Yes! Better than Walking Dead! 0

ZFW (Zombies of Foreign Wars) CREATOR'S EDGE PRESS Writer: Josh "Bile" Cantrell Artist: Hopskotch Sunday      Yeah, that's right.  I said it in the title.  This book is better than Kirkman's Walking Dead.  I know there are tons of readers and fans out there with the new hit series set to record on their DVR.  I know you may even be recording it while you watch the week's first airing.  I can understand it is good.  I love the comic, I love all things Kirkman, and I get amped about the show.  I w...

Cauliflower for Al Jordan Creator's Edge Press Writer: Chuck Messinger Art: Dario Reyes  I had spoken to Chuck regarding this issue long before it came out.  It actually was more than what I expected.  I had seen the other visceral depictions of the impending 'zombie apocalypse' through the eyes of many creators.  Even Marvel took a stab at cashing in on the Zombie genre; they were the first to tackle the issue regarding a simple question.  "What happens when all the brains and fresh flesh are g...

I Zombie #2 Roberson did a good job picking me up as a reader with his $1 tease premier issue.   Truthfully Mike Allred art was enough to get most people to check out the book.   His style is pretty unique in the industry and has captured my interest since his days of working on the X-Force/Xstatix books.   The story last time introduced us to a cast of new characters and left us with a cliff hanger ending that left us all to speculate exactly where he was going with this title.   Well after re...

X-Men Legacy #237 Second Coming: Chapter 12 The cover of this issue makes the hope of what is going on in the future look very dim.   Another excellent cover by Granov.   This story is unfortunately penciled by Greg Land.   He impressed me again this issue however.   The use of “porno face” on the female characters was kept to a minimum and he only drew a couple ladies in obscure positions.   I did think he made Hope look the same age as Cyclops, which didn’t make much sense.   How old is she n...

New Mutants #14 Second Coming: Chapter 11 I’ve gone on and on about the writing and the art of the individual issues for this story arc, so much that I need to take the time to reflect on the covers.   I don’t know what Adi Granov is doing the digital painting thing that Clayton Crain does or what, but if he can make covers this good I want to see him start to do some interiors on books that I read.   I may not have cared much for the Charlie’s Angels pose that Rogue and Hope are in on the cove...

Uncanny X-Men #525 Second Coming: Chapter 10 I was so busy that I was unable to really pick up books for about a month.   This story arc was the singular reason that I pretty much avoided any Comic related sites, topics, or forums.   I could not have this masterpiece be spoiled for me.   I can’t believe I was successful for 3 weeks.   From the first page, I knew it was worth my quarantine. I was relieved to see that Land didn’t do the art for this book.   Dodson isn’t my absolute favorite, but ...

Hellbound #2 of 3 Second Coming: Revalations Okay, this mission just got very, very weird and infinitely more difficult.   This is the bridging issue for this 3 issue mini tie-in to the Second Coming storyline.   Essentially a team of X-Men, Young X-Men were thrown together to be led by Cannonball on a retrieval mission.   The target was Illyana Rasputin, (a.k.a Magik, a.k.a. Darkchylde), the destination was Limbo, and the risk was evaluated at high.   The team itself consisted of people that n...

X-Factor #206 Second Coming Revelations I have to say that Peter David is the master at writing multiple story plots within the same title.   Time and again the team is separated into groups and has their own individual tasks then get brought back together in seamless ways.   We don’t seem to ever have the issue of his characters being 15 different places in the Marvel Universe at once…except Madrox, but at least that is easily explainable. I continue to be amazed with this book and the charact...

Astonishing X-Men Xenogenisis #2 of 5 I love Warren Ellis.   The art in this book just leave a bad taste in your mouth.   My buddy that usually reads all my comics had enough of trashy-slut, Bratzz Doll Emma Frost in the first issue that he didn’t even want to bother scanning this one.   You can’t just blame Andrews art on this, but for some reason Emma is the only one that is depicted this way in the entire issue.   The writing in this book to me isn’t up to the standards I hold Ellis to, much...

Wolverine Weapon X #14 Aaron continues to be amazing.   He has brought a flavor to Wolverine that has been missed since the days of .   This book is however not centrist to the title character this time around.   This issues focus was on the Deathlocks from the future and how they came to be, but actually one Deathlock in particular. This guy happened to be one twisted individual before he was carted off to death-row.   Recruited for the program he surpasses expectations and becomes the leadin...

