umm I used to subscribe exclusively to x-factor [up until recently, but probably will start again], just because its the most consistent and page-turner. Even though I like Rogue and Cyclops and Emma better than the X-factor folks, their writting and team dynamics just aint the same! not worth subscribing! edit: also: LAYLA MILLER and MONET! <3
I agree! Too many creators bail their titles. It's like why even bother reading! Peter David must have some tight contracts because he's been with X-Factor for a long time. Thank goodness! I remember picking up the Madrox mini series one day and it was like the 90's never happened! It was as if he picked up right from where he left off. Now the characters are growing up just like the readers. Very good stuff.
BTW, do you think Rahne is really going to kill Layla?
I like reading comics and following what's going on, but the only comic book I buy is X-Factor. In fact, I have a subscription. I was wondering, though, is there anyone else out there like me? Someone who only buys X-Factor books? If so, care to share why?
I may not like Cyclops as much as I used to (pre X-factor was his high point for me) but I don't want to see him dead. Truth be told, I'd like to see more of the Madrox/Cyclops conflict fleshed out. There's an animosity there and I'd like it to grow, or maybe even mend. As an Avenger... that makes sense. Wolverine was an Avenger, Prof. X is always in their books too. Cyclops as an Avenger, I think, is a serious downgrade. If they give him his own book, I may consider reading it. But right now, the only book I really buy is X-Factor.
Anyone read the new X-Factor? I bet Guido and Madrox listen to stuff like this. It reminds me of the pre X-Factor 200 comics. Not sure why. Must be the hip westcoast indie pop sound.
I read a couple of old issues illustrated by whilce portacio. I think it was number 41 where he was a substitute teacher taking down drug dealers working for the kingpin. It was pretty cool. Anyway, it got me thinking. The narration is always in first person. Do you think the punisher's ever said anything to reveal how he feels about government and taxes? I think he may be a Libertarian, but what do you think?
Inferno wrapped up a lot of lose ends in the 80's when it was released. There were some continuity problems branching from the creation of X-Factor. That was the only lasting impact of the story arc-- well that and the gradual collapse of the New Mutants title. However, seeing as they killed off Jean Grey yet again, it seems like none of it really matters anymore.
HOWEVER, there were a lot of interesting characters and plots that lead up to Inferno. Claremont and Silvistri made a really good creative team. Their stories are classic, and so are their villains. But if you didn't read any of the issues building up to Inferno, the trade paperback really doesn't mean too much. Those issues depicting the battles between X-Men and the Marauders and Mr. Sinister were some of my favorites. I think the most important part of the pre Inferno stuff is Cyclops trying to rationalize how he could abandon his wife and child. Very soap opera-ish drama.
@King Quisling: QFT (I just learned what that meant a few days ago) Bucky was never really that big a deal. He had it coming, and I'm pretty sure he's died before, right? He's like the Jean Grey of the Avengers.
