I'm only going to answer Eagle's last question, without bias. In my opinion, DC and Marvel are different in that sense for one particular reason: Realism. When you look at the world around us, nobody gets along properly. Everybody's ideologies differ and different ideologies bring about war, perfect example, Civil War. DC heroes are meant to be perfect heroes, everybody gets along and villains are always around. In Marvel, they deal with the same issues human beings deal with, from money and relationships, to trust and alcohol, drugs too (classic Spider-Man and a Green Arrow comic). The DC universe is supposed to be an ideal universe, little to no confrontation between heroes and as Superman's city's name says "Metropolis". The Marvel universe is more confrontational, and is more realistic because there is always a war of some sort, whether it be political, universal, or personal. With characters like Spider-Man, Tony, and a few others, it's personal, and with guys like Nova and the Surfer, it's universal. But they do have ONE thing in common: When a threat that is especially dangerous comes up, they put their differences aside and work together, no matter how they feel about one another and that's something I can honestly say, that would probably happen in the real world.
