Not what I expected 0

So I like Huck, and I love this 1st issue. There is a lighthearted nature to this story (though it probably won't last) that I didn't expect in a story from Millar. The issue is just a great read, it may be about Huck but he is not telling the story which is great as it reflects the mysteriousness surrounding him, but not the normal intense/dangerous mystery but something more sweet and intriguing. I really like how the story unfolds with stories about Huck's actions, and personality. Huck is a ...

A unique close to a unique Iron Fist story. 3

If you have not read Kaare Kyle Andrews beautifully drawn and intriguing "kung fu epic" you are missing out. I have always liked the Iron Fist character but always shied away from the more mystical, martial arts, K'un Lun aspects of the character as they seemed "way out there" (because laser vision and spider powers are more feasible right?) but I liked the art in the previews, went back and read them all. Oh, great googley moogley this is a great series but a key component of what made this sto...

Who knew a series about killing characters I love could be so good 0

So Boss Level past 2, I guess this is the final arc and it is a good one. So we're down to our few remaining "contestants," all of who I have loved for years or are and have grown to love. This could have been a simple fight the big killy thing but Hopeless made this more about the characters (a few in particular). It was hard to keep reading at times, after issue 1 seeing what happened to my boy Mettle ugh, I was done and had marked Dennis Hopeless for death. Though I knew going into reading ...

Seriously, what the fudge is going on? 0

I am a huge Harbinger and Bloodshot fan and I love what Valiant has been doing. I remember the Valiant titles from before but I was so young I pretty much could only look at the pictures but I remember Hard C.O.R.P.S., Bloodshot, X-O and Solar. Seeing the Valiant characters was a blast from the past and I'm glad I can read now because these Valiant titles are great. Harbinger has been a standout in my opinion, I love the characters their personalities are so unique especially their depth and lay...

My,my my super powers and depression have made an interesting story 0

Sure the name Flyboy kind of sucks but his life kind of sucks. Poor guy doesn't want the spotlight he just wants his friend and partner back so his life will make sense again. Straczynski is a fave of mine and here he shows us how this world has turned on Barry Chase aka Flyboy and how the "assassination" of his friend and partner Red Cowl broke him leaving guilt-ridden and sort of lost. Seeing him at low points (which there quite a few) like with the jewels and at "Supercon" in the recruitment...

HOLLY PLOT TWISTS BATMAN...spin-off series 0

Boy do I love this series, I really liked the Court of Owls stuff in Batman and this comic just builds more to the mythos and gives us a new member of the Bat-family (kinda). The art throughout has been stunning thanks to Guilliem March, truly beautiful work. So far the series has just been our boy, new character Calvin Rose, systematically taking down separate key components of the Courts business fronts. Pretty ordinary stuff that has been elevated thanks to writers Scott Snyder and James Tyni...

INTRIGUE! COMEDY! ACTION! CLOWN CLEaVAGE! 1

Oh, I just love this serious. These are characters you often only see getting beat up but here you actually get to know them. I loved Gail Simone's Secret Six, this reminds me of that series, we see who these "villains" really are. Deadshot and Harley's "relationship," is great to follow, it's tumultuous, sexy, weird and funny and we really see the funny and weird side here. I love the ever changing roster, we have the core members as well as some familiar faces and not so familiar faces. We see...

A bit of Die Hard, Santa burglars & a swear jar 0

OK writer Chris Yost is amazing (New X-Men, X-Force among other greatness). Yost has made this series great, it's funny, action packed, he has expanded on/created great characters, he has "planted seeds" that will lead to great stories and the art is spectacular. Kaine's heroic journey could have been boring, bland and mediocre (like some are). Not only has his journey been unique but Yost gave us the Kaine from Grim Hunt and Spider Island. He hasn't become to dark and broody he is still the wis...

Who knew I would like Clint more than Hawkeye 4

So I'm familiar with Matt Fraction (most his stuff I like) and luckily I Like David Aja's art work, it sounds weird but it goes well with the material and Clint. Though I have not read Matt and Davids run on "The Immortal Iron Fist" but I've heard good things from about...everyone. Hawkeye is most often the one guy with a bow and arrows, it's good to see him on his own. He has always come off as a smart ass and I love seeing it here, there are so many quotes I want to put in but there are just s...

