Gambit1024's Top 100 Best Comic Book Superheroes 2011

Please note that this is all my opinion. Don't like it? Don't read it. I'm almost strictly a Marvel/DC reader, so there will be next to no Vertigo, Top Cow, Image, Wildstorm characters on this list. The very few nonMarvel/DC characters on this list are out of respect for how long they've been around and if they changed anything in any way.

Part of the reason I'm doing this now is because will be involved in Comic Vine's Top 100 Superheroes list co-representing the Marvel characters. I'm almost positive that half of the characters on this list won't be on there, so this is my little tribute to them right here.

My definition of a superhero is "a being that saves innocents while doing/fighting things that can't be done/fought in reality". This list is in "unofficial" order from best to... not the best but still cool anyway?

  1. Superman

  Duh. If you know me, you'd know Superman is my favorite. I shouldn't have to explain why he's the best. Without him, the other 99 would be nothing.

  2. Batman

  Because he's Batman. Again, I don't have to tell you why he's awesome. He just is.

• 

  3. Spider-Man

  Without Spider-Man, Raimi's movie would've never come out in 2002. Without that movie, I would've never got into comic books. The original teenage superhero, Spidey is Marvel's best superhero, and 3rd best altogether.

  4. Wolverine

  He's everywhere for a reason. Yeah, I'll admit that he's not the best X-Man and far from best Avenger, but as a character he's one of the best ever created. Who would've thought a dude who's super power is growing claws would be so damn cool?

• 

  5. Wonder Woman

  Yeah, I've said some rotten things about her in the past, but that's because nobody knows how to write her. She was the first female to fight the good fight and is certainly on par with the likes of Superman and Batman.

• 

  6. Captain America

  The best Avenger. The best patriotic superhero. Marvel's Superman character. Cap is awesome and here's to 80+ more years.

  7. Daredevil

  Love Daredevil. Love his origin. Love everything about him. One of the first superhero with disabilities. DD's the man.

• 

  8. Hulk

  As annoying as I find him right now, he was so awesome since his creation in the 60's. Planet Hulk especially changed my mind about him. An awesome character.

  9. Wally West

  The best Flash. Nuff said.

• 

  10. Kyle Rayner

  The best Green Lantern. Hal, John, and Guy can suck it compared to Kyle.

• 

  11. Dick Grayson

  Not the best Robin, but he's my favorite. The "superhero" of all Batman's kids.

• 

  12. Iron Man

  Tony was such a douche during Civil War, but I love the man's charisma.

• 

  13. Thor

  Goes to extreme lengths to save a race his elders would only refer to as "inferior".

• 

  14. Rorschach

  The best character in Alan Moore's Watchmen. He's noble enough to stand up to a virtual god.

• 

  15. Cyclops

  Lead an entire race and without him, mutantkind may have well been extinct. Way to go, Cyke.

• 

  16. Barbara Gordon

  Not as Batgirl, but as Oracle. She loves the job and will help even when she's wheelchair bound.

• 

  17. Thing

  Marvel's original badass. The family aspect of the FF would be nothing without him.

• 

  18. Green Arrow

  The first superhero to really "stick it to the man". It's a damn shame they kind of ruined him in the DCnU

• 

  19. Tim Drake

  The best Robin.

• 

  20. Nick Fury

  Betrayed his own government to help it. Takes some big cohones to do what he did. Great character too.

• 

  21. Spawn (Simmons)

  He was the 90's. That's it.

• 

  22. Doctor Strange

  The sorcerer supreme. Not that damn Voodoo guy.

• 

  23. Silver Surfer

  One of my favorite "alien alone in the universe" characters. SS is awesome.

• 

  24. Storm

  True, she's been kind of doing a whole bunch of nothing lately, but whever she does something, it's actually pretty cool.

• 

  25. Kitty Pryde

  Love Kitty. Anyone who doesn't should burn.

• 

  26. Barry Allen

  Without him, there'd be no Wally. I hate that he gets a bad rap because he's the "main Flash" right now, but it ain't his fault.

