I'm an unrepentant fanboy and geek. I've followed comics my whole life, which is 27 years so far. That said, I'm still from ALABAMA, so I'm far from the center of the comics world. There's only one comic store in town that I'm aware of, which is Kingdom Comics, located in a dilapidated shopping center, which itself is located behind a very modern, expensive stripmall. But, hey, at least I've got that much! Ironically, even though I play video games and read comic books, I work in construction, so I don't LOOK like a fanboy, but I sure-as-hell behave like one. I'm 6'2, with blue eyes and light brown hair....which is slowing falling off my head! Premature baldness is FAR from sexy, but somehow, someway, women seem to notice me. I'm currently attending college locally, taking night classes, and about to move across town. My fellow nerds, heed my advice: Women LOVE a man who knows his way around a kitchen/bar! When it comes to the ladies, alcohol is your most effective weapon!
I was married for 3 years, and I've been divorced longer than that. Which proves, at one point, I did shun the fanboy in me, even with a wife, but I'm lazy, dammit! Don't get me wrong, I'll get married again, whenever the right lady comes along. I do have one daughter, who turned six in June. Her name is Brooklyn. She's a Daddy's girl, and yes, she has me wrapped around her little finger. But dammit, the kid's cute! She's hard to say "no" to!
Comics-wise, my preferences lean towards Marvel, although I really love Geoff Johns' run on Green Lantern. I think DC's old-school approach to characters doesn't fly so well, sometimes. I like superheroes to live in a world that resembles my own. That's why I LOVE Mark Millar's run on the Ultimate titles, particularly the Ultimates, themselves. Jeff Loeb's vol. 3, and Ultimatum just seems like half-assed writing. Although, to be honest, I think that his son's death probably affects his writing more than anyone realizes. It just doesn't seem like his heart's in it anymore. Geoff's focus the motivations and emotions of the characters, particularly Green Lantern and The Flash, really draw you in story-wise. I know some Comic Vine members don't like his revisionist take on alot of GL's backstory, but, it seems to me, that these characters are ALWAYS being given retcons to make them feel contemporary. That's just the nature of the beast. If you want to sell to a modern audience, your product had damn-well-better FEEL modern to the audience, so they can relate to said characters. That's why Supes is sometimes derided as The Big Blue Boy Scout, even by his fellow superheroes. It puts his (very good, to be honest) motivations and demeanor in context with the world he lives in. I also think that Superman's power was equivalent to his post-Crisis levels, he would be FAR more interesting. As it stands, Supes, and some of the members of his "family" just seem to powerful to be threatened by ANYTHING those puny Earthlings could come up with! My favorite Cape would probably be BATMAN, because he has the most interesting personality. Basically, the guy is a jerk! I also love FABLES. I haven't read THE SANDMAN trades, but its next on my list! Hmm, now that I've read my Description post, maybe I should change my alignment to EVIL...... ; )
