@kapitein_zeppos: How about Iron Man, X-Men, and Spider-Man? They aren't dark, gritty, and in alley ways. Plus, Superman Returns had a dark (emo) Superman, and it bombed. Superman returns failed because he had no true villian and the plot was boring.
I think that comic book deaths are over hyped and done too much, but I think comic book fans have a tendency to complain too much about them. Sometimes a plot calls for a death. I have no problems with killing off a character and bringing him or her back asap if it's done correctly.
"Sometimes the change had an impact on the character and the story but underneath it feels like a simple marketing ploy."
Why is everything little change or plot twist in comic books viewed as a marketing ploy. The costume does look like the swimsuit, and it was a good idea to change it. I really don't know why so many comic book fans are so worry about whether their character looks iconic. If the character is given a better costume that shouldn't be trumped by people wanting the characters to keep an old look. The new look, except for the jacket, looks better than the old look. I saw keep the new look.
Kingpin is #4, there's no doubt considering all he did against Spider-Man, especially years ago. #5 is probably Hobgoblin seeing as how big he was in the 80s. #6 would probably be a toss up between Carnage and Sandman.
I personally don't want this reboot to happen simply because of Gwen Stacy. I hate her character, and don't want her to become popular. I have a feeling that Marvel will probably bring her back in the 616 universe just for the movie.
