Is there a big deal being made over Ms.Marvel being Captain Marvel? She's still Ms.Marvel,The company is just changing her name as a marketing gimmick. It's Marvel..what do you expect? Don't let that be the reason you don't read it.I really hope this book does well when it comes out. It's time Marvel has a premier female superhero that can compete with Wonder Woman,Supegirl,Batgirl etc.Not saying it's a given that she will but I'm hoping.Carol deserves the recognition. Her book was amazing before Dark Reign ruined it.
I agree. Like I said above I'm going to at least give the book a chance before passing complete judgment. I still hate her new look though.

The comic.I don't care what she wears as long as Carol is in her own book.

Commendable, but I don't really believe it. Comic books are a graphic medium and what a character wears and how they appear is a huge part of who they are.  If Bruce Wayne started fighting crime in a pink koala costume, he wouldn't really be Batman anymore, would he? And you can bet there would be readership fallout. I'm exaggerating to make a point, but the point needs to be made. You can say you don't care what a favorite character wears, and maybe you don't initially... but at some point, you will.

The new look she has is like some generic random costume they slapped on a character from a universe other then Marvel.

Yep. To illustrate:

Halo
Halo

Marvelman/Miracleman
Marvelman/Miracleman

Carol as Captain Marvel
Carol as Captain Marvel

Hey look, Halo and Marvelman had a love child!

Ms. Marvel's costume is 1000 times more memorable and iconic. This one is generic and weak.

People don't like the change because there was nothing wrong with her old look and it had become iconic. I just don't think the "butch" look is Carol, period. I still plan to buy the book, but I don't think the character needed a redesign. Her old design was so much better that I imagine it won't be long before we see it again anyway.
But wouldn't NOT buying the series and supporting this unnecessary change lead to her returning to her Ms. Marvel identity sooner rather than later? Because how Marvel works, if people buy the books they'll assume we like what they're doing, and from this thread alone that's obviously not the case with most.  I mean I love Carol's character and happy to see her getting her own series again, but like many others I liked how she had come into her own as Ms. Marvel and made herself an icon as both a superhero and women alike. My biggest issue with this is what many people are already asking, "Why now?". Why would Carol decide after all of these years to take up the mantle of Captain Marvel, I mean Marvel teased his return over the years and for a time it seemed they were grooming Noh-Varr to take up the mantle but then they gave him that random "Protector" idenitity and then let him fade into the background of the Avengers. Yet now all of the sudden Carol wants to take up the mantle, after dedicating her life to being a better hero and making a name for herself as Ms. Marvel only to throw all of that character development away to take up a long dead hero's mantle? Again I must ask, why?

I hear you.

What I really meant to say was "I'll still give the book a chance." Carol is one of my all-time favorites, I won't make any secret of that. And I think it's great that a woman writer is getting the chance to write her book for the first time. Long overdue and I'll at least try to see what DeConnick does with Carol before making a complete judgment.

However, I still hate the redesign, for the reasons you mentioned (very well stated by you and PrimeDirective) as well as simple aesthetics. But what bothers me most about the "new look" is this: Carol has always been stridently proud about who she is -- a woman -- and styles herself as an attractive, confident woman. No need to imitate a "man's look" at all, thank you very much. But now that she has taken the mantle of Captain Marvel, it's like she decided she had to chop her hair off and make herself look more like a man in order to better justify the title of 'Captain' --- which is nonsense. I've read Carol since the beginning and the real Carol would say to hell with that, I'm quite sure of it. It makes me think that DeConnick hasn't really done her research on Carol's character and assumes that Carol would adopt a butch look because she's a generic uber-feminist or whatever. In my opinion it's out of character and a mistake.

Love that Carol is finally getting her own book again and will be back in the spotlight after an undeserved absence.
Hate the new costume and short hair.

And for those who immediately want to assume the worst of anyone who doesn't like the new look because it's not as "fanservicey" as the old one: that's not fair and I think you know it. Please point out where anyone in this thread has said they don't like it because it's not revealing enough. People don't like the change because there was nothing wrong with her old look and it had become iconic. I just don't think the "butch" look is Carol, period. I still plan to buy the book, but I don't think the character needed a redesign. Her old design was so much better that I imagine it won't be long before we see it again anyway.

I really hope the admiring words about this guy are a joke because he's a total tool. Anyone could also run over a bunch of pedestrians with their car just to prove how easy it is. And he claims he's not bragging about it even as he writes that idiotic nonsense? He's just another pathetic loser crying for attention.

@aztek_the_lost@CATPANEXE:

First I want to say that I very much appreciate our hard-working moderators and staff, and don't envy them the task of having to deal with this mess. I haven't been with CV since the beginning (I joined in 2008), but after starting this thread I now realize that vandalism on this scale might be unprecedented in the history of the site.

However, the uneven response to the vandalism indicates that there isn't a clear contingency plan in place for when something like this does occur. The response from some of the mods was to post wiki task awards for fixing the pages. But by doing so, they were essentially telling us that the damage to the pages was irreversible and could not be rolled back. So naturally people set about performing the wiki tasks and I don't blame them. But I was never in favor of this solution and called for rollbacks in my original post. Besides completely skewing everyone's wiki point totals (a secondary concern), who knows what cached versions we are copying and pasting from and how much material will still be lost?

It wasn't until the next day that we finally heard from Staff saying that the pages can indeed be rolled back and that we should cease and desist with the fixes. Which is great, but with the general chaos of all the fixing already going on, it is unlikely the pages will ever completely return to how they were before the vandal struck.

I'm not a mod so I apologize if I am speaking out of line, but I'm hoping that procedures can be implemented so that if/when this happens again, there can be a faster and more ordered response. I'm even in favor of drastic measures like freezing everyone's ability to make edits until a crisis is over if that is what it will take.

Just so you all know, pages can be rolled back and have been. There's no need to copy from a cached. But thanks.

Maybe I'm missing something, but there are a number of pages that are still in a destroyed state:

Zatanna
Poison Ivy
Starfire
Wonder Girl
Supergirl

And I'm sure there are more out there. Please advise.

First truly good news I've heard since this all started. So all of the pages are rolled back? We can suspend all copying measures at this point?

I'd love to, but I'm staring at a 12-hour shift at work today so won't be able to get to it right away.
