I would love this. But, I think it would be effective even to just have Bruce Wayne talk to Oliver Queen in a business meeting or something. Even a handshake or one line exchange would go very far. Doesn't have to be full-blown Green Arrow in the Justice League.

I am disappointed that so many people who are so passionate about an artform like comics - one that, let's face it, is RIPE for the picking in dorkdom - would be so vociferous about a Spider-Man musical. Others here said it best: it depends entirely on whether the musical is good. For instance, a Green Lantern movie sounded like it would be a great idea, right?   Does the upcoming Ryan Reynolds (likely) travesty mean we shouldn't have a Green Lantern movie? Of course not. I'd go so far as to say it looks "cheesier" than this musical.

How can the same people that attend conventions where 45 year-old men with guts the size of basketballs walking around pretending to be a superhero like Batman, have the audacity to suggest that musicals are "cheesy"? These are often many of the same men and women who LARP (live-action role-play) shouting "LIGHTNING BOLT!" in wooded areas with others. But, somebody busting out into a song - a centuries' old form of expression - within a story context? Nah. That stuff's for DORKS, right? And certainly not "many other men", as the disappointingly oafish line in the column read.

I attend those conventions, as well, and I see the huge Asian kid dressed as Naruto and the short, skinny white kid raising the Mjolnir. But, in addition, I have been a career opera singer for ten years so I can understand both of these points of view. But let's be fair here. I feel like Mr. Elfring is suggesting Sweeney Todd, West Side Story, Little Shop of Horrors - all garbage; "cheesy" stuff that couldn't possibly be enjoyed by right-minded comic book readers, right? Comics don't have the capacity to be cheesy and awful? HA! I got two words for you: CLONE SAGA.

The point I'm making is that I know I hate feeling judged by people who think comics are for little kids when we all know the truth about how intelligent and mature they can be - not to mention amazing pieces of visual art. So let's extend that same open-mindedness we wish others had when it comes to musicals or fans of musicals. This Spider-Man show may very well be terrible (and by most accounts of my friends in the business, it's pretty bad), but, much like the films Batman and Robin, Spawn, Judge Dredd and - quite possibly - the Green Lantern, we can't fault the medium for a poorly executed outing.

Thanks!
