Military personnel stood outside with heavy artillery drawn. Alongside them were members of local law enforcement. Rain beat down on them in the darkness of night. A few street lights illuminated the immediate area in addition to police strobe lights. A few police officers felt their hands shaking uncontrollably. It was the fear getting to them. The man they’d come to kill could smell it stimulating his nostrils. A hunter loved nothing more than the fear his presence caused a victim. His newest victims were both fearful and courageous at the same time. They hid behind their weapons and vehicles as if it meant anything to him. The reason it rained on this night was because the angles were heartbroken to have seen one of their own fall; the evil angel, Death.
The armed forces outside were unwavering outside that church. Some of them prayed under their breaths, others held their little gold crucifixes. The black stone holding the church together knew what would come. It had already said its goodbyes. Stained glass windows took the pummeling of pounding rain. On most nights television crews would be out trying to capture video footage of what would unfold; but not on this night. Tonight they were all home with their families, praying for a way out of the hole they dug for themselves. Husbands held wives. Families sat huddled up together, bracing themselves for the worst possible outcome. They knew everything would come to an end. A falling meteor wouldn’t bring forth such an international response. A falling meteor could be defeated, it could be destroyed. The enemy ending the world on this night could not be killed, could not be destroyed. This enemy was the embodiment of chaos, the embodiment of war.
He sat inside the church on a golden throne with red silk cushions. Behind was the body of beloved Lady Death. She had taken unfathomable amounts of punishment before yet a single bullet through the chest was what took her from him. He’d cleaned her body of blood and dirt. She wore her most beautiful dress in death. It was black and white with skulls on it; form fitting and made entirely of a material imitating silk but as tough as raw leather. She wore silver high heel shoes and the necklace belonging to her lover’s mother. Her red lipstick was a main stay in her look. On her chest Kain placed a bouquet of white gardenia flowers: they were her favorites, in addition to her beloved Dragon’s Tail.
Kain was garbed all in black. Black dress pants, black shoes and a black, pinstripe long sleeve dress shirt made his attire. The back of Kain’s shirt had two white angel wings. A silver chain was clamped onto his pants leading to his pocket. A black ring with white dragon writing adorned his left ring finger. Kain’s white hair and neatly fell on his shoulders down his back while his white glowing eyes could be seen through the blackness of his glasses; glasses which he discarded upon standing up. Click clack, click clack, click clack. The only noise heard from within the church in addition to rainfall.
Slowly, the large wooden door creaked open. Complete darkness was all the outside defensive forces could see until he walked out of his domain. The military chief grabbed the megaphone from one of his subordinates and spoke calmly into it. While there was no evident aggression in his voice, there was a much more powerful emotion; the emotion capable of triggering Kain’s madness, fear. His voice trembled as he spoke to Kain who stood absolutely still after closing the church’s wooden door.
“Hold your position Kain. Surrender and you will survive. You will undergo a court hearing where you may plead your case to a federal judge. You have been black-listed and marked as a weapon of mass destruction.”
Kain reached his back pocket and pulled out a small six inch knife. Along the handle were words written in vampire that read “Gods fall when pierced by this blade”. As soon as Kain pulled his weapon out, the war began. Every available officer and soldier squeezed the triggers on their weapons to slay their enemy. Kain moved too fast for any of his attackers to clearly see what he was doing. He seemed to be dancing with the bullets, using his knife to make the ricochet back to where they came. The vampire jumped through minor openings between the bullets, displaying incredible agility. Flaming metal blew holes clean through his clothing whenever it came close but he felt absolute apathy about the damage his clothing received. His dance of bullet dodging continued for minutes as bullets missed him and became intimately familiar with their users. Blood sprayed and concrete tore off in the storm of bullets.
To Kain’s surprise, the bullets stopped altogether. Every member of the resistance stood still as if they were watching something. The pungent aroma of their fear still permeated the area but a sliver of hope existed in their eyes. That explained the barely audible low frequency humming Kain heard approaching his location. Now that humming was quickly approaching his shoulder, and instinctually the vampire contorted his body and stretched out his arm grabbing an unseen foe. Fluidly, Kain crushed his enemy’s skull by slamming it through the wall of the church and deactivated the stealth program on the man’s armor.
The man was a soldier wearing the most technologically advanced armor Kain had ever seen. It had onboard computers, an oxygen filter and most evidently the ability to render its owner completely invisible. Another fact Kain noticed was what this dead man held in his hand; a laser weapon that worked like a sword.
Just as quickly as the soldier fell, Kain heard another humming sound, this time focused on his kidney. Without a second thought Kain grabbed the laser sword and sliced off his invisible enemy’s arm before slamming his hand clear through the fool’s chest mercilessly. Kain still heard a low humming behind this fallen man and fired a beam of pure darkness from the palm of his hand. Through the mist of blood, bone and armor Kain’s dark beam incinerated the third soldier’s head. War carelessly swung his arm, lobbing the soldier still attached to his arm at the rest of those daring to combat Kain.
