Let me start by saying, I've read the rules and regulations here for comicvine, but need a little more insight... Prepare to read a highly insightful, or idiotic, blogish thing.
What constitutes swearing here at comicvine and here in the forums? Are their certain words you can get away with, like the stuff readily available for viewing on the ABC/NBC/CBS? Even ABC Family has some cussing on it now-a-days. PG films let you say the poop substitute at least once. My main concern is, what can I get away with before I get yelled at? Now, when I curse, it is rarely used towards some, that is rude, and I like to go above people's heads instead of dropping the "F bomb", I'm classy like that. However, in today's culture, words and meanings change overnight. You couldn't say the word "thigh" or "breast" in public without a stare of offense, even if you were referring to what cut of the chicken you'd like. When I was a kid the word "Hell" (Which I will use here considering it is the most used of the "cuss" words considering Christian faith considers it a place, that's why I capitalized it) was a big no-no, so was carp (not the fish, just replace r and a), but now-a-days kids get away with it all the time. Now, when using @/5/$ to replace some of those pesky letters.... We all know what the person is saying, so why does it matter if it isn't directed at anyone in a harmful way?
This in no way a criticism of ComicVine, the mods, the admins or anyone else involved. I have questions that I'd like to have clarified a little more. I actually agree with the "no swearing" policy in some aspects. Cussing is the easy way out of an argument and you end up sounding childish anyway. But, sometimes... saying a few of those words, when not directed at someone else, is just the best way to go.
Man, I come off like a jerk in this.... A-Hole would have worked better there....
