@hypester: And such a shame that is happens. Superman is one of the few characters that after reading some his better comics or watching one of the animated adaptations, he actually brightens my day. It takes a truly special character to do that and it's a little depressing that many people want him to be this boring, invincible shell of himself.

Death Battle has really screwed up a lot things. After re-watching their video (I really only paid attention partly the first time, because we had NO IDEA how powerful Goku's new transformations were. I doubted any win or loss would be as accurate as possible.), I find myself scratching my head, again. Nothing Goku does will ever let him match or surpass Supes...?

But a lot this, I'm finding out, is because a lot of people don't know how to properly debate VS Battles. Today, I had a very heated 'debate' with a guy who was using DB's logic and quote "Superman is as strong as he needs to be." I argued that Word of God can only cover what the writer himself writes and that Supes has had many different writers. In addition, it doesn't mean anything if everything else in the actual material points to it being not true. I also argued that not only were many of Supes feats taken out of context but they were Supermen of different universes! Different histories, different challenges, different limits. All-Star Superman, Kingdom Come Superman and Superboy-Prime are all examples of Supermen far above the normal one seen in the mainstream DC comics. As such, I pointed out that each version of Superman is a character in their own rights and have to be treated as such. If you want to put Supes against someone, you've got to pick a version for the sake of consistency.

But the guy would have none of it and called be biased for Goku. He seemed to enamored with the idea of Supes being utterly invincible that he didn't want to accept any other facts. Like if Supes wasn't invinicible he wasn't Superman. I got a little fed up and asked if he thought Superman could beat Eternity (Marvel) in a straight fight. Five guesses what he said...

I think people have forgotten that Superman isn't just about the powers, he's about doing the right thing and being a good person. I always loved how he was so powerful but never looked his nose down on others and instead focused on helping others realize what they could do to become better people. It seems like a lot of people have forgotten about him...

@the-seeffiss17: People are really taking that crap seriously?! I mean, don't get me wrong, cool fight and all but there were so many things wrong with how they portrayed Supes and Goku.

@minaruto: It's not so much that I want him to lose as much I don't like hearing he wins only because "He has no limits.". I'm more curious as to where exactly this notion is coming from than anything else. Because that's what my debates with him involved turn into. It just seems like every discussion becomes arguing about a No Limits Fallacy.

If I wanted Supes to blatantly lose, there's a laundry list of characters I KNOW can beat him.

I'm a long time Superman fan and I've come to a recent dilemma: For some reason a lot of people seem to think Superman is the most powerful character to ever exist all of a sudden.

Is it because the WoG said that "Superman is as strong as he needs to be."?

I'm really asking because whenever I have a discussion with other people nowadays about Superman vs another character they just say that Superman would win, regardless of any logical argument I or another bring up or who he's matched against.

I apologize if I sound like I'm whining. I'm just kind of frustrated.
