I think comics are simply meant to be entertaining. Sometimes that can mean just a fun story and other times something deeper. That can mean including elements of both fantasy and realism. Back in the golden age of comics there was more fantasy themes than anything else. It is still an important aspect of comics today, but times have changed and I think there is a desire for relevance.
Concerning mass killings or civilian casualties in comics: I don't think it's necessary for every story, but there are instances where it makes sense and to leave it out would be unrealistic. When super-powered behemoths are battling it out in the middle of a city there are going to be some casualties. When a villain succeeds in his plans, there could likely be some deaths involved.
Just because some writers "overkill" doesn't mean there isn't a time and place for mass deaths in comics. How else are you going to have a zombie apocalypse?

BIG PICTURE that looks awesome and if you got a BIG NAME in acting to go with it well boy you just got about half of the money u put in the movie in tickets. there is just curiousity or comic fans.
The Sin City film was mind-blowing. I thought it did well commercially too. Who is going to lose all his money? I don't understand.

I really like some of these images. Thanks for posting them. Muller's work is amazing. They do say a picture is worth a thousand words.

As much as I'm annoyed by DC's "Crisis" events and restructuring over the years, I have to say this commercial does make the new 52 look exciting and would probably cause some people to go pick up a copy of their favorite character's title... maybe even me. I'm up for a new beginning because if you haven't been following a title it can be hard sometimes to get into the storyline and know what the hell is going on.
As long as DC doesn't change a given title's numbering to 1 and then months later pretend that never happened and go back to regular numbering...only to start it at #1 again when a movie comes out. I remember when the numbers meant something, and if you saw a #1 it was a new series or volume and the old one was finished.

You did fail to mention the scene where Spiderman 3 temporarily becomes a musical, complete with Peter dancing around like some lunatic. I really enjoyed Spiderman 1 and 2 when they came out. Special effects have come a long way since then so I don't blame them for not measuring up to today's standards. I'm not saying those movies were perfect, as I agree with most of the points made in this article, but they had no faults big enough to ruin the movie experience. S3 on the other hand, had so many problems I could barely sit through it.

Sounds interesting. I've steered clear of the Ultimate universe ever since Ultimatum, but with new writers involved and a new start this might be worth a look.

New villains means the old ones don't have to break out of Arkham, or die and come back again and again. I'm glad Snyder brought in James Junior. I say let the Joker have a vacation.

Some great finds G-man. Jill Thompson's art blew me away. Maybe she could draw one of those titles with young superheroes, teen titans or something. Not every hero needs to run around in spandex or some fancy super suit. I'm not complaining, it's just fun to re-imagine a character once in a while.. it's not like the changes have to carry over into other books. Sometimes self-contained titles are the best anyway.
Noto's sketches sure do have that retro feel and are well planned quality work. Is this a foreshadowing of Phil possibly drawing some stories set in a bygone era?
