Half empty or half full?

if it's empty it's empty, if it's full it's full. so if you're doing the action of "filling" it to the half way point, then you would call it half full. however if you fill the glass completely, and then empty half out, it would be considered half empty. that's my outlook on it.

And to answer this one, no, it doesn't mean they have a darker outlook on life because you can't compare a glass of water to life. They're two totally different things although I have a dark outlook on life and I would say the glass is half empty.

You look at a glass thats smack dab at its halfway point and someone ask you how much is left....do you say "its half empty" or do you say it's "half full" and does that mean that people who look at it "half empty" have a darker outlook on life?

I'd say half full...and I doubt it means that cause not many people have a darker outlook on life than me

I'd say half full because half empty just sounds so stupid...nobody looks at things based on emptiness

but that little glass shows a bit of perspective into you...you look at it and think half empty its almost as if theres no point because it almost gone...idk...i'm too complex even for myself haha [[=

I actually see where you're coming from. And believe me, you're not the only complex one here. At 17 I think I have ulcers.

It means "waiter I need a refill!"

In engineering lore as well as game designing, the corollary to this rhetoric question is that, for an Engineer, the glass is neither half empty nor half full, it is just exactly twice as big as necessary.

I once asked my mom "is this glass half empty or half full". Her response was "what the hell are you doing using my good glasses. Get your a$$ into that kitchen and get a plastic cup. Don't you dare use my good glasses again. I swear I would slap the stupid right off of your face if I wasn't afraid you would be walking around headless." So, you tell me, is my mom a glass half-full or a glass half-empty kind of person.

If it started empty and filled it half way, then it's half-full. If it started full and you removed half of the contents, then it's half empty

I don't get handed a glass half empty and I've never put my glass down half full.
