Favorite Artists

This is a list of some of my favorite and most influential artists in the comic book industry.

List items

  • Tony S. Daniel is a self sustaining powerhouse. When DC Comics launched their New52 event across 52 titles, Tony was writing and drawing Detective Comics. I was so impressed with his work. Imaginative and creepy but graceful. Batman had two titles on the shelf with my attention immediately. I met Tony at Epic Comics in Orlando, FL last year and got him to sign a couple of my comics as well as a Batman R.I.P. poster that he did the interior art work for. He's really an inspiration.

  • Greg Capullo, probably the most seasoned on this list. His precision and clear lines worked well even in the darkest panels. Might have to do with working on Spawn all those years. He really got me excited about drawing again. Really nice dude too, met him twice at MegaCon.

  • Francis Manapul quickly impressed me with his panel work and the texture of his work. Most impressive.

  • This guy has some sick line work. I love the way he lines his faces and he pays some serious attention to detail when needed. He's been pretty good at answering my questions as well. Really appreciate you bro.

  • This was the first time I was exposed to Rafael Albuquerque's rough art style but I absolutely loved it. It fits perfectly with Snyder's writing.

  • This guy right here is my "something to chase." You'd have to ask Matthew MCconaughy about what that reference is about. He's got a different technique of coloring his work. Not to mention the cleanest pencil work I've ever seen in person. There's a lot of graffiti influences in his work, or maybe I'm wrong but that's what I get from it. I met his as well, although his english at the time wasn't to good so it wasn't a great conversation. Absolutely love his work.

  • The legend. There's a few artists from the 90's that I enjoy and Jim Lee is the top. He's just a wonderfully talented artist and I thoroughly enjoy his vision of the characters his been blessed with drawing.

  • The Wizard, Todd McFarlane. The creator of Spawn, one of the worlds unforgettable anti-heroes of all time. Such a cool story and character design. McFarlane is still a powerhouse with his awesome toy lines and he still draws. Looking forward to more of his work and the return of Spawn to film.

  • Mr. Illustration, Silvestri creates some fantastic work and his pencil and pen work is so sharp. His creations always jump off the page for me. He is responsible for Top Cow comics and The Darkness.

  • His run on the Return of the Sinister Six, his Spider-Man was "THE" best. I wish he knew how important his art was to me and how it affected my decision to draw and keep drawing.
