Sooooo for the time being no crossover :( thats sad :(
though starting a supergirl series without any ties to arrow/flash/legends will just help it. I mean i love the other series (and am way pumped for Legends *a-very-manly-squeeeeeeee*) but i do think that to appeal to the audiances that supergirl is primarily aimed towards having an arrow/flash connection there from the get-go may not be a good move (well flash to a lesser extent), but developing the series by itself, seeing how it goes and then (if CBS green lights it) crossing them over would be damn cool because a) It would just be frigging cool, b) the "super" family would exist in the CWverse (move aside smallville), and c) it would succed at launching a series without constantly referencing the original materials ala agents of SHIELD (we get it! you guys exist in the same universe as the Avengers! we got it in the first season! please stop going on about it!).

@manuelb132: How does changing his race change his character? if he acts completely the same as he does in the comics (which granted there is a chance he won't) then why does his race matter?

Using this logic, why bother with trying to cast actors who look remotely like the character they are playing? Why even try to draw them the same? We could have one issue of Superman featuring a short, fat bald guy. And the next issue the artist would draw him as a skinny asian guy. As long as he acts the same, it really doesn't matter.

I reeeeeeally just wanted to post a ton of silverage superman comic covers at this point. you know super-fatso, oldman superman, big brain superman, etc... they just turned him into anything they wanted back then :P

..... It took the CW 10 seasons (over half of which were painstakingly repetative and which only worked due to the guest cameos) of Smallville to finally make superman fly...... Supergirl achives this in the first episode... i'm giving points to this series based on that alone (plus its a plane rescue, one of the few scenes which even superman returns couldn't fail at making). It's got that network tv look to it, and part of me does wish that it was taking place in the CW dc universe but i'll give it a watch. plus its nice to see a costume from the house of el which i can actually, you know, dicerne the colours from :P

How dare they do this to Jimmy! how dare they deviate from the source materials so much >: (
I mean what is it with television and film trying to make everything PC now!!!
that guy's not jimmy olsen! no sir! because the jimmy olsen i know and love would never, ever, EVER be portrayed as not wearing a bow tie!!!!!!!
:P
got you guys there didn't I :P
Who cares about Jimmy. I mean I love the character but in the comics the guys been a giant turtle man, a stretching whatsitnot, a variety of other weird super-powered forms/shapes (and lets not forget the subject of many a "superdickery" posts). In the man of steel universe he is apparently now a she. plus jimmy has had other television appearances where he's not been a direct cut-out from the pages, so yes let us have black jimmy now (and then we will assemble a team. a team of multiverse jimmy olsens who band together and raid clark kents batchalor pad and mooch on his generosity and absence :P). So long as the characters core is intact im fine. Also loving the brighter coloured supergirl costume. But i am kinda sad that this is showing on CBS and not CW. Oh alas, my dreams of a super-<insert sex/animal/object word here> title being intigrated into the arrow/flash-verse is not yet a truth :'(
But i don't know how this is going to compete with Gotham (or why DC would allow the networks to put them on at the same time? its just detramental to them) as although i am not the biggest fan of gotham (imho it sort of lost the plot and didn't feel like the pre-batman city i would have imagined) but the show does appear to have a grasp of the casual batman viewership not to mention the criminal proceedual viewership (which i think is the only viewership left on television now... if it all fails, mix it up and make them solve/fight crime :P) so Supergirl is going to have to have something SUPER to add to the table or else lose out to a show that it should not be competing with.

1) yeh i get that one. I've often tried to tell that to my friends who keep on saying superman is dated and unrelatable (different topic for a different forum). Being 'human' does not mean being relatable... hell how can i someone who lives in middle-class western Europe relate to the pain and suffering of people in courtries ruled by harsh dictators? I can feel sympathy for them (which is really what we feel for bruce) but I cant relate to them. Species does not equate relatability. Other characters in the DCU (and hell even batman related characters) are a lot more relatable, hell dick grayson was originaly invented so that young kids reading batman in the 40s could relate to one of the characters. Now having said this I am also aware that in many of his solo titles throughout his run we can relate to batman on occasion, but then we get the batfan problem (especially when said batfans are writting or suggesting ideas) which then destroys that relatability because "batman is da beeeest 4 evr!!!!" and that "humanity" which is within batman gets taken away. Its a problem with inconsitent writing.

2-5) super-batfans.... just that. just that forever with their constant "He's got a plan for everything"... now that excuse just bugs me completely. Batman has a plan to take down the justice league. He has a plan to take down villains he CONTINUOUSLY has to face and yet thats been interpreted as him having a plan to deal with any and all situations. It doesn't. His plans to take down the justice league were shown to be ineffective as they now know how to overcome them, and his plan to take on his villains keep on changing because his villains overcome them or throw him a fast one. He has plans yes, in the same way that ever bloody person on the world has a plan to deal with problems, but he doesnt have a constituacy plan for everything because if he did then why the fuck would he continuously be written as a paranoid guy? And lets not forget they age-old "well if he had like a weeks worth of time to prepare..." argument as a) in any showdown unless you are a edwardian or victorian gentleman challenging someone to a duel you don't get to chose the time, place and date of your fight. you fight right there on the spot. PLUS its always an argument which people just assume that batman is the only one preparing for the fight, hence why i sort of love this sketch http://www.dorkly.com/post/71903/alls-fair-in-league-and-war
