You can create 10 Newspapers per user and can create them based on a user, a # tag or a list. It displays all links posted by those included in the feeds (which explains the Engadget link, tweeted by Jeff) and features youtube videos and Live Streams. I think it's a pretty cool little app, thanks to Stephen Fry for drawing my attention to it.
As I was looking through the Waterstones book shop in the Manchester Arndale Shopping centre this past Saturday (looking for the Peter Parker, Spider-Man: Back in Black volume, after enjoying Spider-Man: Back in Black, incidentally, they didn't have it in, but I digress), I remembered an interest I had recently in wanting to buy some philosophy books as research for a website I want to create.
So over to the Philosophy section I went and found these two books. The mere existence of them prompted me to buy them straight away. Their tag-lines on the back reads:
Why doesn't Batman just kill the Joker and end everyone's misery? Can we hold the Joker morally responsible for his actions? Is Batman better than Superman? If everyone followed Batman's example, would Gotham be a better place? and Are cyborgs our friends or our enemies? Was it morally right for Skynet to nuke us? Is John Connor free to choose to defend humanity, or not? Is Judgement Day inevitable?
This seems to be completely my cup of tea, I could read people's opinions on this sort of thing for hours, which is why I joined Comic Vine in the first place. Under that there's a description of what's going on in the book and under that are who's involved in it.
Writing for these books are associate professors and assistant professors but the series editor William Irwin, a professor of philosophy (King's College, Pennsylvania) has written on them all. And just by reading who has previously worked on what, "all" means:
The Matrix and Philosophy
Watchmen and Philosophy
Star Wars and Philosophy
Star Trek and Philosophy
Metallica and Philosophy
and a lot more.
So once I've read these books (I've not even started on them and I'm that excited by them) and I'm happy with the content in them I'm going to find, buy and read at the very least the Matrix and Watchmen books. Just wanted to put across how great I think it is that someone has even put the time into writing this kind of book. The one thing that would make a great "and Philosophy" book that I haven't found proof of would be the Ghost in the Shell anime and manga, I'll certainly be looking across the internet to see if it also exists. Thanks for reading.
Batmen of All Nations100% Every country should have its own Batman. Take your pick. You'll be re-located and get your own silly costume based on Batman. If you're lucky, you just might be able to meet the man himself.
Mystery, Inc. Time to celebrate. Break out the Scooby Snacks. You now get to be one of the "meddling kids" and help stop all those spooky dudes that like to play dress up. And just maybe they'll let you drive the Mystery Machine too.
Gotham City Police Department You've joined the proud men and women of the G.C.P.D. Those are some dirty streets that need some serious cleaning. Working together, you can help fight evil and write parking tickets. You also get your own gun! Just steer clear of any purple dressed clowns.
Damage Control Damage Control. You know there's going to be job security with all the superheroes smashing everything. If you don't mind getting your hands dirty or wearing a hard hat, this is the place for you.
That is fine with me, I'll become the English Batman! Captain Britain has nothing on me.
Wolverine100% Face it bub, you're the best there is at what you do...that must mean you are THE quiz taker. Despite being covered in hair, you somehow are able to attract the ladies. Snikt!
Moon Knight You are one bad mutha.' Unfortunately, you're a little crazy sometimes. Rich playboy, taxi cab driver, super hero, take your pick.
Superman You are da Man of heroes. Super strength, super speed, super...ego? Yeah, you know you're gonna tell all your friends how super you are. This quiz proves it.
Daredevil You are Daredevil. Whether you're spending your time as a crimefighter, lawyer, husband, kingpin of Hell's Kitchen, etc, there's always fun and excitement in your life.
Travel the world, learn languages, fighting styles, fall in love with 153 different women but then they get killed. And then forget it all. At least I don't have any bastard children running around... right?
Bizarro World100% Me love having not to write this non-description. It is so much fun. No one on Bizarro world talks like this. They are all so smart. You should stay here forever and make friends with everyone. Bizarro World is not stupid.
Xavier Institute for Higher Learning Haha! You're in school. Pretty people with awesome super powers with a dash of teen angst. You lucked out. Now get to class! Your next class is the Effect of the X-Gene on Microbiology 202. Good luck.
Gorilla City Gorilla Grodd's hometown. It's like Planet of the Apes but more technologier. Gorilla City is one of those "please don't come here" type of places. Except, I see heroes visiting all the time... What a bunch of dirty hypocrites!
Springfield Duh duhduh duduh duh duh dududududuh. That's how you're supposed to sing the song. Welcome to Springfield, . There's so much stuff to do and see, but I'm sure you probably just hang out with Comic Book Guy and just talk about how everything is the worst thing ever.
Donna Troy100% Donna Troy has had many different lives. That could translate into lots of experience.
Kitty Pryde Tough, smart, and caring, Kitty is loyal through and through. She will let her hair down and show you how to party. Just don't do her wrong or she'll use her ninja-moves on you.
Marvel Girl You're into sexy red heads. Marvel girl is young and charismatic. She's from the future too!
Lyja Lyja is from out of town...way out of town. Lyja has definitely been around the block...and the galaxy. With her shape-shifting abilities, she can give you a night you'll never forget. Hope you like the color green.
Moonraker100% You're Moonraker! Like the movie! You were a member of the oh so memorable Force Works! Well, you really didn't join, you forced your way in with your time control ability.
Foreigner You're Foreigner! No, not the band, but you were married to Silver Sable once, that's pretty awesome. You're a merc with no special powers. Congrats?
Bloodhawk Face it Xi'an, you hit the jackpot! Bloodhawk! YES! Like the future? How about 2099? I hope you answered yes because you have no choice otherwise! You were a member of X-Men 2099 and kind of creepy looking. Luckily, the rest of your team wasn't a bunch of lookers either.
D-Man Oh, you're one of those "funny" ha-ha characters? Well at least the rest of us aren't ex-wrestlers turned superheroes with no originality in costume design... (Except for J2) You're D-Man. Why you still exist and G'Nort from the Green Lantern Corps doesn't is a question that will never be answered.
I don't even now who this guy is, but time control has got to be pretty useful.
And that does it for the quizzes, hopefully I'll make my own in the future!
