I think the problem here is that most of the DC/Marvel characters you mention are nothing more than rehashs and spinoffs of the central characters in both DCU and MCU.What is the point to having multiple Robins,Batgirls,Spidermen or women. These aren't truly new characters. While some of these are not totally brand new characters I think in terms of Rocketeer,Ghost,The Victories, the Valiant comics roster as it exists now minus the Silver Age Gold Key era add ons. What doyou think about this?

@alton: I understand where you are coming from. i think we should have a mix of both type of characters. Some new rehashes and other completely new characters

There will always be new characters since people like to use their imaginations.

yes it adds more things to read can you imagine if DC decided to stop making new characters after there first 10 heroes it would be unintresting new characters means new plots and stories

Actually, no. How many characters are there between Marvel and DC alone? Many, have been quite forgotten.

A perfect example is Wonder Man. This guy when first created, was a hair shy of Thor in terms of strength. He has devolved into...what? An extra in Avengers occasionally?

I mean, an occasional new character is cool. But I say slow it down some and work on the quality of the newly created characters.

except when the editors force the writers to restrain those imaginations and they end up quiting the books

I think that writers should be a lot better to use old and forgotten characters dust them off and use them well instead of creating new characters we real don't need. There is a lot of old "lame", forgotten, non used characters that if changed and updated could work fine in the different stories.

Yes, I would like to see more charactor creation .. I understand that they will most likely come out of another title, maybe starting a secondary Charactor or maybe a villian at first, for Example Talon is out of the Bat title however you can create his own story and cast and be speprate from the bat-family and still get a good core following of readers.

I agree that characters who were thrown to the side should have a chance to be re written better the second time around because one of the issues I do have with new characters being created is that sometimes the new characters would be a major part of the story, but then once they served their purpose, they are thrown out to the curb.

Do you think the same thing will happen to the dusting off of Six Gun Gorilla? That poor guy disappeared for decades the first time as I understand it!

If it was up to me.... I would make Marvel and DC like Game of Thrones. No one is safe. Once a character dies they're gone. Then you bring on someone new...... So yes they should keep on making new characters. That's just my dumb opinion......

In New 52, both relaunches of old characters and new characters are not lasting long. Maybe a better model is the occasional graphic novel for these less popular characters. Dc obviously has not yet given up since we are getting a relaunch of the Green Team last seen in the 1970s and new characters in the Movement.
