R.I.P. Ronnie James Dio

Yeah, so Duncan Idunno is morose over Dio going to his reward. I wasn't holding out for an Elf /Rainbow or Black Sabbath mach 2 reunion or anything, it's
just that today's music mostly sucks so HARD that I hate to see us lose any of the "greats". And yes - Dio was great.
His abilities as a multi-instrumentalist were largely unnoticed as his fame came from being such a dynamic frontman. I saw him live twice, mid to late 80's
with the band Dio. His stature certainly belied his vocal ability - during the first show I saw (with Motley Crue opening), his microphone cut out briefly. It was a
12,000 seat arena, but you could still basically hear every word - MACHO!
I'm not a black t-shirt regular, I prefer progressive music, and I consider Black Sabbath to be an originator of the heavy-prog genre. After releasing 'Never Say
Die' and 'Technical Ecstasy', I was ready to turn my back on Sabbath. However, after (thankfully) shat-canning Ozzy (blecccchh!), Ronnie joined the group to make
two of the finest albums ever. If you've never heard 'Heaven and Hell' or 'Mob Rules' shame on you - iTune 'em or whatever it is kids do nowadays to listen to music.
I still have both cassettes - and the CDs too for when the tapes wear out.
In an age when the castrato voice is everywhere, the world may think it doesn't need a Dio. Of course if it meant his having to remain a victim of stomach cancer,
I say he's better off - just missed.
