Spider-Woman has superhuman strength, clings to walls, shoots venom, high concentration of pheromones... Black Widow is essentially a world class athlete with gadgets... Batman has more in common with Black Widow.

Haven't you watched the Motion Comic series on Spider-Woman? Black Widow is actually in it... lol...

If you google Spider-Woman, yeah her history has been a bit of a mess... but it's a dark mess which the entire Dark Knight series is based on... dark, twisted, etc...

Marvel is obviously still trying to invest in her. Maybe it's because they've had this character since 1977. I'll admit both Black Widow and Spider-Woman have this untrusting sexpot aspect to them, but the longest story lines on Spider-Woman have been with her as a detective. But you could use your same analysis disregarding most superheroes... who's this guy... "lives with duality... parents died... raised by others... has an occupation when he really doesn't need one... described as dark hair with blue eyes..." lol... superman, batman, spiderman...

"basically Black Widow but different outfit"??????

I guess I don't get it... this is Comic Vine... I figure you're a comic book fan... Saying Black Widow is the same as Spider-Woman is like saying Captain America and Super Man are the same person!

Wish you wouldn't comment if you have no clue about super hero content and history... the two women are nothing alike and have no similar powers...

I would disagree with you on many MANY fronts...

1. The Iconic reference I was making, if you read carefully, was on her OUTFIT. Unlike so many superhero characters, her outfit literally hasn't changed one iota. Sure, there was the Julia Carpenter version and various other versions, but the Jessica Drew red suit literally has been around for 50 years! Young comic book readers have been reacquainted with her in The New Avengers, Avengers and her recent book series and graphic art video series.

2. There isn't a problem with her name. The was a movie called SUPER GIRL and she WAS Superman knock off.

3. General public needs to be fed EVERYTHING... I mean, who ever thought someone would make a movie out of BATTLESHIP, yet it's some ship from space in the ocean??? And we already have a Spiderman prequel??? But I'm into it... because I like seeing the storylines kept alive...

4. Her powers are formidable... We need to see physically aggressive female heroes... even though I love, love, love She-Hulk, how she would render CGI is questionable. You can't really do Scarlet Witch without Vision... and Wasp is alright, but I still think Spider-Woman out ranks her even on a google search. Spider-Woman is in the 10 ten of well known female superheroes...

5. You think there's Spider-Woman/Spider-Man confusion? How about all the folks going to see The Avengers thinking it's about 3 British investigators... LOL...

OKAY FOLKS... looking to TOTALLY BLOW UP this conversation...

I started a FAN CAMPAIGN PAGE for miss Jessica Drew aka SPIDER-WOMAN.

We KNOW there will most likely be an AVENGERS movie SEQUEL... and with that, some characters may not return (I'm thinking Scarlet Jo may not, she's already not committing to Iron Man 3) and we know how Hollywood even the comic book industry is more willing to take on male superhero characters over female (case in point, no Wonder Woman movie... and that has SO much potential)...

So, if you look at the Avenger Marvel Universe... we have: Scarlet Witch, Wasp, Mockingbird, various Ms. Marvels, She-Hulk and some more... but for the last few years SPIDER-WOMAN has come to the forefront.

Now, Jessica Drew/Spider-Woman does have her issues... her character background has had a varying storylines... no quaint next door neighbors to think of... but then again, she's one of the only female Avengers who's character is visually ICONIC (Her costume literally has not changed, except for those other incarnations) and her storyline isn't so ridged that it can't be messed with a bit. Hollywood loves taking those liberties. She also, visually, can reflect many different kind of actresses... she could be American, European... Caucasian, Latina, Asian, Eurasian...
