@Fuchsia_Nightingale: I usually don't like third-person shooters, but I've enjoyed Gears of War & Ghost Recon, so if it's good enough I could like it. I should probably find a demo or something. I hear it's quite scary. I also made the mistake of seeing a video of that eyeball thing, I believe from the second game?
@lykopis: I'd hope for deals, do you want shirts, it's what they sell the most of
Go for guys like Punk, cause you don't want a shirt of a guy who's gonna be irrelevant in two weeks lol
True -- I got Punk last year but I am thinking I should have gone for Cena. I'll pick up both although it would be frakking sweet if I could get something with AJ.
Heheh. Well that explains her, though not your interest.
So....what made you start watching? What makes you keep watching? What would you say if you were trying to convince me to watch? (and @lykopis feel free to join in on that one)
I like it for the same reason I like comics, movies etc You get to see intriguing story involving characters with outstanding personalities and high level athleticism
@Fuchsia_Nightingale:I remember growing up, hearing about it, it was as if people were surprised to find out that things were "fake." I therefore, many years back, formed the impression that pro wrestling was pretending to be realistic and just didn't do a good job of it. But to hear you (and another friend of mine, who apparently just started watching it because of his roommates) tell it, it's a lot more like an over-the-top soap opera with a slapstick level of violence added to it. That about right?
@akbogert: The outcomes are predetermined, but the risk is real, it takes alot of talent to pull off moves safety. There's good and bad to it, just like anything else
@Fuchsia_Nightingale: WOW. That strikes me as an incredible amount of time and money to invest. Do you try to watch all of that stuff, or do you pick and choose depending on your availability and funds?
@akbogert: I use to try , but after the first two I'm burned out lol I wait for PPVS to come out on dvd for 15 bucks, and if there good lol WWE is not the only company there are hundreds not all televised, Total NonStop Action is on Thursdays, trying to get back into that, plus the indys like Ring of Honor or Chikara Pro or New Japan Pro Wrestling that you can see online
@akbogert: I cant tell ya, people have different taste
I got Lyly into it lol
Once you learn the extreme difficulty in performing the moves on each other and the very real risk of severe and lasting injury, it's kind of humbling. While the story is fun to follow, appreciating the strength and skill required and further to that, the trust each athlete places in each other to be the best while ensuring as much safety as possible, it's easy to see past the exaggerated slaps and stomping of the feet to accentuate hits.
Of course there are people like our Fuchsia who is a fountain of knowledge on the subject who puts a real connoisseur's interpretation out to n00bs like me. It's interesting to note who are fans of wrestling on ComicVine. Plus, there is NXT (which is like the lower tier group for WWE and their farm stars) and that's been really eye-opening.
