Jim Carrey Denonces Kick-Ass 2

So Jim Carrey is refusing to promote Kick-Ass 2 because of its violent content especially after the tragic events of Newtown, Connecticut. Does this make since to anyone if he was ok with the violence before Newtown what does that truly say about his mind set, as well as if the violence bothers him now should he in protest return the money he was paid to the studios instead of just refusing to promote the movie. Then again is Carrey justified in his actions? I mean most of us have read Kick-Ass 2 and yeah we can't deny there is violence, but is violence alone a reason to protest this film? (Personally I don't think violent content creates violence), but WHAT DO YOU THINK, has violence in comics (or any form of media for that matter) created violence in our society, or does the violence in our society create violence content in are media, or do you not even care?

By the way no matter what Jim Carrey does or says I still going to see Kick-Ass 2: Balls to the Wall.

Jim Carrey is proven to be damaged goods. His opinion is of little to no worth.

No I don't think Violense in media (comics, games, movies) I think what does though is news outlets. They basically shout LOOK AT THIS GAME IT'S BAD BECAUSE IT HAS BLOOD AND GUTS ITS BAD. At that's what I think on it..

@z3ro180: True but he supposedly did his part before the Newtown Tragedy so yes he knew what he was getting into but does his new mind set have any validity to it?

If the film does great at the box office, and it likely will, giving Carrey a popularity boost, better roles and money offers, let's see if Carrey denounces that.

That doesn't make any sense. Love Carrey but he should do the job he's paid for. Anyways I don't care if he promotes the movie or not, I'm going to see it.

@v_scarlotte_rose: Yeah that is a good article an it has an important message in that we should all be more open to changing stances. but why sandy hook there have been other tragic events involving violence before. I would have figured if he was so susceptible to change that one of those earlier events would have brought him to the same conclusion.

I don't get this sentiment that people seem to have anymore about bashing celebs simply because they have money. Granted, there are plenty of people who are famous for no apparent reason other than their wealth and reckless behavior. But here it simply looks like the guy has changed his mind about violence in films after the events of Sandy Hook. Not to mention this isn't some tabloid superstar, it's Jim Carrey for crying out loud. I don't see a problem with this whatsoever. If things went on as usual THEN I would be questioning the state of affairs in Hollywood. But here someone seems to have been affected by recent, tragic events. There's no reason to assume he has an ulterior motive just because he's famous. He's a human being first and foremost. Geez.

The nice thing is we got to see Millar compare himself to Tarantino as a filmmaker and suggest that Kick-Ass is a morally-driven franchise. That's more entertaining than the whole sequel could hope to be.

If you are somebody who has certain principles, more power to you. Stand by your beliefs, and feel good looking yourself in the mirror every morning.

However, if you are somebody who is willing to profiteer off of things you find clash with your ethics, then to me you are simply UNprincipled. If Kick Ass 2 is as distasteful to him as he would have us believe, then I have no idea how he can stand to profit from it.

And the writer of the article posted on here is the most pretentious, superior acting d***hole I have ever seen, and the internet is a big place.

I agree to a certain extent. things happen. he changed his mind. happens to the very best of us. who are we to judge? and if he did the movie then he refused to promote it because of a devastating tragedy changing his mind should he not get paid for the work he already did? I think the people in this thread should hop off the high horse and look at things from his perspective instead of being so cynical. he is human after all. and I for one still and always will love jim carrey

If money does not mean more to him than his new found ethics, then he should return it on principle. Or better yet, pay it forward. Donate his paycheck to a charity that helps the families of victims.

But if money does mean more to him than his principles, then he should shut up about them, as they clearly dont have any value to begin with.

Oh, the studio should, and definitely did, pay him. But if it means to him what he says it does, he should literally put his money where his mouth is.

@joshmightbe: I'm not sure if your being serious or facetious. Newtown is not the first attack on a school maybe an elementary school, but Columbine was the first. If your being serious you need to do your research before commenting on the inter-web otherwise you look like a tool.

@jpwolf5: I also hate when people claim video games or movies inspire violence as if the world was just a bunch of rainbows and unicorns before someone first got punched on a screen. It just makes people sound stupid when they make those claims.

Interesting how he does this after he's done filming, after he got his paycheck, but not when the shooting actually happened.

Maybe he would get a fine if he did that? I think they sign a contract when they are filming so he couldn't have quit.

Well he actually denounced it because of the shooting in Sandy Hook New Jersey where 20 elementary school kids and 6 teachers were killed. Truth be told I love Jim Carrey the guy is literally 5/10 my childhood. But he's gone a lil crazy over the past decade, and he's always been known to be kind of irrational and emotionally charged, it's why he's such a good actor.

I think he really did feel it when he heard about the shooting, but I don't think he accounted for logic first, he just spoke from the heart and that lack of thinking before he leaped had a backlash effect.
