One thing I don't understand about Spider Island is Spider Girl getting spider powers. Why does she get to keep hers without having to worry about turning into a giant spider? Did they explain that and I missed it somewhere? Her powers were different before too so I don't think it's because she had them before.

I never saw an explanation on how she kept her powers, but then again they never explained how she lost them so why start making sense now.

oddly enough i tried to ignore it and keep going too. I read through the gauntlet and grim hunt when i first started reading comics and i loved that stuff, but then one moment in time happened which was basically a punch to the groin for me. It wasnt enough that quesada had his way with the character, he had to keep rubbing it in my face about it. Thats when i realized that my 3.99 was better spent elsewhere.

Punch to the groin is about right. I picked up OMIT in the deluded hope that they'd seen the error of their ways with OMD and were setting things right, so I feel your pain.

unless they reverse one more day my spidey ban will remain intact sadly.............

I'm with you. I gave Spider-Island a shot but until OMD is resolved it's no more Amazing Spider-Man for me

What was an 8 issue series was announced to be an ongoing series in Toronto a few weeks ago. Now it's been cancelled (apparently Greg Pak confirmed on Twitter). What the hell is going on there at Marvel? Did they announce the ongoing series just because they were in Canada and wanted to make some kind of splash or is this cancellation going to be followed up by a new #1 the next month like they did with Uncanny X-Men?

I can't say if she'd lost them before or during the Grim Hunt. Nothing was said that I can remember. She wasn't shown sticking to walls, but she still had the tattoo on her upper arm during the Grim Hunt which makes me think she still had them at that time. She definitely lost them by the time of the Young Allies, so sometime between Grim Hunt and Young Allies, but it never really was explained.

I agree, Mattie's last costume is much better than the one Anya wears now. Also it would have been better from an emotional point of view. Julia giving her costume to Anya was nice, but Anya taking on the costume of a fallen hero would have been very noble.

Actually that's a really good idea. I never liked the costume she got from Julia Carpenter, too boring, and derivative of Venom. The only hitch is that Mattie Franklin didn't have just one costume. She seemed to change her look every issue during her series, so many to choose from.

If Brand New Day is an example of a Marvel reboot then they should avoid it like the plague.

BND started in early 2008 and by December they’d lost nearly half their readership. BND was supposed to be this fresh new start, a jumping on point for all these “new readers.” But the number I found was a drop of 46%, and it’s been creeping down ever since. And this is the Amazing Spider-Man, THE flagship title for Marvel, if any book could withstand a bad economy or a slowing industry it’s ASM. Other important Marvel titles like Hulk and Fantastic Four saw increases in 2008.

It just shows that reboots, revamps, events or a new number one doesn’t make a difference in the long run. Fans support good storytelling. Period!
