@Night Thrasher: Whoa, Stand Lee is the gold standard. I just finished reading his run and I think it was decent. He definitely created a lot of interesting villians, but he would often overwrite dialouge and made the comic too similar to a daytime soup opera. And he also did not give everyone personality. Most of his characters were either one or two dimensional.
@PhantomKnight: Ok, I was just asking because you said he seems overpowered when there are a lot of more powerful superheroes. Green Lantern is stronger than Superman, and one can even argue Flash is considering the power of kinetic energy and momentum. I feel Superman is having the same problems Spider-Man had a few years ago. Spider-Man lost his supporting cast, and the only person left was MJ, whom Marvel kept trying to get rid of. They brought back Aunt May, but they did nothing with her. When was the last time Superman spent longer than a day in Metropolis. How isn't Lois Lane pissed? He was gone a year on New Krypton, and now he's goign to take another year to travel the country. Look at All Star Superman. It was basically Superman getting in touch with his loved ones and fans.
I don't know why people say Superman is not relatable. He's essentially DC's Spider-Man, except instead of being irrational and irresponsible, he's a bit optimistic and overly forgiving. The only thing that makes characters relatable are their relationships and the common life problems the characters to go through. Sure, Superman's powers might make it harder for people to believe he might get killed in a fight, but just look at his rogue's gallery. Most of them are super powered beast that are made to be stronger than him. I just think there aren't enough writers who find Superman to be their fav superhero, and when one does come along he usually comes up with a silly storyline to make him more relatable, instead of just writing good stories.
