Enter Peter Parker. A nerdy teen (though he's sometimes portrayed almost as a pre-teen or a dude in his early 20's) who doesn't get any respect, almost NEVER gets anything right (or even thanked for saving someone), who whines ALL FRIGGIN' DAY about everything that happens to him, whose friends and/or allies always end up going nuts and trying to kill him, and whose loved ones always pay the price for him being a "hero" (and I use the term loosely).
He's socially inept, he can't deal with women and he's given up his hero gig half a dozen times!!!
He is the epitome of what a loser is, the embodiment of nerdiness, the poster child for the word geek!!!
Yet so many comics fans LOVE him!!!
I don't mean to put Spidey down, but i don't think anyone here can argue with my (perhaps harsh) description of him here.
I just want to know why despite all of this, so many people find him (and everything he is) "relatable"?!?! can anyone try to explain?
I agree with Babs, just because it's a "classic" doesn't mean it's good. Iron Man fan's may love it, but to anyone else it's definitely better left 6 feet under, IMO.
So, as a long time DC fan, I've always antagonized Marvel fans because they think "their" publisher is better than DC... I completely disagree!!!
HOWEVER, the numbrers speak for themselves. Marvel holding a 42% of the market share makes it pretty clear that MOST readers like Marvel better than DC.
Originally I was going to ask why, but i think the better question is: What do you guys think DC would need to do to beat (or at least match) Marvel in popularity?
Or even better: What would it take for YOU to like DC better?
hmm.. I thought one of the shadows was going to be Batwoman... I'm not sure how a feel about H&D joining. They don't really fit in, I mean, Hawk's a dude!
IMO the same thing The Iron Patriot and Venom should do.... Keep going as another team like the Avengers only more bad ass!!! But yeah, they should reform!!!
