My Top Batman Stories

This is a list of my most favourite Batman stories including Story Arcs and TPB's (trade paper backs/graphic novels).

I have been a Batman fan for the better part of my life and love most of the stories that have been written whether modern or classic. Most of my collection is modern stories so I haven't read all the classics but hopefully will sometime in my life (sooner rather than later). Although the classic stories I have read are good I prefer most of the modern ones and especially Grant Morrison work on the character. There is however a few classics in my Top 10 like The Killing Joke (which tops the list), Long Halloween, and Year One.

The list will change from time to time if I've either read a new story or read a old one again feeling I've ranked it too high or too low.

Awesome list.

I'm pretty new to Batman comics and I've only read a few on this list.

Heck, I haven't even read Hush yet!

Man, I need to get reading..

@battle_forum_junkie: I've been a Batman fan for years, collecting for about 4 years now. It's what I focused on most, as I tried to get as many back issues as I can (got the entire series bar one issue since the start of Hush), but am focusing on trying to get other things now. I do however still get the new ones, and if I saw old ones at a good price I wouldn't pass on them.

Oh, I wanted to ask: Do you know how good Greg Rucka's, and Ed Brubaker's Batman runs are?

I've been thinking of picking some up.

@battle_forum_junkie: I don't know how good Brubaker's run is although I've heard good things, and can believe it, and Rucka's run on Detective Comics when Batwoman was the feature character was brilliant.

Another great list for reference -- I have a ways to go with Superman but I'll be tackling Batman next. Thanks. :)

@lykopis: Thanks. I love Batman hence the amount I own/have read.

I'm guessing I'm quite a bit older than you, because I prefer the classics (dang, I remember when these were new) to the modern stuff. Some of the new stuff is really good, but I hate the Death In The Family version of the Joker, trying way too hard to be edgy. Here is my short list:

  1. The Long Halloween
  2. Year One
  3. The Dark Knight Returns
  4. Hush
  5. The Killing Joke
  6. Dark Victory
  7. Arkham Asylum
  8. Haunted Knight
  9. Court of Owls
  10. Batman / Judge Dredd: Judgement On Gotham

Daredevil has some great stuff as well. If you haven't already read, Guardian Devil, and The Man Without Fear, great stuff. Keep on reading man, take care.
