Not what I expected 0
So I like Huck, and I love this 1st issue. There is a lighthearted nature to this story (though it probably won't last) that I didn't expect in a story from Millar. The issue is just a great read, it may be about Huck but he is not telling the story which is great as it reflects the mysteriousness surrounding him, but not the normal intense/dangerous mystery but something more sweet and intriguing. A unique close to a unique Iron Fist story. 3
If you have not read Kaare Kyle Andrews beautifully drawn and intriguing "kung fu epic" you are missing out. I have always liked the Iron Fist character but always shied away from the more mystical, martial arts, K'un Lun aspects of the character as they seemed "way out there" (because laser vision and spider powers are more feasible right?) but I liked the art in the previews, went back and read them all. So Boss Level past 2, I guess this is the final arc and it is a good one. So we're down to our few remaining "contestants," all of who I have loved for years or are and have grown to love. This could have been a simple fight the big killy thing but Hopeless made this more about the characters (a few in particular). I am a huge Harbinger and Bloodshot fan and I love what Valiant has been doing. I remember the Valiant titles from before but I was so young I pretty much could only look at the pictures but I remember Hard C.O.R.P.S., Bloodshot, X-O and Solar. Seeing the Valiant characters was a blast from the past and I'm glad I can read now because these Valiant titles are great. Sure the name Flyboy kind of sucks but his life kind of sucks. Poor guy doesn't want the spotlight he just wants his friend and partner back so his life will make sense again. Straczynski is a fave of mine and here he shows us how this world has turned on Barry Chase aka Flyboy and how the "assassination" of his friend and partner Red Cowl broke him leaving guilt-ridden and sort of lost. HOLLY PLOT TWISTS BATMAN...spin-off series 0
Boy do I love this series, I really liked the Court of Owls stuff in Batman and this comic just builds more to the mythos and gives us a new member of the Bat-family (kinda). The art throughout has been stunning thanks to Guilliem March, truly beautiful work. INTRIGUE! COMEDY! ACTION! CLOWN CLEaVAGE! 1
Oh, I just love this serious. These are characters you often only see getting beat up but here you actually get to know them. I loved Gail Simone's Secret Six, this reminds me of that series, we see who these "villains" really are. OK writer Chris Yost is amazing (New X-Men, X-Force among other greatness). Yost has made this series great, it's funny, action packed, he has expanded on/created great characters, he has "planted seeds" that will lead to great stories and the art is spectacular. Who knew I would like Clint more than Hawkeye 4
So I'm familiar with Matt Fraction (most his stuff I like) and luckily I Like David Aja's art work, it sounds weird but it goes well with the material and Clint. So I haven't read this entire series/volume with Madrox leading X-Factor and turning it into a P.I. firm, so I'm not to sure why the little girl from House of M is a grown woman that's banging Madrox, using some magic gauntlet and a few issues back ushering Jamie back to life when her powers couldn't. When the Runaways are involved no wrong can be done 1
I love Avengers Academy and I love the Runaways...putting these two teams together is like peanut-butter and jelly but 37 times better. The kids and even the teachers at the are so fun to follow and the original students have had me hooked since the 1st issue. The angst, budding romances, raging hormones and turmoil stemming from their powers/abilities (as well as great writing) is what has made this series so great. The first part of this issue felt like the part of "Batman Begins" when he's at the docks terrifying/fighting Falcone's goons. Seriously, I love twist endings in movies, TV shows and...well you get it, EVERYTHING! Twist endings like this turn a 3.5-4 rating to a full 5 for 5 and cliffhangers (like the one in this issue) make me wish there were more stars to fill in. OK so I wasn't thrilled with Laura's last arc but it was still a great read. Laura's "misadventures" with the FF are a perfect place for her. This has become quite the classic and definitive Batman tale and for good reason. This brilliantly crafted story had me hooked, I'd nothing but good things so I finally checked it out and I regret not reading it earlier....and if you haven't you need to immediately. Arrogance at its most adorable 1
This issue was a total surprise to me. it was awesome, who knew Damian and Supergirl could make a hilarious team. THIS IS WHAT COMICS SHOULD BE!! From page 1 I felt I couldn't read fast enough. The anticipation and excitement to read what was coming next made my tummy hurt, I'm serious. I heart everything Hulk but lately there has been no Hulk...except the red one. I have been surprised by how much I like the incredible hulk comics without the jade giant, the original green goliath the ACTUAL incredible hulk.
