died. Take Thanos, for example. The dude never died, not once. He was either immortal in our Universe or immortal living in his girlfriend's basement. So, really, when a Marvel or DC book says someone 'died' they're just misusing the word.

In the Marvel Universe, only Uncle Ben stays dead...

So, one of the X-Men just died in the AvX story... SO WHAT? He's already died three times and come back... In fact, MOST of the well known X-Men have died and come back at least once...

Johnny Storm died not long ago... Marvel made a big deal of it... "ONE OF THE FF WILL REALLY REALLY REALLY DIE!!!!" And he did... ANNNNNNND then he came back...

Cable died defending Hope and Utopia.... and he came back....

Death and resurrection is practically a requirement to even be ON the X-Men's team...

How many times has Spider-Man died and come back? How about Captain America? Bucky has died at least two or three times...

It's freaking ridiculous. And Mavel had the balls to have an issue during Fear Itself where the Black Widow tried to convince a Newspaper that Bucky was REALLY REALLY REALLY dead.. and she was lying...

Death in comic books means nothing. they will come back and likely be stronger than before...

So, a super hero dies in the comic books... Yawn.. stretch... and they try to guess how long it will be until they are back...

You have absolutely zero proof that real death is nothingness. That's one of the most highly debated concepts in science.

We have no idea what lies after death and to think that we do shows on arrogance on the part of the human species. Their could be anything after death. We simply don't know.

Um, this wasn't about resurrection. This was about the fact that you don't die in comics, you go to another dimension. This is canon in DC and Marvel.

The fact that the human mind is a product of causal machinery is not debated by any neurologist or neurophysicist, and when that machine comes apart there ain't nothin' left to be you. Do you believe everything you see on "What the Bleep Do We Know"?

@quirky_anecdotes:  Actually have thought on this, which seems to make sense. A person/animal dies, now in the world we have people/animals giving birth to babies. So what if, the person that dies actually comes back as a baby human or animal?(Their past memories/life erased entirely) I mean it makes sense sorta, because theres death and life if there was no death then the Earth would get overpopulated. But thats just a theory I have.

Reincarnation is logic-fail. If you don't retain your identity you ain't the same person. Who cares about karma? That's some other sap's problem.

Buddhism fails if you try to take it literally (Iike most mythology).

You wouldn't retain your past identity, because that identity is dead and you'd be born a completely different person. Hence your being born again. But anyway, won't get into this argument and all so stopping here.

Big fan of Ditko's Vic Sage, in any case. That dude was an ass-kicker.

NO! We reject that outright and refuse to remember it!!! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!

Okay.. yeah, it was one of those, "Hi, I'm here for a quick visit things" right? Peter was sort of hopping through another dimension and seeing different people from his past... Uncle Ben does make an appearance near the very end and then he fades away... So, since this was in a different dimension, and since Uncle Ben didn't come back and stay, I think we can safely say this was not a case where the character actually came back to life....

But he DID make an appearance as a live person in a twisted sort of temporary dimension hopping thing....