Rain continued to pour down on the heartbroken vampire lord. Crumpled bodies lay strewn about both at Kain’s feet and those of his enemies. A feeling of dread washed over all present at the scene of the massacre. A crimson sea flowed around Kain’s feet and down the church stairs. Slowly the vampire raised his head against the powerful pounding rain running down his pale face. A bolt of lightning flashed across the sky but was immediately split apart and redirected at the countless men and women taking the front lines against Kain. His attack did not strike them, in fact it only melted their firearms; rendering them useless.
Before Kain began a lethal charge at his enemies an enemy chopper came at him with the shooter mounted high in the side firing a fully automatic machine gun at Kain. It was exactly how his beloved Lyn had fallen. A chopper somehow managed to kill her with a well placed magic bullet. The flashbacks of seeing her fall and die flashed through Kain’s mind as the gun cycled through ammunition and shot at Kain. Dozens of long black tendrils exploded from Kain’s hands and wrapped themselves around the helicopter like an octopus wraps itself around a fish. Veins popped from Kain’s forehead, tears of blood rolled down his cheeks and his nostrils flared. Spikes grew from his tendrils penetrating the shell of the chopper like a can opener. A thick barrier of air surrounded Kain to keep the bullets away from his person. As blood oozed down his tendrils, War ripped the chopper to shreds and slammed it down on the forces below.
A slew of soldiers came at Kain wielding swords, knives, axes, batons, and a myriad of other weapons to battle him. They knew they were going to die eventually, they knew if they didn’t stop him now their families wouldn’t live much longer. This was a fight for survival. Kain knew this; he wanted them to know his pain. He wanted them to know what it was like to lose all meaning of life, what it meant to have nothing. Hundreds of men and women ran to their deaths like cattle to a slaughter.
The vampire called upon his two most powerful weapons, the blades of darkness and light. Very few saw Kain draw his blades and live to tell about it. Tonight was no different. As they came he moved to reflect the situation. Jumping into the crowd, War swung one blade to cut down some of the forces attacking him. Their blood sprayed into the air and mixed into the raindrops. His second sword came out to behead approaching enemies from the right side. He twisted his body and launched himself through the crowd like a blood rocket. Now on the other side and a sufficient enough distance from Lyn’s body, Kain could make them pay.
Using his immensely powerful leg muscles, Kain propelled himself into the air and slammed down onto the ground with enough force to send his enemies into the air. The angered vampire slammed the sword of darkness into the ground and what emerged was beastly; hundreds of razor sharp tentacles shot out of the ground, grabbing Kain’s enemies and slicing them to ribbons. The sound of flesh and bone being ripped to shreds was only deafened by agonized screaming, calls for God and pleas for forgiveness. The rain storm was now a blood storm. Innards, organs, intestines and bodies had replaced the sidewalks and pavement. Kain could still sense snipers watching from a distance but he knew they wouldn’t shoot him; especially not after what they just saw.
War stood at the heart of his madness, holding exactly what he had; nothing. All his power, all his past and all the years he’d spent wandering this planet was for naught. Lyn was dead and now he was left with nothing. This world had taken everything from him ever since his childhood. First his mother, than his friends, then Tiferia, and Charlie now finally Lyn. There was no reason for him to show mercy now. It was time he brought about the end for the last time. There would be no Gods to undo his damage, no heavens or afterlife in which the souls of the dead would exist. There would be nothing. Kain would wage a one man war against existence itself. The destroyer of all things would end it all. He would however, grant the universe one last gift: The chance to say “goodbye”.
As the darkness and light oozed from his body, billions upon billions of Kains appeared throughout the universe making themselves known to all who exist. Humans, demons, angels, elves, gods and vampires all saw some version of Kain standing before them. He was on every television, in every pond and every mirror. He had the attention of existence itself. The floor was his.
“Not all of you know who I am. My name, is Kain and I have been called Eternal Chaos, the Harbinger of Death, The Horseman of War, the Death Dealer, the Reaper, and a myriad of other names. I bring you this final message. My one love has been taken from me. She was slain by a single bullet. My beloved did not deserve the death she was given. I have slaughtered more men, women and children then I care to count. I have sinned more, then I care to count. However I come to you with this final message before everything ends: Hold your loved ones close, tell them you love them. Drop whatever it is you’re doing and tell your family how important to you they are. Kiss your children, tell your parents you appreciate what they’ve done and make love with your significant others while you can. Treat everyday like it is your last. Do this, because I want all of you to know that I am coming for you. You cannot run. You cannot hide. You cannot, you WILL NOT SURVIVE. Heroes, villains, neutrals, anti-heroes, I’m coming. I will destroy every last one of you. I will destroy men, I will destroy women, and I will destroy children. The Gods will fall before me as will any and all armies. As I said, cherish what time you have left for I will be coming to end your lives and that is a promise. Don’t pray to God either, I don’t show mercy.”
Kain ended his transmission to the world and walked back into the church where Lyn’s beautiful body lay on the pedestal. He held her hand and kissed her forehead gently. His hair grew long and white, the vampire’s wings were fully extended and his poisoned tails wriggled behind him. The two legendary blades he fought with stood next to him and his power was completely released and behind him the realms of darkness and light opened up with their armies prepared to fight for their master. This was the end of days and Kain was at the center.
