An above average adaptation. 0

This is a decent adaption of the second Blade movie. It didn't suffer much from the requisite contraction of the original script to make it fit the graphic novel format. The great Steve Gerber provided nice writing (based on David Goyer's screenplay), a few cuts above the average by-the-numbers movie to comic work readers generally see.The art by Alberto Ponticelli appealed to me; although he has a sketchy style, he did a fine job depicting the individualized characters. He, along with colors ...

Prelude to the movie is not bad, but not great 0

This special starring Blade was released by Marvel to coincide with the 1998 release of the movie "Blade". Storywise, it does an adequate job fitting into the world established in the film, providing some decent teases for (what was at the time of publication) the upcoming movie. The plot and writing by Marc Anderyko was fine, and the dialogue worked. The world of the movie Blade was introduced nicely with some decent vampire killing scenes. And we start to get and idea of the social structur...

The wheels start coming off 0

This offbeat, but intriguing premise for the return of the Punisher has taken a turn for the worse with indications that the Punisher's origin is being ret-conned to include supernatural causes. I like many comics with a supernatural bent, but here, that's shoehorned into the Punisher's background, not cleanly merging with the character's street-level aspects. The writing was adequate, but the art was disappointing, as Bernie Wrightson's usually brilliant pencils were overwhelmed by Jimmy Palmiot...

Ordinarily, I'm not a reader of the Punisher. My reason for picking up this mini-series is that Daimon Hellstrom, who makes a cameo in this issue, is a character whose appearances I collect. I don't dislike the Punisher, I'm just not a fan. This continues the offbeat, but somewhat intriguing premise for the return of the Punisher. But the jury's still out as to how well this marriage will work. The writing was adequate, but the art was disappointing, as Bernie Wrightson's usually brilliant pencils...

Simply awful 2

KITTY PRYDE, AGENT OF S.H.I.E.L.D. is easily one of the worst comic mini-series I have ever read.  It is ridiculous from start to the finish of the final issue.  Apparently, someone came up with the high concept that became the title of this book, and nobody had the good sense to say, "forget it; it's a terrible idea that makes no sense."  But produce they did, propping up its weak premise with one ludicrous plot point after another, without making it interesting enough to allow the reader to ig...
