Age of X = House of M...0_o

Right let me just get this off my chest to start with, I used to be an x-man fan, But I am talking old school X-men / X-force and I have tried to read main events such as the above and so on. But have not kept up to date with any of the x-men series so please forgive me if I have some how misunderstood Age Of X (which I know is not cannon...well kinda...wait is it 0_o ) Anyway so here I am reading this and finding somethings some what similar, you know like Charles being key to breaking the hold that someone has placed over the (x-world / 616) and no one is aware of this bar a few people, Magneto is a leader of all the mutants and there is a us and them story being told, even if it is at different end of the spectrum to what house of M was...

But I can't help but feel this is getting old hack, like we don't know what to do with a large ult story we are simply going to rehash and old one and see if people buy it!! Well yes I did buy it but still I feel a little screwed over and this has made me even less interested in picking up the x-men titles..I miss the days of X-Factor and that kinda cool unique feel it had. But that's just me, So I guess I just wanted to throw this out there and to see if I had missed something and that I could be enlightened to it!

The thing about Age of X that makes it a departure from the usual alternate story-lines and does make it similar to House of M (in some ways) is that there are ramifications felt in 616 because it wasn't so much an alternate reality as it was....well it was an altered 616, but 616 nonetheless. It was similar to a hallucination or dream. One of Legion's personalities created the whole thing which is why there are so many similarities to 616. Mike Carey said in a few different interviews in the issues and online that everything that happened in Age of X was something that was true to the root of the character. Nothing was an impossibility as to what would happen in 616. Which is part of what made me enjoy it so immensely. It wasn't just another throwaway story, there were ramifications that were felt in 616. Consequences that even after the Aftermath issues are still being felt and dealt with.

That's my view on it. I loved Age of X. I say this a lot, I totally have a thing for alternate realities and new takes on characters and the fact that these new versions felt like something that we could maybe one day see, or something that could have happened if a few of their life events had gone differently made this even more enjoyable to me. Add to that the fact that they're not just tossing it out the window and pretending that it never happened and I'm overall really pleased with it. I had very high expectations for Age of X going in and I have to absolutely say that I was not disappointed in the slightest. On top of that, it totally renewed my love for Rogue <3

@The Dark Huntress: But is that not what Wanda did in House of M which also had fall out into 616, with the effect it had on the mutant community, the fall out that lead into Civil War and so on and so forth, the two stories are very similar apart form end effect which effects only the X-community.

Also I don't want people to get me wrong here at all I enjoyed Age Of X and thought it was a great story I just had that feeling I had read this before. But what happens with the other characters such as Cap and Jessica Drew, we will see more in the fall out with these guys..(have not read after Age Of X yet.)

Yeah, actually, I agree with you, now that I think about it O_o

I'm pretty much strictly X-Men, so I'm not actually sure what fall out it's had in other titles or if it's even being addressed. I'd hope it is, though. Especially with Sue and Hulk...and MJ.

Trying to haul this thread back on topic; Age of X was often compared to the Age of Apocalypse, but I'd say that it was closer to the House of M. They were both set in mainstream reality that burped & went slightly wrong. Only a few characters were aware of the fact that reality was wrong & all staggering revelations were caused by a mutant with reality altering powers.

I really enjoyed Age of X. The scale of it was much smaller than that of House of M, but it was more mutant-centric than House of M. Personally I think it was one of the better X-Men stories of recent years... It wasn't perfect, and it wasn't THE best X-Men story of recent years. But I did enjoy it a lot.

I like the storytelling and concepts in AOX but I have to agree there where a few similarities to HoM.
I wrote something in Gamblers thread to that effect, but I'm too lazy to repost it, aside that it's all already covered.
