Okay so I'm gonna try to do this in one sweep rather than separate them. Here's some previews for a few of the Image comics coming out this week. Keep in mind where Image is coming from. What I like about them is that they have such a variety of material that they put out. It's not all just superheroes. They put out a lot of hidden gems that sometimes get overlooked. Don't get me wrong, I love the superhero comics but sometimes I like checking out something different.
Okay first is Casanova written by Matt Fraction. This guy has been putting out some really good stuff over at Marvel. He's getting bigger and bigger so do yourself a favor and check out his non-Marvel stuff:
story MATT FRACTION, art FABIO MOON, cover GABRIEL BA
An all-new storyline drawn by the stunning FÁBIO MOON ignites here as
CASANOVA returns with the perfect jumping-on point for new readers.
What terrible truth lurks inside of Dokkktor Klockhammer’s horror
hospital? How much time passes on page 11? Who’s the stone-cold fox
behind the stick of that sick assault aircraft from the future? Do
all women from the future look like that? We hope so -- because
that’s where we’re spending all our tomorrows. Besides, only a
girl from the future would dare ask...
WHEN IS CASANOVA QUINN?
Dynamo 5 is next. I know there's some readers of this here. Another take on superheroes and not tied to the complex histories of a full superhero Universe:
DYNAMO 5 #6
story JAY FAERBER, art & cover MAHMUD A. ASRAR & RON RILEY
32 PAGES, FC, $3.50
Chrysalis and her offspring have got Maddie backed into a corner as
they reveal even more secrets about Captain Dynamo, which leads
Maddie to take desperate measures. Meanwhile, F.L.A.G. agent Augie
Ford makes an offer to someone on the Dynamo 5 team… but can
Augie be trusted?
This next one falls into the "something different" category.
story, art & cover ANDI WATSON
64 PAGES, BW, $5.99
“GLISTER BUTTERWORTH AND THE HAUNTED TEAPOT”
From the writer of DC MINX graphic novel CLUBBING, the Eisner and
Harvey-nominated creator’s new series follows the adventures of
Glister, a girl who’s a magnet for the weird and unusual. Ghost
writers back from the dead, upset houses who can change appearance, a
Toll Troll in the wishing well, unscrupulous antiquarian ex-
wrestlers, and a misplaced Sphinx are just some the oddities she
encounters in the self-contained, all-ages stories.
Includes a new SKELETON KEY back-up.
And for you art fans:
art & cover SCOTT MORSE
400 PAGES, FC, $39.99
Award-winning storyteller Scott Morse’s SCRAP METTLE is the
culmination of every spare moment spent away from the creation of his
graphic novels and his duties at Pixar. This book is the reservoir of
the products of a mind that won’t empty of its ideas.
SCRAP METTLE, a gargantuan volume of both electrifying images and
smaller, personal thoughts, is a must-have for any admirer of
sketching and painting, and a sure favorite of any follower of the
retro pop art scene.