• 

  27. Billy Batson

  SHAZAM! Billy, can you get your own series and kick Black Adam's ass again?

• 

  28. Cable

  Saved Hope, thus saving mutant kind. Cable sacrificed pretty much everything for her. Noble sob.

• 

  29. Black Panther

  The first black superhero and continues to do awesome since the 60's. Of course he's in the top 30.

• 

  30. Bucky Barnes

  While he's only been back for a little amount of time and possibly dead as of now, he's done a sh*t load of good while he's been here. Give him another couple of years, and I'll put him in the top 15.

  31. Professor X

  No Charles, no X-Men. Simple as that. Like Barry Allen, it sucks that he's getting a bad rap too. He's the MLK of mutants. Give him props!

  32. Beast

  Hank is a great character and smart to boot. My favorite part about him is that even though he hates the animal he's become, he continues to do whatever he can to do his part in the hero community either as an Avenger or an X-Man.

  33. Aquaman

  Screw anyone who says different, Aquaman is awesome.

• 

  34. Booster Gold

  I only started to like him somewhat recently, and he's only getting cooler to me at this point.

  35. Ted Kord

  Like Booster, Kord's only recently grown on me. Too bad he died before I started getting into him.

• 

  36. Hank Pym

  Hank is my favorite Avenger. But as a standalone superhero, he's not Cap, Iron Man or Thor. Still, I love the dude. When Reed's got a problem, he calls this guy, not Stark. And he called him a bitch!

  37. Namor

  Subby is always so angry/passionate. I love his attitude.

• 

  38. Emma Frost

  I hated Emma. Hated her. But over time, she's grown on me and I have The Dark Huntress to thank for my almost sudden interest in her. Thanks TDH!

  39. Nightcrawler

  Kurt is... Ok, the religious characters are hit or miss to me, and he's certainly a hit. RIP Nightcrawler. Come back soon.

  40. Colossus

  Not Colossonaut. Colossus. Piotr and I have a lot of things in common other than the fact he can turn into steel.

  41. Eric O'Grady

  Oh, the things I'd do as Ant-Man.. Wait! He's already done them! O'Grady <3

• 

  42. Invisible Woman

  The first woman to make a statement in Marvel. She's also the most powerful. Yeah, she's badass.

• 

  43. Kon-El

  Really like Superboy. I need him to be just as involved as Superman is in the her community if he wants to rank higher.

• 

  44. Human Torch

  RIP Johnny (although you'll probably be back within the decade). You're my favorite FF member, but that doesn't make you the best. Flame on anyways!

  46. Power Girl

  PG <3 It's a shame she's been knocked down to Mr. Terrific's girlfriend :/

  47. Mr. Fantastic

  Reed! You're a brilliant man, ok dad, but please treat Sue better than Namor!

• 

  48. Supergirl

  Didn't like her until that Superman/Batman story. We all know that one. Let her do something worth noting before she ranks up.

  49. Carol Danvers

  I like Ms. Marvel, I really do. So much so that I think she's Marvel's equivalent to WW. But please God do something with her!

  50. Deadpool

  Wade :D I'm sorry that you still don't have a movie yet, but I believe in you.

• 

  51. Blade

  His movie was the very first superhero movie I ever saw. Weird, eh?

• 

  52. Hawkeye

  Clint's proved that he can be on a team with a god and a living legend. Work on your attitude a little bit and you can rank higher.

  53. Elongated Man

  Only reason he's up this far is because he's a really devoted husband. So much so, he did all that stuff he did in 52. I gotta give him props for it.

  54. She-Hulk

  She-Hulk, you were so cool! Where did you go?

  55. Black Widow

  Natalia. You're an epic spy, but your no Nick Fury.

• 

  56. Black Bolt

  King of the Inhumans. And for good reason.

• 

  57. Moon Knight

  I dig this guy. Give him more to do. And by that I mean don't let Bendis write hi-- Why?!

  58. Iceman

  He should be in the top 25, but NOBODY EVER GIVES HIM ANYTHING TO DO!