Randomly awesome but not quite random 0

So I haven't read this entire series/volume with Madrox leading X-Factor and turning it into a P.I. firm, so I'm not to sure why the little girl from House of M is a grown woman that's banging Madrox, using some magic gauntlet and a few issues back ushering Jamie back to life when her powers couldn't. This has been a very solid series in the time of read it #204 - #214 & #224 - probably not going to stop. Peter David has crafted a truly incredible series and given these characters new life, ...

When the Runaways are involved no wrong can be done 1

I love Avengers Academy and I love the Runaways...putting these two teams together is like peanut-butter and jelly but 37 times better. The kids and even the teachers at the are so fun to follow and the original students have had me hooked since the 1st issue. The angst, budding romances, raging hormones and turmoil stemming from their powers/abilities (as well as great writing) is what has made this series so great. Since their move and inclusion of more students this already fun series became ...

In space everyone can hear you mind-cheat 0

This series is a constant source of great material that always offers beautiful/detailed artwork, great characters (Broo I'm looking at you), hilarious dialogue and engaging storylines...yea not just one good story going on but three great stories. The whole Schism crap had me skeptical and wondering "why now?" it may have left some relationships in shambles and the remaining mutants divided but out of the ashes Schism has blessed us with this series. I feel like I'm reading classic X-Men with k...

Batman + Spider-Man + a shave =Scarlet Spider #1 0

The first part of this issue felt like the part of "Batman Begins" when he's at the docks terrifying/fighting Falcone's goons. I have really grown to like Kaine as a "not so bad as he was before" type of hero but even when he was a villain I liked him but there were always signs he had some good in him. Grim Hunt really set the stage for him to become a more heroic character and Spider-Island solidified it. I really liked how Yost and Stegman portray Kaine as a "dark" Peter Parker trying to not ...

4th read & I still can't believe it 0

Seriously, I love twist endings in movies, TV shows and...well you get it, EVERYTHING! Twist endings like this turn a 3.5-4 rating to a full 5 for 5 and cliffhangers (like the one in this issue) make me wish there were more stars to fill in. Cliffhangers keep us readers/fans wanting, they cause us to speculate and use our imaginations which brings us back for the next issue (DC thanks you Geoff Johns) but being good helps too (I thank you Geoff Johns). But I really love seeing Sinestro in his ne...

Make your heart smile read this issue 2

OK so I wasn't thrilled with Laura's last arc but it was still a great read. Laura's "misadventures" with the FF are a perfect place for her. This girl has been through a lot and even though the X-Men claimed to be her family it is still just a bunch of mutants living together (who obviously care about each other and welcome her but it's still not an actual family) and not a true family structure like the Reed clan. Laura got to see the real family experience, sort of, she got to see what it's l...

Beware my power beef jerky's light? 4

Holly crap people if you are not reading this series...a plague on both your houses (Shakespeare reference...I'm cultured). Justin Jordan and Tradd More have released another outstanding issue which is good because I was afraid the first issue was a fluke (I'm cynical what can I say). I love how Jordan gives Luther so much heart and character. It's eerie how well we see Luther's fear of himself and his new "talents." Even though he no longer is bully fodder, he understands being feared is not mu...

So much good in so few pages 0

A quick trip down memory lane reminded me of the first time Wade Wilson and I ever met. I've had this issue for years now and after stumbling upon this gem while cleaning brought back a lot of fond memories. The year, 1999 it was a beautiful summer afternoon and after buying my issues of Avengers, Thunderbolts and Spider-Man I happen to notice this little gem was free (it was free comic book day too) and not knowing who Deadpool was I figured why not. This issue changed my life and rocked my wor...