Wolverine Origins #49 While Dark Wolverine dealt with Daken’s perspective on recent events, Origins looks at life for his pops after the big battle to rid the world of .   I think that Way did a decent job singing off the loose ends of a story that Loeb had created and he was left to deal with.   I do think that this title had its run and will be glad to see it go.   As good as Way has been with Deadpool and Daken, Jason Aaron just writes a superior Wolverine book right now. Ethics 0

Dark Wolverine #87 This issue deals with the aftermath of the drawn out story arc involving that went on through this title and Wolverine Origins.   Way has used this book very well not only to further Daken’s character, but to also utilize Daken to provide a macabre view on humanity and ethics as a whole.   This issue in particular could be used as an example in most any ethics or philosophy class as an examination into human nature. We find Daken has fled to in order to lick his wounds a...

The Tick #4 I didn’t pick up #3 because the price of $5 an issue is a little steep.   This week however a friend of mine picked up my books and Tick still wasn’t off of my pull-list.   I don’t regret it though.   It was not only hilarious but took a jab at humanities view of the Oceans. Basically there is a huge rainstorm and Arthur takes it upon himself to move game night up a day on the schedule and the tick can’t cope with patrol being bumped on the agenda for a rain delay. Rubber Ducky and ...

S.H.I.E.L.D.   #2 People waited two months to read this issue and I don’t believe they were left wanting.   Getting three Hickman books every other month has been a real treat.   Since he started on Secret Warriors over a year ago he hasn’t disappointed me with a Marvel title yet.   The art in this book is amazing.   There are many dark scenes in the book but there are just as many bright flashes and glows to separate everything.   The story follows Hickman’s style of being very detailed and de...

Secret Warriors #17 This book takes a bit of a detour from the story that we have been reading involving Hydra, the Secret Warriors, and Leviathan.   It was worth the break though to see a meet up of the Howling Commandos and give readers unfamiliar with them a little bit of background on Nick Fury and his trusted friends. The setting through most of the book bounces between a “secret” meeting of the UN Security council personal members and two representatives of the Secret Warriors, and the ge...

Fantastic Four   #580 Hickman has been doing a great job with this title so far.   I think it was nice to continue to set up the main plot while having a little bit of side adventure to keep readers attentions that may have been dissatisfied with the story driven content.   The art in the book is fun and totally suitable for the story.   I didn’t expect or Impossible Man to make an appearance in a FF book, but Hickman made it work. I knew something was up from the beginning though when you see...

Lockjaw and the Pet Avengers Unleashed   #4 of 4 Sadly to say I was actually disappointed with the end of this arc.   They had built it up to seem that it would be so much more awesome than it turned out.   Basically it seemed they ran out of funny banter for Ms Lion and and couldn’t top the ending of their first story arc. We find out the source of the great evil that has invaded the Mythic Beast reality, and get a wholesome lesson about family and friendship.   It is still a fun read but def...

Deadpool #24 I am an avid fan of Deadpool, anybody who has seen my office at work can tell you that.   I however don’t normally do reviews on his books because of his recent popularity boost and the fact that most everybody reads/reviews his titles.   I decided that I need to review Way’s title now because he has proved to be the current “best” Deadpool writer.   The other titles featuring the Merc with a Mouth just fall short to Way’s writing of the character. This issue like the last one does...

Thanos Imperative #1 of 6 I am a little sad to see all the cosmic books ending and becoming the part of one title.   The only benefit is that you save three to six bucks a month.   Getting all of your action in one place is nice, but it doesn’t seem to leave room in the spotlight for many. The cover of this book instantly catches your eye, not only because it is beautiful, but because of who is on it.   I have mentioned for…oh…about a year that I couldn’t believe all this cosmic stuff was happe...

Prince of Power #2 of 4 Pak continues to deliver a fun and entertaining story with Amadeus Cho the new prince of power.   This issue reveals more of what the plot of this mini will actually entail.   We already knew that Cho was seeking a way to locate Hercules (who is absent from Hades the Elysian Fields or Tartarus) and in order to do so he is trying to figure out how to become a god.   There has been a wrench (hammer) thrown into his mission when he has to face off against Thor and have a gr...

Cowboy Ninja Viking #6 This issue is the beginning of the second story arc in the series.   As a second arc it does very little to inform a new reader of what exactly is going on.   I highly recommend picking up the first story arc in trade first, because this is an amazing series but jumping in right now could leave you a bit confused and maybe turn you off of a great book. The creative team is the same so the scribbly art that complements this story so well is still here along with AJ Lieberm...

