Jeph Loeb WHY? WHY? WHY?

I don't know how you guys feel about this, but I'm gonna say this. Jeph Loeb is an AWFUL writer! Red Hulk? RED HULK?! You call that entertainment?!  He has basically came out and said that he is writing it for 8 year olds. And how is it getting in the top 10 every month? The Long Halloween was the best thing he has ever written. Hush wasn't that bad either. But seriously WHY?! Pleez leave your comments and fellings on this matter.

How does making a Red Hulk make him a bad writer? Have you read the comic?
Posted by Vortex13

Oh my god, who cares? If you don't like the story don't read it. So what if he rights it for 8 year olds theres nothing wrong with that. Get over it it.

@War Killer:
Yes I have. And it's bad!

Returning to the original question

Forgetting quality, he still sells quite well

That is vary true, I read parts of it and now I'm trying to save up enough money to by the TPB, along with the Long Halloween

@Babs:
EXACTLY! Jeph Loeb seems to only write good when it's Batman, everybody else he writes it them anyway he wants with no regard for the way other GOOD writers wrote that character.
Posted by No_Name_
@hero vs. villian: You said his Batman stuff sucked in your video. :(
Posted by hero vs. villian
@Babs:
That ain't me. That's a video that I agree with alot. And he said that Hush sucked not the long halloween.

I disagree, people say Ultimates 3 and Ultimatum were bad, but I have both series' and like them, he is really good when writing Batman, but I believe he's good with Marvel chracters as well

Agreed, plus DD:Yellow and Hulk: Grey were breath-taking. Granted his run on Ultimates 3 wasn't so great, same with Ultimatum, but that doesn't mean he flat out sucks. He's just kind of a hit or miss writer. And you can't blame him, he didn't pen a single bad comic until after his son passed away. And whatever, Hulk might not be the best book right now but Red Hulk is a pretty bad@$$ character with lots of potential for a good future in the Marvel U.

I respect your view and ALL of the other commenters, but I personally feel that everything he has done at marvel is disgraceful. And it sickens me that his books sell more than writers who care about there work like Matt Fraction and Jonathan Hickman.

What don't you like about his writing? (and "It's Bad" isn't an answer)

Loeb is terrible.But I tell you what.For a guy like me who loves actions.He doesn't skimp on it.His storylines don't make much sense at all but you can be damed sure of a slugfest in a Loeb book.

@War Killer:
He has no care for anyone character he writes. Worse than that he also has no regard for anyone's continuity. For example GREY HULK. Totally spits in the face of Peter David, someone who knew who to write, and cared about him and continuity.

What's the big deal about Loeb. I don't read a lot of Marvel but so what, he had a bad run on hulk and Ultimatum. He also made Long Halloween, Dark Victory, Hush, and marvel's colored books i.e. Daredevil Yellow. James Robinson has made Star Man, New Krypton, and BN: Superman yet he has made Cry for Justice. Grant Morrison has made Batman and Robin, All Star Superman, Doom Patrol, Animal Man, Arkham Asylum, and several other great book but has made Batman R.I.P. and Final Crisis. All writers that have made great books ocasionally make bad decision but that doesn't make them crap (except Frank Miller).

There have been many other writers who have done the same thing with characters before

DD yellow was pretty much already written for him.

And do you think that is a good thing for the idustry to have writers who could care less about their work, and publishing bad comics, and expect US to PAY for them?

It's a sandbox, they do what they have to to keep readers interested in the books, and sometimes things need to be changed

True you are

Loebs Batman work is aces. He's the kind of writer that seems to change with each story. Okay Red Hulk, no so great. They can't all be home runs. But I'd say he's one of the better writers in the industry today.
Edited by castleking

to be perfectly honest he is a horrible writer...... has bn for a long time. just b/c he has bn around doesnt mean he can write or that he is a producer in hollywood doesnt give him any real credibility............. having said that if he can sell comics they'll keep giving him work.... sad part you'll shun many long time readers but will also get new readers with little knowledge of history.... basically no one cares about reader loyalty so long as ppl get paid.......

either way their are of million of ppl that can write better coherent stories then most marvel/DC writers........ just look at the fan fic threads their are better writers then you'll find in comic companies  with more knowledge and respect toward character history

Posted by TheSavageAssasin

That video is retarted cuz he may use a couple of villians a couple of times but he doesn't just focus on those characters i mean he had Calender man in The Long Halloween CALENDER MAN for god's sakes and Red Hulk is just a lot of fun not the most like intellegent book but fun and hush was good who cares if you know who the character is it's still good and Hulk:Grey was good and Daredevil:Yellow was good and of course all his batman stuff is good so he messed up woth the red hulk he's in a slump get over it already!

Posted by castleking

you forgot to add world war hulk as part of his crap garbage

There is always a loser who gets lucky and slips in with the winners.  When his time to shine comes, the result is disturbingly shocking.  Everyone wonders "why?".

Loeb is a perfect example of this type of phenomenon.

read any Hulk story by Peter David before you say that

@TheBug:
I'd say he's is what is one of Marvel's biggest creative problems, and one of the industrie's. Ask me, he should just go away and never come back. The guy does treat his job like a 2nd one, with being a hollywood writer, and a screenplay writer.

^ This. I don't care what he does in Uncanny, for as long as he retains Invincible Iron Man at its current level. World's Most Wanted, and the Head that wears the crown, were among the best IM stories I've read in a long time. In conclusion, if he is one of the worst writers that have ever worked for Marvel, but he can also produce a book that good, despite that...So be it. But that would imply he isn't one of the worst in the first place.