I couldn't think of a clever title for my review.... 0

Oh #671 you do nothing but amaze me, from the sexy cover to the surprising end. I knew Spider-Island was going to be a great arc but I kind of thought it was going to be a by the numbers predictable story but I'm very happy by the few twists (they've been there) & the unique way this story has unfolded. Dan Slott is really making this a great experience and I enjoy Humberto Ramos' art, his art style really expresses the fun frenetic style of movement Spider-Man has (a sort of controlled chao...

Did you feel that, its Aquaman being respected&it feels good 2

Thank you Geoff Johns, thank you. I've always liked Aquaman but he was never a favorite but Blackest Night/Brightest Day really got me interested in the guy. I, as well as Geoff Johns, get how Aquaman has been the brunt of a lot of jokes over the years but seeing this reflected in this issue was AWESOME and very chuckle worthy (seriously nothing better than Geoff Johns poking fun at the fact people poke fun at Aquaman). This is a great way to reintroduce Aquaman into the comic world; Aquaman is ...

Twists and turns for the whole family 0

This has become quite the classic and definitive Batman tale and for good reason. This brilliantly crafted story had me hooked, I'd nothing but good things so I finally checked it out and I regret not reading it earlier....and if you haven't you need to immediately. This is more than a Batman story, it is a crime drama and a murder mystery. What is so great about "the Long Halloween" is it focuses on the people first and then Batman (if that makes sense). Tim Sales artwork captures the dark noir...

The beginning of possibly the GREATEST Spidey story.......EVER!!! 3

Soooo, I have nothing negative to say about this issue (except it left me anxious and wanting more). I cannot truly express how much I love Stefano Casellis' artwork especially when he draws Spider-Man (look at how he draws J. Jonah Jameson freakout...AMAZING). The first portion of the book is great it's kind of like a day in the life of Perter Parker/Spider-Man. It's great to see Peter using his scientific skills as Spidey  and then selling them to Horizon Labs as Peter and using his new suit t...

Loki is such a dick... 0

So this was a pretty awesome issue and mini-series. This is like the bread in the ultimate Thor sandwich (for those how don't get the simile, it brings everything together.) I really like how this explains why a supposed Asgardian God would need a harness to instill his powers, and why there are 2 hammers. This is the reason why the Ultimate universe can be so interesting, it takes what we have come to know and read but offers a fresh and/or different version of the characters we come to know an...

I loves me a creepy school full of weird, degenerate geniuses 0

I've heard nothing but good things about this series and after I read this issue, the reviews don't do Nick Spencer's series justice. I got so into this story and read it like my life depended on it and I didn't even realize it was one of those double issue things. I'm glad i picked up a few other issues because I went from 1 to the next. Nick Spencer wrote this to get you hooked and he succeeds. There is so much going on in the school and with the new students (as well as the old) and I can't w...

Arrogance at its most adorable 1

This issue was a total surprise to me. it was awesome, who knew Damian and Supergirl could make a hilarious team. The story is nothing we haven't seen before but the best aspect of the issue is how the two interact. Damian has some of the best quips and rebukes I've ever seen. Killer Croc yells, "You're not Batman," and Damian replies "Not yet," I really liked seeing Damian's arrogance and cockyness come off as funny and not douchey. So they team up to figure out who killed a bunch of people fou...

Geoff J + Francis M= 100% pure Columbian awesome 0

Geoff Johns is possibly my favorite writer and Francis Manapul is one of my favorite artists and these two together have created one of the best comics currently out. I've been pleasantly surprised by how much I've liked Blackest Night and Brightest Day. Last times I was into Flash comics Barry was still dead and so was Kid Flash, all the Rogues were alive, Superman was going through that Red and Blue Superman phase  and Wally West  the top speedster. I really like the story being told here, it's...

Poor Pete...Poor Spidey...Poor Rhino's 0

I've read this issue a bunch, it is just so good even though the story makes Hamlet seem like Sponge Bob.  I've been reading Spider-Man for years but few issues have stuck out like this one has. I love the look and weaponry of the new Rhino and when compared to the classic suit its like tech VS brawn, laptop VS typewriters, guns VS arrows. The art I dig, but the way Aleksei is drawn and characterized while in suit is amazing and says a lot about his character and what he "becomes. "The story in ...

