It's been quite a while since I was on here last. I wanted to continue that Omen fan-fic, but stuff kept coming up. In the mean...

Deadpool Game?

This looks pretty good; but I'll reserve my judgement until I see the final product. Teasers tend to show the best cut-scenes and leave out crappy game play.

Hunting for Comic Savvy Folk

I find lately that while some of my ideas don't translate well as regular stories (too flashy for printed works), they might make for a good comic. Problem is: I can't draw anywhere near comic grade level. I'm mediocre with layouts. Not too familiar with writing in scripts.

As you can see, I need alotta help. So, I find myself hunting for skilled comic savvy people to possibly try a collab with. I check Artist Show-Off a lot and there are many of talented artists, so I'm semi hopeful. I still have much organizing to do first, but once all that's done, the hunt begins.

In the meantime, any suggestions would be helpful.

*This is most likely a flash-in-the-pan idea, but it doesn't hurt to dream.

Will There Ever Be a Good Marvel Cartoon?

DC and Marvel have had plenty animated shows over the years and, sadly (because I'm a Marvel fan), DC has been kicking ass in this field. DC's first breakout cartoon series was probably Batman: the Animated Series. Even with its rudimentary style, It was THE most watched cartoon during its run.

The closest Marvel was able to be better was X-Men, during the 90's. It drew in the fans because it semi-catching plots and it was an updated style to previous incarnations. The biggest draw was that the character were drawn almost exactly how they appeared in the comics.

Yes, Marvel tried the anime route and while it looks awful perty, they annoyed me to no end. Every single episode was the same. Wolverine: Mariko, where's Mariko. Yukio, where's Mariko? Shingen, where's Mariko? I love Mariko, Rawr!

Iron Man: I'm trying to make the world a better place, but all the bad things keep making me have to fight. It wasn't my fault, it was Zodiac. Dammit, I'm trying to make the world a better place, but Zodiac won't let me. (Watch it again and count how many times he begs Jensen over and over again to give him more time to make the world a better place).

Blade:... Okay, I watched 3 episodes and ditched it, when he kept using the same special sword technique. Not as bad as when we first heard, "Kamehameha!!", enter the anime world, but it just wore thing on me really quick.

Another thing that's been chaffing me is Marvel, for all its attempts, hasn't really dug into the darker/grittier side of its comic origins. Young Justice (DC) has that appeal going for it while Avengers feels like the same old formula. I do like Ultimate Spider-Man, because of how they're running with a zanier style of storytelling; will definitely appeal to its targeted audience, as well as most Marvel fans.

Marvel needs to step it up a notch; at the very least, upgrade some of the animating for Avengers. I sound like a DC fanboy and its killing me, but I don't hold any real brand loyalty when it comes to quality of a product. I watch Young Justice, I watch Avengers and Ultimate Spider-Man (all of which makes my life sound even sadder, considering my age). I won't stop watching them because of their flaws, but I can't help but point them out.

To much thought put into Comic based animation? You're damn right, but it's 2:34 am and I'm wired. After wasting energy moaning about something stupid, I'm good for bed. Hey, some people drink warm milk, I complain about cartoons. First World Problems and all.

Why I hate 3D

The reason is simple: It's killing movies.

3D is an okay piece of technology for movie buffs, but that was when everything was new and you didn't have to wear those glasses for the whole movie. Now, every movie coming out is in 3D and its getting annoying. First of all, 3D is nothing more than a way to get bigger numbers from the BO.

"Did ya hear that ____________ 3D broke Box Office records?!"

Ya think it might have something to do with the extra five bucks for the ticket and four for the glasses?

Now, fast forward a bit to when its released on DVD. Not everyone has 3D capable TVs. Those extra pairs of glasses for the 3DTV are gonna cost extra. And lets say you just get the regular DVD. You notice right away how weird it looks with EVERYTHING coming towards you and usually in slow-motion. I love Drive Angry for how outlandish it is, but before I even knew it had been in 3D, I could tell. Piranha 3DD is gonna suck, but at least they're upfront about it. So far, the only movie that made 3D work was Harold and Kumar's Christmas and that's only because they made fun of it as well.

3D may kill at the Box Office, but it dies in the home and it takes a little bit of our joy and some of our money with it.

These are my views of course. Some may have had a better experience. Just not me.

Busy busy busy

Been busy as hell, getting some personal matters situated, an ass-ton of writing and I've dabbled a bit with some digital art; though I royally suck at it, lol.

On a more depressing note, I find my love for comics dwindling a bit. Everything just feels like the same regurgitated mess in newer/cheaper packaging. I think my heart will always be in 90's comics.

Now, on to slightly more uplifting news, I'm toying with turning a story into a comic. Just need to find a capable artist. Trust me, the hunt ain't easy. Local talent is stagnant and many others want money just to send me barely visible rough sketches.

Well, that's it for an update.

Writing Slump

At first I thought I hit some old fashioned Writer's Block again, but I think its more of a slump. I just don't feel like writing at all. I'm completely stuck on the story I was working on and even the fan-fic I was diddling with (which has a little more freedom) feels stuck in the mud.

I think I have no real set direction. I've been writing for the sake of writing and its messed up my work. Now I gotta dig myself out of the writer's depression of I have to start all over again. Its a helluva pain in the ass. Need to go back and focus on where I want everything to go and stick to it on its own.

Well, back to the fray, armed with some tylenol and some motown music.

Nerd Pain - Star Wars: The Old Republic

There are a couple times in my life I get nerd pain. Its when something happens (be it in comics, movies, television, etc.) that hurts you deep down to yer inner nerd.

Mine came after getting the chance to be a beta tester for the new Star Wars: The Old Republic MMO. After all the downloading and nearly a whole day of patching and more downloads, come to find my computer is too ancient to actually run the game.

Its like getting kicked in the coin-purse, but with the force. That's Nerd Pain.

Thankfully, I'm still of sound mind, enough, too not blow a load of cash on the insane upgrade I need. Which is good for my family, otherwise they'd be getting nothing for christmas, lol.

Today's Comic Writers

As many know by now, some comics have dropped off in readers. This is due to changes, pointless plots and/or poorly developed characters. What tends to hit sales the most is when a new writer comes on and takes over a favored comic. Back when we were kids, we didn't take note of such things, but, now that we're older and more aware, we're frightened when we hear someone new is taking over _____ comic.

This is true when anyone new comes in, but writers are feared the most. Its the writer who can royally screw up a comic. We've seen varies versions of our favorite character drawn all kinds of ways, but its hard to accept a new story direction when its a complete departure from what you've known since picking up your first issue.

In my opinion, its because there are too many writers brought into issues they are not too familiar with or hardly even read before. When a comic does well, or even better, after getting a new writer, its usually because the writer had a passion for it; they loved that character and loved the world they lived in. Bring in a writer who's always enjoyed Moon Knight into a Moon Knight issue, and you'll most likely get a Moon Knight all fans can enjoy. Bring in a writer who enjoys the likes of Batman into, say, a Ghost Rider comic and who knows what fiasco you might get.

If an issue is doing poorly and losing its fan base, then bring in someone new. If sales are good, the majority of the fans are happy, just leave it be. Barring the firing or quitting of certain staff, don't screw with a working formula.

This is just my opinion, I could be wrong.
