(Just trying to get the hang of writing this character)
Chapter 1: The test
The robot stood rigidly still, as though waiting for orders. High above the deactivated machine, a group of scientists, soldiers, and guys in suits milled around. Standing at the front of the observation bay, one man, in full uniform, exuded an aura of calm power. His perfectly maintained dark hair, a flat buzz cut was maybe a shade darker than his concentrated eyes. Medals adorned his chest like ornaments. He looked at the shiny silver automaton standing far below him. "Start it up." He said in a smooth, oily voice. A technician stared at the head scientist for a moment, before the general turned and bellowed. "Start it up now!" The technician gulped, then furiously pounded at the keyboard. After he had finished the beginning of the cycle, his index finger hung over the 'enter' key.
"Engaging." He said, and jabbed it. Data, as well as the boot up function, began streaming to the robot wirelessly. The general scratched his forehead with the metal claw that had replaced his right hand as he waited. A group of technicians started to monitor the robot as it started up. Voices ran over each other.
"Primary boot up complete."
"Running preliminary checks."
"Weapons systems primed."
The general smiled as the eyes of the robot, previously a black, light up pale blue. "We've done it." He said simply. The robot didn't move from it's position. Pressing the intercom, the general spoke in a loud, clear voice. "What is your designation?" The robot was confused. It did not understand the question. "What do I call you if I want your attention? I am not simply calling you 'robot'." The automaton processed the question, running its prime directive, and abilities against it.
"You may call me..." It paused for a moment, as one of technicians announced it was processing some major 'brain' activity. "Encrypt." The general nodded, as if satisfied.
"OK, Encrypt. What is your objective, soldier?" He asked, adding the last bit to see the reaction of the newly activated automaton.
"To protect the United States of America, from threats superhuman, sir!" The robot said, snapping to attention.
"Very good, man." The general turned, took his finger off the intercom, and looked at the technicians. "Start the tests." One of them nodded, as the general turned to the robot again. "Now, son, we want to help you get a grip on your abilities, so follow your orders." The robot nodded and announced the obligatory response. With a press of the button, a door rolled up and a tank crept out. "Fire." The general said, and a soldier pressed a button on his console. A rocket fired out of the cannon and hit the robot in the middle of the star that decorated its chest, releasing a lot of light, and smoke. When it cleared, the robot still stood there, no evidence it had been hit. "OK, Encrypt. Attack." The robot stretched an arm out, not even blackened by the rocket strike. A small panel slid open and a gun popped up. A rocket fired out, flew forward and hit the tank with a PLINK! The general looked at his lackeys, anger rising on his face, "Gentlemen. Rockets are meant to explode!" Even as he started his rant, the mini rocket lodged in the tank blew up.
"Two kiloton yield. Energy damper and added explosive material appear to make the best of a sub-critical mass." The general turned to the technicians. "It is part of my enhanced vision, sir. I can see different types of energy. Also, I know the limits of every one of my abilities." The general nodded. Now it was time to get the soldier ready. A large machine descended from the roof, and began to spray the robot red, white and blue. When it was done, a clear variation of the American flag decorated Encrypt's body.
The general watched the technicians. "We can monitor our soldier from here. The kill switch..." He lifted a small device, a fat red button sitting in the middle of it. "Is my responsibility. My superiors will be pleased Project Metal Justice is a success. Dismissed!" The soldiers filed out, and the general turned to the newly painted robot soldier. "Go get 'em, son." He pointed theatrically. "Open the door." A door slid open and bright sunlight shone into the room. "Soldier, begin your mission now!" The robot saluted and exited the room, standing in the sunlight for a moment, before the rockets in his feet fired, and he flew into the air.
