Biography

Osiris was born to Lord Kebros and Lady Erneuth on Xantro I, into the noble House of Arizeph.  He was often at odds with his younger brother, Setekh, but got along well with his adopted brother Ahramoz.  Like some of his peers, Osiris took the Rite of Illumination at age 8, granting him 'Hekai', with power over water and biological (mostly vegetative) matter.

At some point, the family arranged for Osiris to be engaged to Lady Isis of the House of Adorwen; likewise, Setekh was engaged to Isis's sister, Lady Nebetet.  Osiris was initially indifferent to the arrangement, but eventually warmed up to it.

Years later, Setekh was found out to have conducted illegal genetic experiments (for instance, producing composite animals such as serpopards and criosphinxes, and the shapeshifting, energy-vampiric Ammut) and forbidden weapons.  When put on trial, the punishment of exiling him to Duat (a prison dimension of sorts) was considered, but decided against, in favor of rehabilitation.  Osiris was not pleased at this, considering his younger brother to be highly dangerous.

When Athymar (or 'Atum') of the House of Ra was chosen by the Imperator of Xantro to be the leader of the terraforming group preparing the planet Earth of the Sol system for eventual Xantroan conquest, the House of Arizeph (Setekh included, much to Osiris's frustration) was one of multiple families to be appointed to follow.  On Earth, Osiris was one of the main architects of Heliopolis, the Xantroan 'embassy' on Earth (around 10 000 B.C.E.).  The city was soon overrun by invaders, Arzacians (lead by the reptilian warlord Apophis), but the Xantroan Heliopolitans managed to counter the assault and purge the Earth from Arzacian influence (or so they thought).

In an otherwise peaceful age, an incident involving much alcohol occured.  Nebetet got pregnant, and due to various circumstances it was not possible to determine whether Setekh or Osiris was the father.  Nevertheless, once the child was born, he was named Anubis, and Osiris was a greater father figure to him than Setekh would ever be.

Over time, the signs of genuine rehabilitation that Setekh displayed, led Osiris into thinking his brother actually could be trusted.  This turned out not to be the case: as a birthday gift, Setekh anonymously gave Osiris a puzzle, which, when solved, buried him alive in a sarcophagus, which Setekh then threw into the sea.  With some of the more powerful Heliopolitans searching for Osiris, Setekh set his plan of conquering Heliopolis (on Arzac's behalf) into motion.  Once Osiris had been found in Byblos, Setekh took the opportunity of murdering his brother with the Deathbringer Blade, a mystical artifact.  Setekh then incinerated the body, leaving only bones that he scattered across the northern African continent.

Due to the unusual circumstances of Osiris's death, Isis was able to resurrect him once the bones had been found, and the Deathbringer Blade stolen.  In the following 16 years, Horus, the son of Osiris and Isis, grew up, raised with the intent of having him defeat Setekh for good.  It worked mostly as planned, with Setekh being exiled to Duat upon his defeat, but not before he had managed to place a curse his older brother: Osiris would not be able to leave Heliopolis without rapidly weakening and ultimately dying, and Zehuti verified that the only given clause to escape the curse was to have Osiris die some other way.  Zehuti was able to cast a 'proxy curse breaker' however, which would lift the curse whenever a specific condition (of Zehuti's choice) was met.

In the present, Osiris and Isis have both ascended to the Heliopolis's throne.

Abilities & Weaknesses

Inherent Powers

  • Regeneration:  Triggered at severe injury, Osiris (like all Nitari) can lapse into a death-like comatose state, preparing his body for a complete (or mostly complete) regeneration which will often occur hours, or days after the event.  Common side effects of such a regeneration is the development of a new 'Persona', which entails that his appearance, Hekai and animal spirit will be slightly altered.
  • Telepathy:  All Nitari are capable of low-level telepathy, transmitting (but not broadcasting) messages across a large city, and reading a person's mind with their consent.

Hekai

Hekai are the powers gained by Xantroans in the Rite of Illumination.  Osiris's Hekai are triggered and/or guided mainly by constructive/architectural thinking.
  • Biokinesis (Life Manipulation):  Osiris has the ability to manipulate biological matter of any sort for a variety of effects; he can alter the genetic and biological makeup of any living thing, most frequently used for healing others' injuries, or to manipulate plant life.  He cannot produce new lifeforms from nothing, but from the right components (such as the seed of a plant, for example; which he can also manifest by teleporting it from elsewhere) he can accelerate their growth.
  • Hydrokinesis (Water Manipulation):  Ability to telekinetically manipulate water, including heating and freezing.  He can also 'transform' into water (not exactly though, but that's the general effect of it) and teleport when submerged.
  • Energy Manipulation:  While not as powerful as Ahramoz, Osiris has the ability to manipulate energy in various forms, along with the ability to create constructs of exotic energy, and convert such energy to matter (although that is a highly exhausting power to use).  To a lesser extent, he can also transmute elements.
  • Spirit Guidance:  After his resurrection, Osiris gained the power to sense the souls of the recently deceased, thus also allowing him to telepathically communicate with them, and direct them to the afterlife or into reincarnation.  In theory, he is able to trap a soul in Duat, or release them from there, under his own power, but he has yet to use this ability.
He is also able to instinctively know who a specific individual has reincarnated as and/or who their previous lives were.
  • Animal Spirit:  Osiris's semi-corporeal animal spirit usually assumes the shape of an eagle or falcon, when it manifests at all.

Weaknesses

  • Intoxication:  Osiris's personal standards forbid him from using his powers if he is intoxicated, or otherwise not in total control of himself.
  • Magic:  He is vulnerable to some forms of magic, for instance, he was unable to leave Heliopolis (without rapidly weakening and ultimately dying) after his resurrection.  Luckily, Zehuti was able to lift the curse by proxy.

Possessions

  • Silvery battle armor.
  • The Sarcophagus Cube (a device that looks like a puzzle not unlike Rubik's Cube, but traps the holder in a sarcophagus when 'solved'), invented by Setekh.
  • A spear/scepter/scythe through which Osiris's powers can be channeled/focused.
  • Xantroan Sigil Ring.

Trivia

Useful Notes:  [Unknown.]
Theme Song:  [Unknown.]
Quotes:  [Unknown.]
Random Facts:
  • The Hellenes (Ancient Greeks) identified Osiris with Dionysus (god of wine) and Ptah with Hephaestus (god of crafts and creation), but mythological Osiris also has similarities with Persephone (goddess of the seasons) and Hades (god of the afterlife).
  • Mythological Osiris was sometimes associated with the moon, in relation to how the souls of the departed were associated with the stars.  Additionally, it is thought that the events of Osiris being dismembered and reassembled might represent the phases of the moon for the duration of a month's time.
  • Mythologically, Anubis was originally believed to be a child of Seth, but as Seth's popularity diminished, Anubis's fatherhood began to be attributed to Osiris instead.
