The love affair is over and done. I didn't think it possible, but a company has finally turned a character's personality so far south that I cannot stand to read about her anymore. With the latest issue of Captain Marvel, the only redeeming piece of that whole train-wreck of a series is that Alpha Flight finally came to their senses.
In the first Civil War, even though I didn't fully agree with Tony, his argument made sense. There was a sense of empathy towards his stance. He and Reed and others came to what they saw as a logical conclusion.
Carol in Civil War II? Ugh... its like taking the most pig-headed, stubborn jackass you have ever had a frustrating argument with and rolling them into a single representation. There are no "sides" in Civil War II, just an obvious villain. Even her interactions with Ulysses are closer in comparison to the Red Skull's interactions with Kobik. For a character who has already struggled to keep a strong reader-base (her sales numbers continue to be poor) this might be the killing stroke. This is a character they want to make a movie about? She is more of an actual villain than most of the villains in the Marvel universe! Her closest counterpart at this point is the freaking Red Skull!
Sigh... with all of the upcoming cancellations and restarts after less than 12 issues, I think its time for me to check out of the expanded Marvel Universe for a while and stick to the major heroes... or whats left of them...
