I totally agree and Spidey is my favourite hero. I also hate how there are so many X titles and Avengers titles that every new character is affiliated with one or the other, Id like to see something that would showcase new heroes so they could maybe gain popularity and get their own titles and not be thrown into an Secret/New/Dark-Avengers or Astonishing/Uncanny/New-X-Men/Factor/Force/Mutants team(sorry I forgot X-treme X-Men coming summer 2012, should be real original!).the best thing that could come out of this AvX thing is that lots of X-Men die and the Avengers and X-Men titles get thinned out. Not to mention the rest of the ongoing titles are Spiderman knockoffs.
Instead of attempting to sell books by heavily relying on crossovers and PC publicity stunts, maybe Marvel could start trying to create new original characters(Sorry Marvel Juggernaut Colossus and Flash Thompson as Venom are not new original characters). These new characters can be white, they can be black, they can be hispanic or asian and they can be gay, bi or straight and they can be Christian, Jewish, Hindu, Muslim and Athiest, although I really dont feel like any real religions make any sense in comics when you have Galactus eating planets. Most of the biggest superheroes are white because they were created a half century ago and you can't force characters to become a different race because people have become attached to their favourite heroes(My guess, Miles Morales ends up in the 616 and Peter quits or is killed off in this "big event" in ASM #700, and then Will Smiths son can play him in ASM 2). Make new characters that make their first appearance in the 2010's that are white, black and hispanic etc. and are not mutants or Avengers and put your best writers on them and it will work, but oh wait they would need some creativity though, darn. This would not be "politically correct" because modern day NA has different races so having heroes of a different races would be normal, although suddenly making a classic character a minority might sell more and Im willing to bet they would give up on their artistic dignity for a couple extra zero's.
All I'm trying to say is that I think Marvel needs more creativity and less publicity stunts and "big summer event" AvX type things that make me feel like Im reading some sort of Wrestmania between Marvel characters( Would you like to see an Avenger John Cena or a Mutant one?). Like the OP said "It is a slap in the face to die hard comic fans to constantly be chosen behind new fans. All stories and our favorite characters today are written for new fans. Call me crazy, but this is not right. I spend my hard earned money on an expensive habit and i don't appreciate reading the same thing over and over. The worst part is, i am not the only one who thinks or who has said this, and I have to believe that editors are aware of how we feel" this is what is happening. The Avengers and Spider-man are everywhere and will be everywhere while these movies and their sequels continue to come out.
I probably sound like a jack*** here but thats how I feel.