Amazing new series from the genius of Lindsay 0

The Devil’s Trail Writer: Stephen Lindsay Artist: Jim McMunn Creators Edge Press I have to give props to Stephen Lindsay on this book.   After reading his works like Jesus Hates Zombies, Abe Lincoln Hates Werewolves, and Massive Awesome; I didn’t think that he would even write something like this.   I think that when an artist/writer can put out quality products that are as diverse as his that it leads to fan loyalty and you get to the point where your name on a title will sell the book.   He i...

Blokes Tomb of Horror #2 Virus Comix This is 52 pages jammed pack of gruesome twisted fun.   Again this is an anthology book and some of the stories are better than others as tales are brought to the reader by a number of different creators and artists.   The seven stories in this book cover so much with stories about vampires, zombies, werewolves, necromancers, barbarians, and aliens. Wolfskin: Hundreth Dream #2  This continues to be a great story.  If you were ever a fan of Warren Ellis this book is just as good as Transmetropolitanever was.  The settings are surreal, the pacing of the story is perfect, and after only two issues Ellis has the reader invested heavily into the characters and the plot.  This story joins our part as they move northward to confront the great dark beast.  While on their quest they talk about the different prophecies around the world that discuss h...

Secret Avengers #1  This Book was being pimped by Marvel for almost 2 months.  Everybody was wondering what to expect from this very eclectic bunch of Avengers.    My first thought was..."Isn't Nova in Space?"  Really any way you look at it he should be.  This book alone and Richard Ryders presence make me question the entirety of Marvel 616 continuity.  He is either in space with the Nova Corps or he is chasing Cancerverse Quasar to the fault.  All this does is make me wonder if D&A's cosmi...

Fantastic Four #579  Hickman continues to show us how much of an asset he really is to Marvel.  I say this every so often, but before Hickman was on the book I could have cared less about Marvel's "First Family."   This issue was more set up for the entire War of Four Cities that we are waiting for.  The issue seems to be alot about resetting perspective for Reed Richards, Explorer Supreeme.  I think that there has been a tiny bit of growth for his character as he realizes that everybody else is...

Secret Warriors #16  This was another stellar issue that gives us a deeper look into the organizations that essentially are responsible for orchastrating the Marvel Universe.  Hickman continues to keep me interested and wanting more.  I was stunned when he brought back Baron Strucker, I was in awe at his triple agent cover of Contessa, and amazed that he brought back Viper as the New Madame Hydra.  Well he got me again.  The twist at the end of this almost hurts a little bit.  The further look a...

Asgards Remains 0

Thor #610 Read this one because it was time to see the Asgardian perspective on the fall of Asgard.   Thor is banished no more.   And he has a battle with Clor (Ragnarok) and we see “who is the real deal with a test of lightning and mythic steal.”   (sorry just sounded good to rhyme that.) This was all developmental for the characters primarily as Thor tells Balder why he should remain king.   We see what Volstag and the Warrior Three are up to and get caught up on Kelda and the fate of Bill. Thunderbolts #144 I was kinda scared to see what was gong to happen with a new team taking over the Thunderbolts.   I had predicted that some of the former T-bolts would be rejoining the ranks, but some of the selections for this team just astounded me. Blind Science One-Shot Second Coming Revelations I don’t know who Simon Spurrier is, but I like the cut of his jib.   I am usually cautious when I see a new name headed as the writer for a book about my favorite bunch of Marvel mutants.   It was good enough I’m going to have to check into what else this guy has done. Wolverine Origins #48 This was an ending of a mess that started before Way was on the title.   I think he dealt with it very well.   It was a good open ended conclusion to the battle between Wolverine, Daken, and . is handled and future creators have an out to bring him back, As far as Wolverine and Daken go…Papa spank.   I think things are temporarily settled as we see who the alpha male is and Daken is neutered of the edge he had over his father. Dark Wolverine #86 Even though this story is the result of dealing with something that Loeb invented I am glad that they are trying to deal with this part of the Wolverine Mythos.   I wish the lead up to it didn’t take so long but this was a good issue that addressed a lot of mystery and definitely was a great set up for the conclusion of this story.   The art was really good, I wouldn’t mind seeing more of ’s pencils across the Marvel line. X-Force #27 Second Coming: Chapter 9 This issue was amazing.   Choi is at the top of his game, telling half the story in this issue with no text required.   The opening sequence pages are an all out battle between the X-Men and Bastion’s Nimrod series sentinel squad.   I was also happy to see that they are still treating this like it is a war and there are losses suffered.   Kyle and Yost are among my favorite X-writers and they do a great job with this script.   Second Coming continues to be o...
