@kuma_far: Not really sure why I was included in that post, but since I was, here's my two cents.
Personally, I was neither involved in nor truly care about the incident you're referencing. Obviously, something happened and you didn't like it. That's unfortunate. However, my presence in this thread was simply to show solidarity with my fellow Viners in extending a welcome to anyone from AV who was interested in joining us here. You've made it clear that you are not, so I'm sure you'll understand if I focus my energy and attention on those who might. ^_^
I don't blame you for taking offense to that. I have no horses involved in the race but I do want people to feel welcomed here. I just wanted to point out to both sides that things had gotten a bit hostile. I also wanted to point out to people from your forum that it is ok to run Anime type characters here, there's no rule against it or anything like that.
What they seem to do here to balance things (I'm new here) is put rules on exactly what power level is appropriate for a particular RP. For example Gothic City is limited to "street level" type characters. I sometimes pass through with some of my more powerful characters but they don't tend to loiter and rarely get involved in anything other than a conversation.
Another safeguard (specific to the CVnU) is that, while we don't restrict the power level of any character, we do restrict actions that can affect the setting as a whole. Acts that result in massive destruction need to be approved by the thread creator, or by the CoE if it's a "public" location. We also have an entire process for creating/conquering and maintaining empires within the immediate solar system (if someone wants to create an alien empire outside the solar system or in another dimension/plane of existence, they're free to do whatever). The overarching philosophy is that, whether your character is street-level or sprinkles galaxies on their breakfast cereal, your actions shouldn't impede or deny others from having a good time.
