Quest For The 240%..... Wish Me Luck!

So to celebrate this years E3 I have decided to embark on a quest, a quest so hard it will take 100s of hours to complete, a quest so hard it has broken many a gamers heart and mind, a quest so hard that no ordinary gamer would dare to attempt it. But Jon_Anon is no ordinary gamer, no, Jon_Anon will walk boldly in to the night and when all seems lost he will stare oblivion in the face and whisper "I. Will. Not. Yield". That's right ladies and gents, I'm going for the fabled 240% compilation rate on Castlevania: Symphony of the Night ^_^.

Now for those that don't know what that means I basically have to attempt to uncover every one of the 1890 rooms of Dracula's castle during two play through's, one with the castle inverted, as well as collecting every single item in the game, now that would only get me 200.6% so then I have to find the glitches and exploit them so that I can reach 240 and just for LOL's I may as well do all the achievements while I'm at it.

Now I don't know how long this is going to take me as I haven't played the game since I was a kid and i don't think I even finished it then :-\ so anyway wish me luck?

Seriously you gonna need every bit of luck and stamina to get through this.

I rarely play video games but SotN is one of the few I`ve played through more than once - never 240% though

So good luck, at least you`ll have 100s hours of fun ahead of you ;)

@samimista: Well Castlevania: SotN is a very hard game, for instance to get one of the weapons you have to kill a certain monster hundreds of times until he drops it.

@cameron83: Exactly

@dragonborn_ct: I'm gonna need a loooooot of Red Bull for this I think

Posted by Jonny_Anonymous

@hel: Exactly, even if I have to rack up a stupid about of hours to do it, what better game to do it on?

Tips hat.

@jonny_anonymous: Lol! Sounds like a pain similar to the celestial weapons in X. xD

Ahh Castlevania SotN along with Super Metroid are the two games that spawned the Metroidvania sub-genre of games. It's usually ranked as one of the best games ever made.

You make it sound so dramatic in your post....I approve. Summer is the time for adventures.

My spirit will be with you in your quest!(I also like to mentally imagine my pursuits as quest. Gives me extra motivation sometimes)

@jezer: It truly is going to be an adventurous quest filled with trials and tribulations but I shall prevail and retrieve yonder holy grail that is the 240% as my prize :-)

Ok so I'm currently sitting at 42.1%, jeez this is gonna take a while lol

@jonny_anonymous: Dare ya to speed run the game at the same time.

Are you a bad enough dude to do everything and optimize your run?

Posted by Jonny_Anonymous

@decoy_elite: pfft I couldn't even do that if I wanted to, it's taking all my time trying to find the secret rooms that I never found the first time round lol

@jonny_anonymous: Oh then I guess you wouldn't be up for the Saturn challenge then. XP

@jonny_anonymous: Complete everything in the Sega Saturn version of the game, which due to a deal with Sega has extra items and areas.

Although the graphics are worse and the whole thing is in Japanese. :V

Oh good luck JA!! Its an amazing game, I finished it like 3 months ago, was such an nice trip down memory lane. Hope you have lots of fun, and know where to get the best weapons and armor to make your goal a lot easier heh heh. I was really lucky I got the Crissaegrim pretty fast and it really helped getting some of the rarer weapons. Keep us updated on how you go!

@chaos_prime: Thanks dude

@sc: I hear you have to do a lot of farming to get the Crissaegrim?

I thought of the GL ring when I read this. Doesn't its full charge go up to like 241.6%?

It's not even 1 pm yet so it's a little early for beer lol.

However there is a drink socially acceptable to drink early in the day,

Bloody Mary, Cheers! (seriously though I think those things are freaking disgusting lol)

@vortex13: I'v never had one before but it has a plant in it so I'll pass :-\

@jonny_anonymous: It kinda reminded me of Super Mario Bros for NES and Super Mario 3 (also for NES) where you have to go through all the doors in the last castle to find bowser (except if you know which one or find the right one by accident), also had the fun of playing Dragon Warrior where NPC's told you how many steps in what direction you need to take to cross a dark cave where you can't see squat... that being said i got around 170% until my Ps2 burned out : / (mind you it was summer break and FFX was on 24/7 before that)

I'm playing SOTN on the ps3 again now. It's the PSN version. Truly great game. I had never played it on the PS1.

Some of the best game music ever.
