Now That Age of X has ended...

X-Men: Legacy #247

What do you guy's think about it? I think as an event it was solid, but nothing special. And honestly I don't feel like anything truly significant happened. It never could shake that Age of Apocalypse: Redux vibe for me. I really felt like Carey was just playing dress up with the X-Men and mutants on Utopia. While I enjoyed Legion choosing reality and actively controlling "Moira" I feel a story about Legion better handling his many personalities could've been done without all the hype of this event. Once the "final" battle began I felt no true sense of gravitas or danger, because well, if Legion made this world, then he could fix it and restore the 616 timeline. I just didn't feel like anything actually happened within the event itself. And I don't foresee any lasting change coming out of this. Sure everyone will remember their/lives in the age of X & I'm sure that Frenzy's feelings for Scott will hold so that she can have some drama in Legacy, but I don't see how this truly affects the X Universe? This was at it's core, one big dream sequence that certainly didn't need to drag on for 6 issues. The most intriguing thing to come out of this was the Age of X Warpath, Chamber,& Phoenix crossing over into the 616 universe. But even that I don't going anywhere big. Maybe Mike Carey will prove me wrong in the future, but I feel like this story was a whole lot  nada. Was it a solid read, yes, most certainly. But did it matter, no, at least that's the case as of now.

See I don't think it really had any connection to Age of Apocalypse except the name. I guess it was kinda the reverse, the world ruled by humans trying to kill mutants rather than vice versa. I do feel like this is the redemption of Legion which is pretty cool. Cannonball was the leader but people still didn't follow him when it came down to it.

Age of Apocalypse was all over this, Carey just made minor tweeks. Cyclops shady past, "edgy" character, and ornery attitude. Rogue's relationship with Magneto. Magneto as the leader of the mutant resistance. Legion being the cause of it all. Gambit's unrequited love for Rogue. Characters from the alternate timeline entering ours at it's conclusions. Too many similarities for me to ignore man. I mean it was a great, great moment in X-men history and I see why writers want to revisit it. But that was lightning in a bottle and something novel at it's time. That magic can't be recaptured mainly because it was done so well the first time that all attempts to do will pale in comparison.

Also I don't feel like Legion was redeemed, especially in the eyes of the others on Utopia. He's got a long way to go for that, but I really don't blame him. I truly feel he can't help himself because when crap like this happens it's not "HE" who's (consciously at least) in the driver's seat. Also I'm sure there were better ways to do a Legion redemption story without resorting to pulling what amounted to a publicity stunt.

Another problem I had is that in Issue 3/4 we find out that the rest of the Universe is in a box, only Fortress X is "real" everything else generated by Moira. so how are the Age of X Universe stories possible? Were the Avengers/FF visiting Utopia on the day that it all hit the fan? I mean I can explain away the Alpha issue by saying that the stories they told about their past lives were just false memories created by Moira, but the Avengers stuff needs to be explained and thoroughly. It was already said that Moira's work was really shoddy due to it being her first time using her powers period and on such a large scale at that. She had a hard enough time holding together her fortress and little war. I'm supposed to believe she created this seemingly flawless fully realized world outside of the "Force Walls" which should have no meaning to Legion? Also she said  she used the collective memories and desires of those on the island as well as Davids to forge the world. Who the hell wanted to be hunted by the Avengers?!

I disagree on some points but not all. I do agree that the transformation of 616 into Age of X wasn't that interesting and it did just mean it got an easy fix but I think that there will indeed be long lasting effects from what happened there. First the Frenzy and Scott thing may indeed lead somewhere in the future. Everyone retaining their memories means alot as they had different experiences that will know effect them as a whole. But most importantly is Revenant and her statement of other pieces that don't fit. First off any Jean Grey/Phoenix situation is always important and can tie into whatever future plan lay ahead for Phoenix in the future. Also her comment that there are other pieces could mean a lot. We don't know what characters from Age of X that may have leaked through. Maybe some we didn't even see that only existed in kinda a false past but where made real during the transfer. I think the story as a whole wasn't oh so grand but it could lead to somethings in the future for sure.

