I prefer Ted Kord as a scientist on main earth. This was the approach on the Smallville tv show. In the new 52, Ryan Choi is the Atom but they kept Ray Palmer as a scientist. I would use the same approach for some redundant justice society characters like Jay Garrick who is a scientist and Alan Scott who is in the media business. These redundant characters can also play super hero without code names which is actually the more modern trend like what we see in Sherlock Holmes, James Bond, Indiana Jones, Harry Potter, Percy Jackson, etc.
