MY PULL LIST

List items

  • -All Star Western (DC) Has been written by Justin Grey and Jimmy Palmiotti since before the DC relaunch, when the title was called "Jonah Hex". Month after month they manage to pump out great stories, like it's frickin magic or something. They have the character of Jonah Hex down to a science. If you are looking for a title with a little less "goody-too-shoes" and a lot more anti-hero pick this title up.

  • -Batman (DC) Scott Snyder is DC's new "Bottomless Fountain of Great Idea's". His writing has both the personal and emotional feel that Alan Moore perfected in his comics plus a strong plot line. Batman is THE bat-title right now, as it should be.

  • -Batwoman (DC) The great thing about this comic is that the creative team is willing to take risks and try new things with this comic and its character. The art is unlike anything else being published and the writing style feels new and fresh. The main character, Batwoman aka Kate Kane doesn't free like a modernized version of a character from another era in comics. If you want to read a comic that doesn't remind you of past comics, but feels like something altogether new, then Batwoman is your girl.

  • -Demon Knights (DC) Balls out fun! Fun, Fun, Fun! You can tell the writer, Paul Cornell, is having a blast writing this, and that energy just seeps off the pages of this title.

  • -Dial H (DC) The writer China Mieville seems promising. Very cool characters, who have a very real feel to them. If you like comics that are totally bizarre and darkly goofy, I would check this out.

  • -Earth 2 (DC) This is were I get my Justice League fix, cause the actual Justice League title is so blah and lacks any depth of plot or character. Only one issue out so far, but so far so good.

  • -Justice League Dark (DC) A bunch of DC characters who do not play well with others and don't really like one another crammed onto a team. Fun character interaction and very good art.

  • -Swamp Thing (DC) Scott Snyder again. This run on Swamp Thing is very reminiscent of Alan Moore's run. The art by Yanick Paquette goes perfectly with the writing and the character. This book has an epic, yet personal feel to it. Great stuff.

  • -Wonder Woman (DC) The best Wonder Woman arc ever!!! The writing by Brian Azzarello and the art by Cliff Chiang work together perfectly to create a world that is modern yet old and characters that are both callous and brutally ambitious. Its a greek tragedy, minus the weighty-ness. Wonder Woman feels young and a little less wise than she was before the DC relaunch. I find that this makes her more relate able to me but at the same time you can tell she is from another world. A world filled with vengeful goddess's, mythical creatures and a lot of sex and violence.

  • -The Spider (Dynamite!) I have to say that issue #1 was one of the strongest, if not the strongest first issue I have ever read. Written by David Liss and drawn by Colton Worley. The narration and characterizations are good and strong the plot is compelling, this has the makings to be a modern pulp classic. The art is amazing to. Great facial expressions and layouts are wonderful. Very reminiscent of J.H. Williams III, in fact I would really like to see this artist drawn for Batwoman some day, but not now cause I want him to keep The Spider looking amazing. This series deserves an Eisner.

  • Thun'da (Dynamite!) Only one issue in. Based off an old pulp comic. I think this comic is going to have more depth and character than people expect. It didn't get great reviews from what I hear, but I really enjoyed it and am looking forward to future issues. Another cool thing is it contains some of the original comic in the back of the book.

  • -Saga (Image) Brian K. Vaughan is comic book royalty. He went away for awhile, to Hollywood, but know he is back! And his comic book writing skills didn't miss a beat with Saga. Great book! Great character interaction in a great world with great story. Oh and guess what? The art is also great! Fiona Staples art is clean, bordering on simplistic, but with all the right detail in all the right places. Her facial expressions are particularly beautiful.

  • Punisher (Marvel) Greg Rucka is writing for Punisher now and were Rucka goes I go. Never been into Punisher before, but I've been reading it and like it. It has a distinct feel to it, kinda reminds me of Gotham Central. The art by Marco Checchetto is great.

  • -Captain America (Marvel) Ed Brubaker's run on this comic has been phenomenal. I think he just might be the definitive Cap writer. Marvel has a tendency to use up writers till they have nothing left in them to write, but Brubaker seems to be an exception.

  • -Captain Marvel (Marvel) Only one issue in so far, but so far so good. The writing is a bit to structured, but I think this will improve as the series continues. I like the art, specially the action scenes.

  • Harbinger (Valiant) I was not familiar with Valiant comics till their recent relaunch, but I find the direction they are taking with their publishing very intriguing. Feels more modern and far more attached to the real world than DC or Marvel. Harbinger reminds me of Marvels Runaways, but is much more serious. The writer writes teenagers in a believable and compelling manner, which is nice. The art is fine, but nothing special.
