Mark Miller has announced The Fantastic Four reboot film will be based in the same universe as the X-men films.

Here's the article

Comic book guru Mark Millar has revealed that the planned Fantastic Four movie reboot will occupy the same cinematic universe as the current X-Men movies.

The author of Kick-Ass, who works as a creative consultant for 20th Century Fox, told SFXthat fans could expect to see the Four share the screen with characters from the X-Men films.

"Without question I think you have to see some of these guys showing up in each other's movies," he declared.

"I think the most exciting thing in superhero movies, until The Avengers came along, was when Nick Fury showed up in Iron Man. Even though it was a guy with an eye patch it was really cool - and I expect we will see more of that."

And he admitted that the previous Fantastic Four movie was "not very good", but is convinced he has the secret to success for the reboot.

"For the new one, all they have to do is make it great. It sounds obvious and it is," he explained.

"Sam Raimi gave us a great Spider-Man. Christopher Nolan gave us a great Batman. So a brilliant director is probably the most important thing for a great Fantastic Four.

"Tim Story was seen as an odd choice for Fantastic Four, but when you have a Josh Trank you know you are in safe hands."

Trank, who is helming the new Fantastic Four, is reported to be targeting a 2015 release.

So I guess that makes them able to do Franklin Richards as he is a mutant,

So what are your thoughts, what would be your ideal crossover movie.

Not sure how I feel about this. The Fantastic Four are supposed to be the first, premier Marvel superhero team. It seems strange for them to come after the X-Men. And I'm not sure what the point of having a second interconnected MCU is. Oh and I'm not a fan of Mark Millar at all. I find him kind of pretentious and overrated.

Maybe it's to set up Franklin Richards for the X-men movies? He is a mutant after all.

isn't that exactly what the OP said ? :D

@flazam: Well they are... radioactively mutated if that counts <.>

@the_good_loser: Yes but they're not natural born mutants. There's a fine line in distinguishing these things :P

well they could be considered the first publicly adored team. The x-men were kept a secret and were going to be blown up on an island so no one would know about them lol.

Just like Namor was called the first mutant for a while, even though Appocolypse is clearly older than him

Fair points I guess. But the integration into the X universe is a tricky one to be sure.

Per Millar himself:

"Note to web journos: FF & X-Men are NOT crossing over. Existing in shared universe does NOT mean a crossover movie, excitable ones..."

I'm glad of that news. An X-Men/Fantastic Four movie wouldn't work IMO. I take it there'll just be references to the X-Men and mutants in general in the film.

I think this wouldn't work unless they found some way to slightly mention the Fantastic Four and the X-Men's presence within their own universes. For example, they could have Reed Richards briefly show up in an X-Men movie, but not really meeting the X-Men just yet or the Fantastic Four movies could briefly mention the mutant phenomena, but not have the X-Men really show up. Therefore, this would set up a meeting between the X-Men and the Fantastic Four while alerting the audience that they are in the same universe.

Hmm. I wonder how they'll make it clear that they're in the same universe then.

rumor is that the after credits scene in DoFP will link X-men and Fantastic Four in some way

Edited by Tyrus

Fox could have done this years ago and it's just embarrassing for them to try it now. I find it funny how Mark Millar and Bryan Singer think that their "Shared Universe" is in the leagues of Marvel Studios and DC/Warner Bros :P

I didn't know it was possible for me to be less interested in an F4 reboot, but there ya go.

@lvenger: I think they are rebooting after DOFP, hopefully they are.

...Why?

Edited by gor724

@flazam: Do you know what their next step is after DOFP?

Posted by flazam

@gor724: A strong rumor is Apocalypse will be introduced into the X-men movie franchise, the like hood is he will be brought to the present as a result of the DOFP time-travel, I imagine he will appear at the post credit scene of DOFP

I didn't know that they can ruin the cinematic adaption of F4 even more but here it is.

Edited by flazam

@tdk_1997: No they said the reboot not the orginals

Posted by TDK_1997

@flazam: I know that they will be rebooting everythiing but even with the reboot they aren't starting very well.

I just really wish Marvel would by the Rights back from Fox.. I've literally lost all faith in any Fox CBM.. It's like they're trying so hard to play catch up that they fall flat on their face ! DC is trying to get back up and bull rush Speed Force their way to the finish line before Marvel can "even Think" to raise their last step and cross it...... But fox... Fox is going 0 to negative infinity fast !

Wait.. Let me take that back just a little .. Amazing Spider Man 2 has promise... But that's it !

This.

If Marvel looked back I think they would have chosen to wait with the movies until they could own all of their stories and characters.

You pepole actually think that the X-Men and Avengers could fit in a shared cinematic universe? HA they can barely fit in a comic one.

I never thought the X-men and Avengers would fit. But I thought that the fantastic four would fit in the avengers cinematic universe.

Never said they would work in the same movie, but mutants could.

No they couldn't, it didn't make sense that SHIELD/Avengers didn't help out in Iron Man 3 it would just be timesing that by a thousand if they decided to introduce all these insanely powered mutants in to the world
