@thenomadicone: Yeah, it wouldn't be impossible. They could do it exactly the way you pitched it. However, from what I've seen from Superman: Reborn, "The New World," and every thing that's followed, it feels like they're doing everything they can to leave it out.

@jakefuryv2: Thank you! I hope Morrison returns to the character someday.

@charan_: Yeah, I feel the same. It would be great to have the social crusader, t-shirt and jeans Superman back. I think we really need him now. But... he clashes with how Dan Jurgens writes Superman. They are two pretty different interpretations. If almost all of Jurgens material is back in and its Jurgens Superman that's being pushed as the canon version then it feels unlikely that we'll get t-shirt Supes. This is the thing that annoys me the most about Rebirth.

Doomsday Clock #1 confirmed a major piece of Superman's timeline today. So... spoilers ahead:

At the end of the issue, Clark has a nightmare about the night Ma and Pa Kent died. The scene was similar to how their deaths played out in Grant Morrison's Action Comics. Ma and Pa Kent still die in a car accident on the night of Clark's Senior Prom in Smallville. There were a few differences between this new scene and the one Morrison wrote, though. First off, in Morrison's Action Comics, Clark took Lana Lang to prom. In the Doomsday Clock version, Lana goes to Prom with Pete Ross. In Morrison's Action Comics, Clark and Lana are shown dancing and sharing a nice coming of age moment together. In this new scene, Lana is dancing with Pete while Clark watches like a wallflower. This is actually more in line with Secret Origin where Clark avoids a relationship with Lana because he's afraid of losing control of his powers. Also, In Morrison's version, Vyndktvx was implied as being the cause of the Kents' car accident as Pa Kent helped the tiny man fix his car shortly before the fatal crash. In Doomsday Clock, Vyndktvx was nowhere in sight. So.. this did confirm that one element of Morrison's Action Comics is still canon, but it has been heavily altered.

I haven't been reading the Metal crossover, but I do read Justice League regularly and I just finished Justice League #33 (the Metal tie-in). Towards the end of the issue, Cyborg boom tubes the heroes into one of my favorite DC plot mechanics: Hypertime. Hypertime was developed by the likes of Mark Waid and Grant Morrison. It first appeared in the Kingdom Come sequel: The Kingdom. I blogged about it a few years back. Warren Ellis also gave a pretty wonderful explanation of it. DC never actually wrote Hypertime out of continuity and Morrison always maintained that it was still relevant, but it hasn't been referred to much over the years. I'm glad to see that it's getting some love these days.

Hey guys, I'm planning on doing a 24 hour reading and blogging marathon for Superman. I'm thinking I'll go from around 9PM tonight until 9PM tomorrow (Eastern time). Though... I'll probably take numerous breaks throughout the day to eat and do life things. The general focus of my reading/writing will be the new Superman canon post-Superman Reborn (which was the subject of my last blog post here), and, specifically, Lois and Clark's relationship which seems to tie the new narrative together. Relating to that, I have a list of things I want to read/ write about:

Superman: Secret Origin

Superman Vol. 2 #28

Krisis of the Krimson Kryptonite (I have all of it except part 3)

Action Comics #662

Superman Vol. 2 #57

Superman Vol. 2 #59

The Adventures of Superman #505

Superman Vol. 2 #100

The Adventures of Superman #525

Action Comics #720

Superman Vol. 2 #118

Superman: The Wedding Album

The Adventures of Superman #541

Superman Vol. 2 #123

Action Comics #761

Action Comics #775

Convergence: Superman #1-2

Superman: Lois and Clark #1-8

H'El on Earth*

Doomed*

Superman Vol. 3 #32-40 (Geoff Johns' N52 run)

And then maybe revisit some of the early Rebirth stories.

(*I probably won't read ALL of these crossovers. Just the major issues.)

If you have any suggestions or requests for stories that either showcase the Lois/Clark relationship or that you want to see if it can be shoved in the new timeline then please let me know in the comments. I will take your suggestions/requests into consideration as long as I have the issues in my personal collection. If I don't or don't think the story really fits the theme then I'll let you know. Anyway, thanks for reading, and I'll try to start the marathon blog in about two hours.

As a reader, I would be open to that depending on how they develop Jon's character as he gets older. That being said, it's not likely that DC would pull the trigger on something like that. At least, not for long. There's too much marketing and nostalgia in the simple formula of Clark Kent=Superman. That's sort of the same reason why Dick Grayson has never been able to replace Batman for long, and even Barry Allen was brought back from the dead. DC likes to play with legacies and hint at an eventual changing of the guard, but it's rare that they ever make any permanent changes. Who knows, though, maybe the industry will change a lot in the future.

@captainsnart008:

Good to know! I haven't been reading Metal. It looks like Doomed probably is canon then.
