if it's empty it's empty, if it's full it's full. so if you're doing the action of "filling" it to the half way point, then you would call it half full. however if you fill the glass completely, and then empty half out, it would be considered half empty. that's my outlook on it.

Half empty or half full?

"You look at a glass thats smack dab at its halfway point and someone ask you how much is left....do you say "its half empty" or do you say it's "half full" and does that mean that people who look at it "half empty" have a darker outlook on life?"
I love your questions for some reason.
And to answer this one, no, it doesn't mean they have a darker outlook on life because you can't compare a glass of water to life. They're two totally different things although I have a dark outlook on life and I would say the glass is half empty.
I'd say half full...and I doubt it means that cause not many people have a darker outlook on life than me

That should be the universal rule for the situation. nice.
zzzzzzzzzz

"but idk..i get a sense that people saying half full would be more happy because they're more optimistic.....
Cpt_linger, i didnt even try to read what you wrote. lol"
I'd say half full because half empty just sounds so stupid...nobody looks at things based on emptiness
you don't say there's 10 mL of air in this Pepsi bottle, you say there's 2 L of Pepsi

I guess, but like I said, you can't compare a glass of water to life.

but that little glass shows a bit of perspective into you...you look at it and think half empty its almost as if theres no point because it almost gone...idk...i'm too complex even for myself haha [[=

I actually see where you're coming from. And believe me, you're not the only complex one here. At 17 I think I have ulcers.
In engineering lore as well as game designing, the corollary to this rhetoric question is that, for an Engineer, the glass is neither half empty nor half full, it is just exactly twice as big as necessary.

"LOL...hey 2 years older at 19 and you may be blessed enough to be like me. j.k j.k but yeah i think our half empty people may tend to be a little more pessimistic and are quick to see the negative of something before the good"
just so you know I'm Rodney Skinner and Jack the Ripper who posted above...
and let me tell you, not one person knows me as not being pessimistic, in fact I'm utterly depressed, and yet I still say half full...

LoL. I'm negative, depressed, hateful, enraged and a billion other things. That glass barely has anything in it.

Maybe its because it doesnt have what your looking for, it doesnt have anything in it, because your not fullfilled in some kind of way...lol idk...i cant psycho analyze through the comp
I once asked my mom "is this glass half empty or half full". Her response was "what the hell are you doing using my good glasses. Get your a$$ into that kitchen and get a plastic cup. Don't you dare use my good glasses again. I swear I would slap the stupid right off of your face if I wasn't afraid you would be walking around headless." So, you tell me, is my mom a glass half-full or a glass half-empty kind of person.
