I agree that it's not great although I somewhat like it. I was never a huge fan of the t shirt and jeans, always thought that he needed some sort of suit.
I don't have an issue with certain heroes killing villains and bad guys but if these killings are known to the public then they shouldn't be Avengers. These are Earths Mightiest Heroes. They are supposed to be looked up to and held as examples for what a hero is supposed to be. This can't be if they are known killers.
A villain strikes NYC from orbit, killing millions in the process. The Avengers retaliate and it ends in the death of this villain. You believe that their status as "Earth's Mightiest Heroes" should be revoked because they killed him as opposed to imprisoning him for the rest of his existence, with the possibility that he could escape and repeat his actions?
If he just ended up being killed then it's fine but if The Avengers decided that once they go and confront this villain they would kill him then they would no longer be the Avengers. Yes, I think that them killing this villain is unacceptable. They have decided that the right thing to do is to kill a killer for killing. Whats to stop another hero from looking at them as killers and deciding to kill them for being killers.
