Also I would suspect vampires in the whole Amazon Basin and up to areas as far north as Guatemala. The Mayans and Aztecs (among others) knew about the creatures in the night, including Camazotz, the Mayan God of Bats, a blood drinking man sized bat whose wings could decapitate a man with ease