I hope so bro. but right now I just can't see it. Maybe in a month or two from now I'll see some tiny leaves spring from the seeds of this story. But my problem with the memories angle is that they've already been established as temporary. Seeing as how Scott described his as already beginning to wane. And Chuck and Emma said they'd more or less remove them. I know for certain that Frenzy's feelings for Scott from Age of X will effect her relationship with Scott/Emma because she's going to be a confirmed highlighted character in in the upcoming Legacy issues. I just think that this route is a cheap way to explore her character. How about exploring her views of Magneto/her views of human mutant relations now that Magneto's been gung ho for Scott's method of coexistence with humans? Why have her be a jealous/unrequited lover? Just seems so shallow for such a strong female character. Now all of that's speculation, but I strongly feel that's how it's going to play out for her.  As far as Revenant goes, Carey has said on multiple occasions that she is not Jean and he has no plans to bring Jean back. Also I've notice that from Brubaker to Now nobody's been in favor of bringing back Jean, some have even gone as far as to more or less have Jean herself assure us she's not coming back by putting in the White Hot Room. And in regard to the pieces that don't fit, I know Revenant, Berserker, And Starsmore don't fit in the 616 Universe. I actually do look forward to seeing what happens to them in the near future.

I have a feeling that the Age of X story line will have a lingering consequence within the Fear Itself story line. The major characters were played out from start to finish but many of the minor roles at the end of the story arc seemed unfinished and with the Fear Itself major cross over happening I think they will be shown there. How they fear Legion, the relationship triangle between Cyclops, Emma and Frenzy (Emma fears losing Scott), Storm and Namor, Wolverine coming face to face with the adamantium poisoning and choosing to face death by pulling out his claws.

This all being a thought, maybe it gets dealt with before Fear Itself seeps into the X-Men’s lives but I kind of think everything that is being done from now leads to Fear Itself and the aftermath of the will be the Schism story line where lines are drawn and sides are picked.

Or maybe I'm over thinking things.

I just read the last piece tonight, I actually really dug it.

Kind of confusing some of the characters that got brought back.  One that seems to be slipping under the radar is uniscone.  I dont remember her being on the island when this happened, she was in age of x, then not back on the island after.  What??

Also, I thought moira was dead.  How did she have the power to make worlds if she was dead?  Was she just a figure of legions imagination?

Also why was that monster that was eating legions multiple other personalities never touched on again?  I thought he was going to be the final fight.

Yeah this story had plenty of plot holes lol. And "Moira" was the personality of Legion's that was integrating all the deleted ones. I'm really not a fan of it's AoA/HoM elements. This story's been done before, and better. Mike Carey's a better writer than this. This was solid, but nothing I'd recommend to a friend or would've read in retrospect.

So, at the end of all this, which new characters have entered the 616 universe, and who all remembers what happened?

Might have to finish reading this story arc after all

@The Dark Huntress:

Lol. Thanks. So are those four the new ones or are they the ones who remember it?

Yeah, the telepaths remember, but they and Chuck plan to delete the memories from what I could gather. Like I said I wasn't wowed in with this story, but maybe future issues will justify. I think this may be a work who's value and impact must be graded retroactively.

@JonesDeini: Do you know who the other two, along with Chamber and Revenant, that reentered the 616 universe?

@supermanprime6:
Berzerker (AoX Warpath) and some chick who I can't think of at the moment.

@JonesDeini:

Well let me know when you remember who the girl is. I been trying to figure it out and it is driving me crazy! lol.

That was normal Warpath.

Word? I'm gonna have to check out my issue again, because I swear Warpath was wearing his AoX clothes. Also, I recall him being involved in the conversation with with Revenant/Starsmore. On a side note, saw some promos for "The Iron Age" on Free Comic Book Day, and it looks like Revenant is the "Dark Phoenix" that'll appear in that event. Don't know how I feel about that.

@supermanprime6:
Her name's Uniscone, according to a prior poster. Never heard of her though. I may pick up Legacy 248 this week. Looks like Carey plans to follow this up immediately with Rogue, Remy, Magneto, Scott,& Frenzy all dealing with their relationships from the AoX.

X-Men Legacy was a really good read. Since the end of Second Coming I can say that X-Men Legacy is my favourite X-Book. I was seriously pleased with this issue, good follow-up for multiple characters.

Man, I literally JUST finished my review for this issue. Great work, I was a fool for doubting Carey. This issue did every single thing I needed it to. The only chink in it's armor was The art for me. Really wish Mann has stayed on, he was amazing during Age of X and perfect for this issue.

I'm definitely gonna have to pick up the newest issue of Legacy, then.

Loved the Hellion, Chamber and Revenant points.

I don't think Wolverine allows to mind-wipe himself of memories about Age of X. He had his memories erazed too often in the past.

I can see him wanting this gone though. That guy's got enough crap going on up there as is.

i thought about buy it as a trade. is it worth it?

Posted by JonesDeini
@darkcloakx
You know after I finished it I would've said no and called it another alternate dimension story with no impact on the real world, but after reading the latest issue of Legacy I gotta say that it's a good jumping on point and will definitely have tangible affect on the future. So yeah, definitely check it out as a trade.