Who knew bonding could be so violent. 0

I actually like what Jeph Loeb and Greg Pak have been doing with our Hulks and their friends. I have actually really enjoyed reading Bruce Banner train Sk.aar and be a bad ass (well for nerd its been bad ass). I'm going to ignore the Hulked out Hero stuff but, seeing the  results of world war hulks was pretty surprising, well except that the Hulk returned (we all knew it was going to happen). I was ridiculously excited at the "original" jade giants return and when Skaar said, "Finally," I knew t...

THIS ISSUE MADE NAUSEOUS 1

THIS IS WHAT COMICS SHOULD BE!! From page 1 I felt I couldn't read fast enough. The anticipation and excitement to read what was coming next made my tummy hurt, I'm serious. The anticipation/excitement felt kind of like the shock and excitement you get at the end of a movie when everything comes together or the mystery is resolved, like "V for Vendetta," the first "Saw" or "Memento." I was unaware how emotionally invested I was but this issue really reminded me especially the stuff with Hope and...

DISSOCIATIVE IDENTITY DISORDER TO THE RESCUE!! 2

The tables begin to turn as the X-men call in a secret weapon...OK its not a secret its Legion, finally everyone on Utopia (who is capable) are tasked with fighting the Nimrods and Magneto finally mans up (at the end). I like seeing the X-Men finally begin a large scale retaliation against Bastion and his robo-minions, Scott put it best when he told the remaining mutants "fight or die." X-Force continues to try and stop the Nimrod assault which of course gets complicated by a GIANT MASTERMOLD or...

HOLY TWIST ENDING BATMAN! 0

I'm not a huge DC comic fan but Blackest Night and Batman "dying" got me interested. I'm not to up to date with what the Black Glove is and other recent goings on with Batman, but this series has been an easy pick up and its very enthralling. I love how I don't have to be a Batman expert to know what they're talking about all the time (the stuff about the earth quake when Dick was checking out the catacombs of the mansion I got but still no expert). I really like the building intensity and thema...

Claaaaaasic Deadpool...sort of 0

this issue took me back...not very far because i'm only 22. Daniel Way's writing really reminds of how Deadpool was written in his first volume (1-69), for the most part i've really enjoyed this new volume especially this last 3 issue Hit-Monkey arc (and the "want you to want me" arc). ABOUT THE ISSUE/ARC: this is one of those Deadpool stories you can just pick up and enjoy. The core of the story and why this arc really makes my heart happy is THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN!!! These two characters toget...

HOLLY CRAP IN A HAND BASKET!!! 1

I was so excited for this issue I didn't even read the synopsis slash summary thing...An Avenger Dies!!! I didn't know that so yea this was even better for me...because I'm impatient/dumb. I was actually liking Ares, he was given depth, sort of. A Warrior trying to connect with his son and give him a life (childhood) he never had. Seeing Ares in a few issues watch his son in action or speak about his son really brought him into a new light (a Secret Warriors issue Ares eye lit up when his son Ale...

I love me some Deadpool & Spider-Man 0

Okay well i love me some Deadpool and i love me some Spider-Man, and this issue surprised me. I almost didn't pick it up because i liked how the series had been going and i didn't want to waste my time with this kind of issue but i'm glad i did. This issue was hilarious as a Spider-Man issue could get...Spider-Man + Deadpool = not quite world peace but its close, Spider-Man dealing with Lady Stilt-Man hilarity, Deadpool "chatting" with good ol' Barac and Spidey vs. Deadpool in a yo mama battle i...

I heart everything Hulk but lately there has been no Hulk...except the red one. I have been surprised by how much I like the incredible hulk comics without the jade giant, the original green goliath the ACTUAL incredible hulk. Bruce Banner is actually pretty bad ass himself and even more so with his kid Skaar. 603 is surprisingly awesome, it gave me some chuckles the relationship/banter between Banner and Skaar can be pretty funny...oooh milkshakes and Conan the barbarian remarks, who knew when ...
